KONE ECO3000® EscalatorsSuperior Technology and Absolute Reliability
KONE ECO3000The Solution That Delivers Reliability
The KONE ECO3000 delivers a “no compromise,” high quality,
durable escalator that operates smoothly and quietly, providing
customers with low life-cycle costs and a long life. Reliability is built
into the design and manufacture of all KONE ECO3000 escalators.
As the leading escalator manufacturer, KONE’s performance, reliability
and experience have been proven in every type of demanding
escalator application.
ECO3000 escalator solutions are based on superior technology and
decades of expertise.
BENEFITS FOR ALL APPLICATIONS
z Tailored options to match your needs
z Suitable for new and existing buildings
z Exceptionally smooth and quiet ride
z Power saving feature for periods ofpassenger inactivity
z Wide range of finishes
z Meets or exceeds worldwide safetycodes, including ASME, EN115 and B44
ECO3000 – an ecoLogical solutionMore efficient and less wear
At the heart of the ECO3000 is the KONE EcoDrive™. Using a chainless design, this drive improves operating efficiency and
reduces energy consumption. ECO3000 is designed to run for 30,000 hours, twice as long as conventional drive systems, before
it requires an oil change. The economic and environmental benefits demonstrate how KONE’s ECO3000 is an ecoLogical solution.
Technology that improves efficiency
The sophisticated microprocessor-based controller provides options that allow connection to your building’s monitoring
system. This controller constantly monitors speed, direction, safety status and other key operating parameters to improve
availability and reduce downtime.
Cleaning that doesn’t harm the environment
Traditional escalators have lubricated step chains that attract dust and dirt, requiring cleaning with
solvents and strong detergents. ECO3000’s EcoChain™ step chain option is lubricated for life –
chains that require no oiling, which are safer, better for the environment and lower life-cycle costs.

Less energy and only when you need it
The EcoStart option combines proven energy saving
technology with a solid state soft start. Tests conducted
by electric utilities show typical savings of 20% – 40% on
escalators. The EcoStart saves energy while maintaining
normal operating speed. It also reduces the operating
temperature of the motor. The EcoStart is the only
energy saving technology of its kind that is
engineered specifically for escalators and is CSA
B44.1/ASME A17.5 certified.
KEY BENEFITS:
z Proven energy savings
z Reduces motor temperature
z Maintains normal RPM
z Protects the environment by reducing emissions
z Qualifies for utility rebates and incentives

CONTROL & ANNUNCIATOR:This microprocessor controller is designedto work in conjunction with other safetydevices to provide correct informationprocessing and proper escalator control.Escalator faults are identified by the control and illuminated in a display on the control cabinet.
ESCALATOR BRAKE:A permanent magnet ceramic brake isdesigned to gradually stop the escalator, and hold it stationary under full load. Theclosed-loop brake circuit is designed tomeet current ASME Code decelerationrate requirements and operate in conjunction with a velocity feedbackencoder and microprocessor controller.
SKIRT GAP AND STIFFNESS:Installation of skirt stiffening channels isdesigned to provide uniform clearancebetween the step edge and skirt, reducingthe possibility of entrapment between thestep and skirt.
DEMARCATION INSERTS:Installation of plastic demarcation insertsalong the side and rear of step warn passengers of possible foot entrapmentpoints and will not wear off after time like paint.
EMERGENCY STOP BUTTONSAND ALARM:The emergency stop button installed at a45 degree angle increases accessibility inthe event of an emergency.
PIT STOP SWITCH:All escalator machine spaces and areaswhere interior access to the escalator isallowed, are furnished with a stop switch.
REVERSAL STOP DEVICE:Protection against accidental or inadvertentreversing of an escalator operating in theUP direction is monitored by a directionalfeedback encoder. This device, when activated, turns off the motor and activatesthe brake, bringing the escalator to asmooth stop.
STEP DEMARCATION LIGHTS:Green fluorescent light fixtures beneaththe steps at the landings are designed tosignal the passenger that the end of theescalator is near.
STEP UP THRUST DEVICE:This device is designed to detectobstructions in the lower curve area, which could cause a step to be elevated, thus impacting the combplate. When this device detects a raised step, it willshut off the motor and activate the braketo stop the escalator.
HANDRAIL SPEED MONITORINGDEVICE: A Handrail Speed Sensor isdesigned to measure the variation in speedbetween the step band and handrail. Ifspeed variation exceeds the standard, thecontroller will sound an alarm buzzer, turnoff power to the motor and activate thebrake to stop the escalator.
MISSING STEP DEVICE: This device is designed to detect a missingstep. When a missing step is detected, power to the motor is turned off and thebrake is activated to stop the escalator.
STEP LEVEL DEVICE: This device is designed to detect a stepthat is about to enter the comb area at a“lower elevation” than the combplate. If a“low step” is detected, the escalator isturned off and the brake is applied to stopthe escalator.
HANDRAIL ENTRY DEVICE:This device is designed to turn off themotor and activate the brake to stop theescalator when an object is detectedentering the handrail inlet area.
COMB IMPACT DEVICE: This device is designed to shut off themotor and activate the brake in the eventthat combplate movement is detectedhorizontally or vertically.
SAFETY SIGNS:These signs are designed to caution andprovide safety information to the passengers.
SKIRT OBSTRUCTION DEVICE:This device is designed to detect obstructions between the skirt and step at the point where the step approachesthe upper and/or lower combplate area. This device will shut down the escalator in the case of an entrapment.
BROKEN STEP-CHAIN DEVICE:Installed on the lower end carriage, thisdevice is designed to detect step-chainbreakage or excessive step-chain sag.
KONE ECOSTART (OPTIONAL):This energy performance control isdesigned to save up to 40% in energycosts, extend motor life and provide asmooth, safe start.
SKIRT BRUSHES:These escalator skirt deflector brushes aredesigned to encourage safe escalator useby providing a subtle indicator to passengers riding near the step’s edge.
DECK GUARDS:These plastic barriers are designed to prevent an object and people from gettingwedged between the escalator handrailand a wall or another escalator.
YELLOW COMB SEGMENTS:These yellow comb segments define theend of a moving escalator step and thestationary aluminum access cover whilewarning passengers to pick up their feet.
