Our Evolutionary History

To manufacture a superior

energy efficient, IBS

building system

from 1974 - 2011

Page 3: Koto Evolutionary History_2

KOTO 1:

Developed in 1974 as a fully EIFS exterior energy efficient wall cladding.

Rigid cellular insulation was fixed to stud frame walls with designer fixings followed by fibreglass mesh & composite application.

The koto architectural finishes were applied on site.

The system was successfully tested and approved by NATA testing facilities for cyclonic wind speeds of 60 m/s.

Thousands of these were installed in cyclonic, and fluctuating temperature regions.

From 1974

Page 4: Koto Evolutionary History_2

KOTO 2:

Developed in 1984 and tested for axial compression, bending & raking (Test report DL101-Log 183) with excellent result, was approved for cyclonic wind speeds of 60m/s.

Fully engineered and signed off by BHP Australia.

This patented energy efficient cold rolled steel structure with fire retardant rigid cellular insulation pressurized into the frame was then coated with a fibre reinforced composite finish.

Used in many private and military projects throughout Malaysia and the Philippines.

From 1985

Page 5: Koto Evolutionary History_2

KOTO 3:

The Koto system was used extensively in Malaysia consisting of cold rolled frames with aerated composite infill,s and finished with Koto architectural finishes.

It was at this time, we

said…….

we will find a

Solution to the Global

Housing Crisis.

Page 7: Koto Evolutionary History_2

They said,

It was Impossible……

It could Not be Done

Page 8: Koto Evolutionary History_2

Our 1st step for a ‘Solution to the Global Housing Crisis’. We asked:-

Developers

Engineers

Architects

Contractors

Project managers

Government Specification Officers

1. Build Faster

2. Build Smarter

3. Build Cheaper

4. Build more Profitable

5. Build with better Quality

What they, would like to see - they all replied

KOTO 4:

The K-Block designs are registered in many countries including the United States, the European Union, Malaysia, Australia etc. This fully integrated, energy efficient, IBS building system, is manufactured on a high-speed Koto Processing Line, similar to what Henry Ford did for the motor vehicle industry. Koto has licensed the intellectual property, to a number of globally green conscious organizations that is quickly changing the way people think about construction. Simple to use, very cost effective and competes against conventional construction throughout Asia. K-Blocks are essentially reinforced permanent formwork – the adjacent photo demonstrates what the reinforced concrete looks like internally.

KOTO 4:

Koto building system is a number of ‘Vertical Beams’. Our columns are in fact acting like vertical beams for flexure. Hence for face flexure and racking engineering uses beam formula.

The KOTO system is neither a wall, nor a column, nor a beam in terms of strictly complying with the code.

For housing where there is no vertical compression to worry about, the KOTO system is fully designed as a series of beams both vertical and horizontal. In fact from a structural point of view KOTO is a "Vierendeel" Truss.

We have just found it convenient to alternatively call it "Load Bearing Wall" and "Column and Beam", or “Vertical Beam” to explain it.

From 2005 until Today

More than any other

building system on the

planet.

Ideal for any climate

from low cost housing to

up-market high-rise

apartments.

KOTO 4:

5 Stories without columns using Koto 4 as

a ‘Shear Wall’ system. It is a simple, fast, energy efficient, IBS construction methodology as shown in the diagram.

Some professional engineers have designed up to 20 levels using the koto shear wall methodology.

900mm x 3.6m K-Blocks due to their module dimensions are ideal for this application.

Page 16: Koto Evolutionary History_2

KOTO 4:

Langkawi Chalets

Step elevated land projects are ideally suited due to the Low-Dead-Load-Weight, Green building system, waterproof, energy efficient and design flexibility.

In Tawau long houses on the water and Island eco resort found Koto 4 ideal due to its ability to resist wind driven

saline and rusting.

Page 17: Koto Evolutionary History_2

KOTO 4:

Birds Houses in Sabah,

Sarawak and Indonesia are quickly and easily constructed with ideal security far superior than brick construction.

Huge reduction in transport, plastering and labour costs.

Now called Koto Bird Hotels by some who say the swallow is much happier, increased yield and quality grade of the birds nest product.

Page 18: Koto Evolutionary History_2

KOTO 4:

Floating Buildings

Due to the Low-Dead-Load-Weight Koto offers without compromise to toughness and strength.

Koto floating commercial properties or resort hospitality chalets are mounted on pontoons encapsulated with polyethylene to resist water bugs. Can be anchored using Koto Screw Piles vertically or Horizontally.

KOTO 4:

Mining Quarters

Micro homes

1 piece wall & roof Modernized micro and compact living.

Ideal for small confined spaces, mining town accommodation and the one piece wall and roof combination is ideal for low cost housing due to its easy transportation and snap together principle.

KOTO 4:

The Water People of Tawau Sabah East Malaysia enjoy the natural surroundings, fresh air and need to keep the weight as low as possible on their river frontage housing.

Koto 150mm K-Block is ideal for this construction as a protective barrier that will not deteriorate.

The smooth surface provides an esthetically pleasing appearance to their home.

KOTO 4:

Low Cost Housing

One of the great things about the diversity of the Koto energy efficient building system is that the same components are used for either low cost, commercial properties or up-market high-rise construction.

The only difference is the finish.

The occupants found their homes to be very cool in the hot tropical environment and after 10 years they still look like new.

Now everyone can afford a home

Page 23: Koto Evolutionary History_2

KOTO 4:

Koto Fences: Contractors who have installed a Koto fence all have one think in common to say.

They will never go back to using bricks.

The fence is pre-plastered and complete with core holes ready for reinforced concrete.

Hundreds of metres can be installed per day and the finish will not absorb large volumes of paint.

KOTO 4:

SCHOOLS

built from Koto products will provide children with a cool, comfortable environment to study.

Multi-story schools may take advantage of using Koto vertical beam design capability, or designers may choose to use Koto 4 panels as infill's between columns and beams.

Koto is ideal for remote schools as practically every components can be transported on one truck.

Page 27: Koto Evolutionary History_2

KOTO 4:

Koto Water Harvesting:

Koto encourages all parties to consider water harvesting wherever possible.

Exterior reverse roofing is ideal for community use, whereas up market dwellings can form the roof design as part of the koto design.

Page 28: Koto Evolutionary History_2

KOTO 4:

Koto dares you to go Green:

As the design flexibility allows, larger or commercial complexes should consider Greening their roof or in the case of flat roofing grow agricultural crops using hydro or aquaponic Auto-Pots available from Iris Corporation Berhad – Malaysia

Page 29: Koto Evolutionary History_2

KOTO 5:

Koto 4 K-Blocks can be used for infill panels between columns and beams to provide energy efficient buildings that class A corporations prefer to occupy to be green and reduce their energy costs.

The Low-Dead-Load-Weight allows value engineers to re-design the foundations, pile caps, columns and beams.

Low cost housing apartments may choose to use the standard koto pre-plastered panel as a finish, whereas acrylic, aluminum or other up-market claddings are easily and permanently fixed into the koto system.

Koto Columns are designed to suit the engineers specs and the beam easily pulls into the column without fixings.
