KSR step screenfor separating solid matter from liquids
KUHN KSR step screenContinuous progress in the development of modern sewage treatmentplants requires the highest degree of innovation. Regarding process-engineering and mechanical engineering solutions, in particular,
exacting requirements have to be met.
In this respect, KUHN KSR step screens represent a newgeneration of fine screen filters which conform to state-
of-the-art technological standards, both inproduction and on-site operation. Fault-free
operation, a long service life, less maintenanceand simple integration in existing plants arejust some of the positive features that we canguarantee for this type of machine.
ApplicationKUHN KSR step screens are predominantly
used in the preliminary treatment stage ofmunicipal and industrial sewage treatment plants.
These step screens are also used in other areas, such asin the pretreatment of processing liquids (abattoirs,
tanneries, fish processing plants, and similar) as well as intreatment plants of the paper industry.
FunctioningThe stainless-steel fine screen with essentially consists of the frame, the screening surface with stationary and moving step-like lamellasand the drive unit with limit switch. The moving lamellas perform a
self-cleaning rotational movement across the entire screen surface, according to the counter-flow principle. Consequently, no brushes, scrapers or additional rinsing devices are required for purification.
Solid matter is caught by the step-like screening surface. Duringintermittent operation, a screenings mat is formed and this is
responsible for the main filtration. With this mat, solid matter thatis very small in relation to the selected lamella gap width can also
be caught. Due to the action of the moving lamella screen, thescreenings mat is conveyed step by step.
There is a floor ramp near the bottom step, and as a consequence, the machine is resistant to grit and other deposits.
Above the water level, thick plastic lamellas are used 1)* and serveto minimise the gap width, thereby preventing screenings fromfalling through.

Design (technical features)The superior design of our KUHN KSR step screens ensures optimumoperation in terms of environmental-friendliness and cost-effectiveness, as well as long-term security of your investment. Thebeneficial features include the following:
• Maximum throughput and separation capacities, small hydraulic height loss
• Gap width: 1 – 6 mm
• Lamella thickness (2mm or 3 mm)
• Screen grid with largest effective grid width in the world available
• Self-cleaning screen surface
- No brushes or scrapers
- No additional washing water required
• Heavy duty screen frame made of folded profiles with optimised strength characteristics
• Gear motor acting as drive unit enclosed in separate housing (providing protection against aggressive and damp sewage va-pours)
• Chain drive unit with automatic tensioning device
• Drive unit and bearings are generally situated above the water-line
• Removable covers for hygienic enclosure above the channel
• Simple retrofitting for existing structures
• Simple maintenance
• Quiet running due to special bearing design
• No fastening at the base area required
• Machine can be pivoted out of the channel
High throughput and separation rates • Gap width of 1-6 mm • Self-cleaning screen surface • Little space required • Simple retrofitting • Gear motor completely enclosed • No bearings, shafts or joints in underwater
section • Simple maintenance • Quiet running
