3, 2, 1 – Film ab! Vollgepackt mit Filmen, Workshops und Events findet KUKI, das Internationale Kinder- und Jugendkurzfilmfestival Berlin, bereits zum sechsten Mal statt. Am Sonntag den 10.11.2013 geht es um 14 Uhr mit einer großen Eröffnungsparty im Filmtheater am Friedrichshain, unserem treuen Partner und Festi-valkino, endlich los.

Neben den 5 Wettbewerbsprogrammen für Kinder und Jugendliche werden stolze 7 Spezialprogramme gezeigt, die sich auf bestimmte Themen oder Genres stürzen. Unter anderem gibt es hier Dokumentarfilme, Umweltfilme und eine Retrospektive des belgischen Produktionsworkshop Camera-etc.

Gekürt werden aus den Kinder- und Jugendwettbewer-ben je ein erster und ein zweiter Platz, die von unseren Kinder- und Jugenjurys gewählt werden und bei der Preisverleihung von interfilm, dem 29. Internationalen Kurzfilmfestival Berlin am 17.11.2013 im Kino Babylon mit einem Preis ausgezeichnet werden.

Am letzten Festivalsonntag sind alle Kinder und Fa-milien herzlich zur zapf-Familienvorstellung eingela-den. In einem bunten Film-Mix ab 6 Jahren mit tollen Rahmenprogramm, präsentieren wir Festivalhighlights und Filme, die während des Animationsworkshops in unserem [zapf]TrickTruck produziert wurden. zapf Um-züge spendiert allen Kinder und Erwachsenen diesen Besuch: Der Eintritt ist frei.

3, 2, 1 – Film on! Bursting with films, workshops and events KUKI, the International Short Film Festival for Children and Youth Berlin will be held for the sixth time. Our wonderful and lively Festival Opening matinee will take place at 2pm on Sunday 10 November 2013 at the grand Filmtheater am Friedrichshain cinema.

Beyond the 5 competition programmes for kids and teens we’ll be screening 7 impressive special pro-grammes that relate to particular themes and genres including documentaries, environmental films as well as a retrospective dedicated to the brilliant Belgian production company Camera-etc and their amazing animation workshop films.

Our children’s and youth jury will confer a first and second prize in each competition category at the awards ceremony given by interfilm, 29th International Short Film Festival Berlin on 17 November 2013 at Kino Babylon.

On the last festival Sunday all children and families are warmly invited to the zapf family screening rec-ommended for ages 6+. We’ll show a colourful selection of the week’s most popular films as well as some that were created during our various [zapf]TrickTruck anim-ation workshops. Our enthusiastic supporters at zapf Umzüge are also treating the audience to this special highlight: entry for this screening is free of charge.

In den Animations-Workshops können Kinder gemeinsam einen Film animie-ren. Erfahrung im

Animationsbereich ist nicht erforderlich, der Spaß, Kreativität und Teamwork steht im Vordergrund. Die Workshops finden in einem mobilen Animationsstudio, dem [zapf]tricK trUcK statt und werden vom belgischen Produktionsteam camera-etc geleitet. Der fertige Film feiert im Rahmen der zapf famili-enVorstellUng am Sonntag, den 17.11. Premiere.

Children are invited to come and work on a collective film in a week-long animation workshop. No previous experience is necessary; it’s all about fun, creativ-ity and concentrated teamwork! The sessions take place inside our fabulous mobile animation studio, the [zapf]triCKtruCK and will be led this year by the Belgian production team Camera-etC. The finished film will be premiered at the zapf familY sCreening on Sunday the 17th of November.

So viele Filme, so viele Länder. Mit über 1000 eingereichten Filmen aus 88 Ländern hat KUKI zu seinem 6. Geburtstag mehr Filme als je zuvor bekommen. Eine Riesenauswahl, die uns begeistert hat, aber es uns auch nicht leicht gemacht hat eine Auswahl zu finden. Die Besten der Besten für Kinder von 6 – 11 Jahren haben wir in diesen Wettbewerbsprogrammen zusammengestellt.

In den fast 20 Filmen der 3 Programme geht es einmal um den Globus. Ob in Afrika, Europa, Asien oder Amerika – unsere Filmhelden haben viel gemeinsam. Wir begegnen sehr mutigen und außerordentlich tapferen Kindern. Es geht um Wünsche, kleine und die ganz großen, Freundschaft und ungewöhnliche Begegnungen. Affen klappern die Zähne vor Kälte, Fische aus Nudeln, ein Junge der die Zeit anhalten kann... gibt’s nicht? Gibt’s doch! Die Welt steht Kopf in diesen Programmen. Auf lustige, ungewöhnliche und manchmal auch nachdenkliche Art werden hier Geschichten von weit weg und aus der Nachbarschaft erzählt.

Unsere Kinderjury wird aus diesen Programmen einen ersten und zweiten Platz küren.

So many films, from so many places! With more than 1000 entries from 88 countries, KUKI received more films for its 6th birthday than ever before! And while it was tough choosing our final selection, we had a great time watching so many wonderful films and hope you are just as thrilled as we are with these exceptionally entertaining and original competition programmes for children aged 6 -11.

We’ll be taking our audience around the globe in 3 programmes comprising almost 20 films. Regardless whether these young film heroines and heroes are from Africa, Europe, Asia or America they all have one thing in common – daring attitude! Expect great films for children about big and little wishes, unexpected friendships and surprising encounters. Be enchanted by shivering monkeys, noodle fish and a boy who can even stop time in this collection of funny, unusual and often thoughtful stories from far, far away and right around the corner.

All Competition films for Children are shown in original versions with English subtitles and live German voice-overs where required.

Im nun 2. Jahr gehen die Jugendwettbewerbe in ihrer eigenen Sektion teenscreen@KUKi an den Start. Filme mit und für junge Menschen zwischen 12 und 18 Jahren. Filme aus insgesamt 88 Ländern standen zur Wahl und die 12 stärksten treten hier gegeneinander an.

Einfallsreich und spannend begegnen wir Themen wie Religion, Einsamkeit, Krankheit, Liebe und Gewissenskon-flikten. Fremde Welten treffen aufeinander, Mut wird zur Mutprobe und folgenschwere Entscheidungen müssen getroffen werden. Ob Animation, Fiktion oder Experimentelles – alles ist dabei. Eben noch in Berlin, jetzt schon in Taiwan, in der Türkei und in Schweden. Egal aus welchem Land – eines haben unsere Hauptakteure gemeinsam. Sie stehen auf den letzten Stufen vor dem Erwachsensein. In diesen Programmen hat die Jugend das Sagen - auch bei der Preisvergabe: Der erste und zweite Preis aus beiden Programmen wird von unserer Jugendjury bestimmt.

Die Filme der Wettbewerbsprogramme ab 12 und ab 14 laufen im Originalton mit deutschen Untertiteln.

Introduced as an exciting new section last year, teensCreen@KuKi is a collection of amazing films for young people aged 12 -18. Over 1000 shorts from 88 countries were watched and discussed by our team and 12 were selected to compete in these two competition programmes.

Encounter imaginative and gripping treatments of themes such as religion, isolation, love, illness and moral con-flict. Foreign worlds collide, courage becomes a test of courage and far-reaching decisions are carefully weighed. From stunning animation, to live-action fiction and inventive experimental films – it’s all here. Hopping from Berlin to Taiwan, from Turkey to Sweden, regardless of where they’re from the protagonists in this section all have one thing in common; they’re on the verge of adulthood. The first and second prize will be conferred by our Youth Jury.

Both the 12+ and 14+ competition programmes will be shown in original versions with German and English subtitles.

Auch wenn die Filme dieser Sektion nicht im Wettbewerb laufen, so sind diese vier Programme für unterschiedli-che Altersklassen eine besonders gelungene Auswahl von brillantem internationalem Filmschaffen.

So bieten wir erstaunliche und verspielte Animationen die Kindergarten Kinder in die berückende Welt des Kinos einführen, unterhaltsam und dabei Einblicke gewährende Filme über unseren Planeten und die Umwelt für Grundschüler; und unvergessliche Dokumentarfilme über faszinierende Protagonisten und deren Innenleben und ihr Umfeld für Kinder auf dem Sprung in die Pubertät.

Dieses Jahr ist die KUKI Retrospektive der erstaunlichen Filmproduktionsfirma Camera-etc gewidmet, welche Animationsfilm Workshops für Kinder und Erwachsene in der ganzen Welt durchführt. This year, KUKI’s retrospective programme is dedicated to the amazing film production company from Belgium called Camera-etc , who holds animation workshops for children and adults all over the world. Die Retro spektive zeigt eine Filmaus-wahl, die thematisch vom Hunger in Afrika über Schulhofgeflüster bis zum Alltag in einer Legebat-terie reicht. Die Vorstellungen der Retro spektive werden von einem der camer a-e tc Produzenten persönlich präsentiert.

The Belgian film production work-shop Camera-etC is dedicated to introducing children and amateurs to the art of animation and story-telling. Active since 1979, their team holds workshops all over the globe and produces internation-ally renowned animation films. This retrospective presents a tiny selec-tion of their groundbreaking work, with themes ranging from hunger in Africa, to schoolyard taunts and even the everyday lives of chickens at a battery farm. 3 Sprachen, 3 Länder? Von wegen! Gleich 12 Länder sind in unseren 3 Sprachprogrammen vertreten. What’s Up? ¿QUe onda? QUoi de neUf? – Ja was ist denn so los auf der Welt? In je einem Programm für die Sprachen Englisch, Spanisch und Französisch wird uns das gezeigt.

In diesem Jahr sind unsere Programme nicht nur geografisch besonders vielfältig. Auch thematisch und stilis-tisch werden uns andere Welten nähergebracht. Ob als Fiktion oder in verschiedensten Animationsstilen – wir belauschen Unterhaltungen auf Schultoiletten in Frankreich, erfahren über die Sehnsüchte Jugendlicher in der Karibik und treffen auf einen Großvater, der aus dem Indochina Krieg erzählt. In Argentinien philosophiert man darüber, ob man alleine auf eine Party gehen sollte und in Neuseeland besucht ein Junge seinen uncoolen Vater.

Die Filme geben einen Einblick in fremde Kulturen und die unterschiedlichsten Akzente der jeweiligen Sprache. Alle Filme der Sprachprogramme werden im Original gezeigt und gleichzeitig in der Originalsprache untertitelt. Jugendliche und andere Sprachlernende bekommen mit diesen Programmen die Chance ihre Sprachkenntnisse anzuwenden und zu vertiefen.

3 different languages, from 3 countries you assume? Boring! We present a total of 12 countries in our 3 foreign language programmes: What’s up?, ¿Que onda? and Quoi de neuf?. And just what is exactly up, what moves the youth of today, what do they talk about and how? Find out in one programme respectively for English, Spanish and French and pick up some new expressions in the process!

This year our programmes are as diverse thematically and stylistically as they are geographically. Bringing us closer to both unfamiliar and recognizable worlds, these collections of live action fiction films and stunning animations let us eavesdrop on school toilet discussions in France, experience teenage longing in the Caribbean and meet a grandfather who fought in the First Indochina War. In Argentina, young guys philosophise about being single at parties, while a kid in New Zealand is forced to spend the day with his uncool dad.

Offering foreign language students the opportunity to tune into a broad range of dialects and behold other ways of life, these programmes are a fantastic way to enrich the learning process. All films are shown in original versions and subtitled in the same language.

A fund-raising campaign that enables children from economically challenged families to attend KUKI Festival screenings. A donation of €100 pays for a class of 30 children to attend their programme of choice. In Zusammenarbeit mit der Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung und der AG Kurzfilm bietet KUKI die Weiterbildungsveranstaltung KUrzfilm macht schUle an. In dem eintägigen Workshop sollen Pädagogen das Medium Film besser kennen- und verstehen lernen. An Hand praktischer Filmbeispiele und begleitender Arbeitsmaterialien werden die vielfältigen Anwendungsmöglichkeiten von Kurzfilmen im Unterricht erarbeitet.

We’re sending short films back to school! In cooperation with the Federal Agency for Civic Education and AG Kurzfilm (the German Short Film Association) KUKI is hosting an intensive one day teachers’ training called Kurzfilm maCht sChule. Combining film comprehension with instruction on how to best utilise short films during school lessons, pedagogues will be shown practical examples and given accompanying material about diverse ways in which short films can enrich the classroom learning experience.
