Ad-ViceWell, even though some schools are begin-

ning, the summer activities are still goingstrong at the club. The participation atSchool House Bay was just short of twentyboats with approximately 60 people enjoy-ing that gorgeous summer day. Roger Ingleand I cooked burgers and brats and, ofcourse, we had tons of food that everyonebrought to share. It was truly a fun, fun day.

Cruise-outs for September are Toledo YachtClub and Cedar Point. Check this Jib Sheet formore information and the sign up sheets areon the board in the club for both.

I do want to thank all the members whosupported the fundraisers and parties thisyear. It’s nice to have a great party and raisemoney for the club at the same time.

I also want to thank all the members whoarranged the cruise-outs. Even when thesame person does the planning, it stillrequires a lot of time.

Finally, consider attending the PlanningMeeting on Friday night, October 3rd at1900 hours. This is your club so come andshare some fresh ideas. It’s always nice foryou to know what’s happening first-hand.

Hope to see you at the club at one of ourfall activities.

Rear View ForwardThe I-LYA Regattas consist of a Junior Sail, Powerboat, and

Senior Sailboat and are the largest events that PIBYC hoststhroughout the year. My wife, Vivien, and I were very fortunatethrough the hospitality provided by Steve and Polly Nagy topersonally attend and participate in all of the activities. Weboth had heard from others how time consuming and involvedthese events could be and, more importantly, how much isexpected of the host club, PIBYC and its members in order tomake it all come together. On any given day we could countover 30 PIBYC members giving of themselves and their time, day after day, some up to 10 hours a day working side by sidewith the I-LYA staff and committees. The events were well orga-nized, on time, and we did not hear a single complaint, onlypositive praise about the PIBYC members and their cooperation.

I would personally like to thank all of our members whocontributed to making the regattas successful as this reflectswell on our club. Steve and Polly Nagy put together a staff ofvolunteer bar tenders who covered our bar sales for over 210hours and brought in over $8,000 in sales. Marilyn Paselskyand Bob Bahney III put together a staff, coordinated by VivienDennerll, for I-LYA T-shirt sales which sold over $12,000. Hotdog sales were coordinated by Marylou Ramsbottom who puttogether a volunteer staff providing hot dogs, chips, drinks, and fruit to the participants of Powerboat and Sail Regattas.Pati and Raymond Arth ran the hot dog sales during Juniorswhen no other food was available to them. Laureen Mooneyand her staff of volunteers could be found in the early morn-ing hours providing breakfast and lunch to the juniors as wellas other meals throughout the regatta, along with ourCommodore Jennifer Kahler who would appear early to washpots and pans and come back later in the afternoon to servelemonade and cold water to the Junior racers. Kris and ReniMiller and the crew of volunteers provided an excellent steakroast. Rose Kahler could be found assisting Woody and pro-vided Vivien with extra geraniums to plant so that ourgrounds could look a little better. Our VC John Spencer andSharon filled in wherever needed. Other members of our clubprovided support and safety and coordinated the race courseswith I-LYA. It should be noted that some of these volunteershave been participating for over 30 years!

I can assure you we can all be very pleased with our managerRudy Cooks and his staff. His dealings with the I-LYA were pos-itive and professional and he provided any and all services nec-essary in a timely fashion and represented our club very wellduring all the events.

I would also like to thank the past commodores, past presi-dents and long time members for the time they took to sit downwith Rudy and myself to inform us of what would be expectedof PIBYC and its members. I greatly appreciated the time Ed andAbigail Skoch spent with Rudy and myself before the regattas sothat we were aware of what would be expected and needed. Ienjoyed working with I-LYA Commodore Jack Attkisson and hisflag officers. Jack, past commodores and PIBYC members coop-erated and assisted in every way possible.

A special note to my wife Vivien, “I appreciate your supportand time as you made it much more enjoyable workingtogether.”

Commodore’s BriefingThe weather is cooling, but boating and

club activities are still going strong. ChefWoody continues to provide delicious Fridaynight dinners and the Change of WatchBanquet is just around the corner. In thepast, the “Eye” closed “the Season” the dayafter Change of Watch but this year, we havedecided to keep the “Eye” open until the endof October.

For the first time, PIBYC will host aHalloween party that will be fun for theentire family. Autumn is my favorite time ofyear on the island and I hope you all havethe opportunity to come and enjoy the beau-ty, fun and splendor of the season.

AuxiliaryIt is hard to believe that the summer has wound

down. The Ladies Auxiliary luncheons are over.Thank you to all who volunteered their time andefforts to make these luncheons so successful. Again, thank you to Alice Boag, Ginny Trethewey andSusan Fegen, your luncheons were great. Thank youto the Upperdeck for hosting our “On the Town”luncheon. The Silver Sails out-did themselves. “Foodfrom the Decades” was enjoyed by all, as was as allthe trivia that we had forgotten from those decadesgone by. Woody prepared the food for the last twoluncheons held at the club and the food was superb.A special salute to Woody. Thank you for all you do!

Susie Chrysler featured clothes from the Misty Bayat the July 29th luncheon. Her clothes were thecutest, as were her models. Kim Pugh from thePuddle Duck did a fashion show at the final lunch-eon hosted by Sally Duffy on August 12th. Themodel and the clothes were terrific.

A special thank you to Laureen Mooney and hermany volunteers for the hours they spent preparingfood for the junior regatta.

I would like to wish the best of luck to next yearofficers, Vivien Dennerll, president, Laura BookerCoviello, vice-president and Candy Baker, treasurer. This is a wonderful slate of officers and I am surethat next year’s luncheons will be even bigger andbetter.

As my term concludes for 2008, I would like tothank everyone for your support and concern for theLadies Auxiliary and the Put-in-Bay Yacht Club.

Club Manager NotesMy first regatta as Club Manager is now all but a memo-

ry. Many members gave me fair warning and most of yourinput proved beneficial and true. It was a busy three weeks, but three weeks I must say I truly enjoyed. I attribute thisto the incredible volunteerism by Put-in-Bay Yacht Clubmembers, I-LYA volunteers, and the Put-in-Bay Yacht Clubstaff. Our employees found it extremely easy to work along-side so many willing volunteers. Whether it was a steakroast, fish fry, awards ceremony or past commodore’s recep-tion...people were positive, helpful, and caring. I look for-ward to our club hosting many regattas to come.
