Brothers,
The new fraternal yearbegan October 1st and endsSeptember 30, 2010. Thenew beginning marks a timeof financial renewal forGrand Chapter, all Under-graduate and Alumni chap-ters. Pittsburgh Alumni isasking you to become a fi-nancial supporter.
Our annual dues are $205;the same amount it hasbeen for the past 20 years. If you are a Life member, there is no other financialcommitment you have tomake. If you are an AnnualDues Paying member, youradditional financial commit-ment is $150 payable toGrand Chapter.
The month of Septemberwas rather slow when com-pared to the excitement ofthe 79th Grand Conclave inWashington in early Augustand the PAC Kook-out at theend of August. The PAC of-ficers meet every month andour various committees are
becoming more active. Weneed your involvement atchapter meetings, in thecommittee process and atany fraternal functions. Weparticipated again in theAfrican-American HeritageDay Parade on October 3rd.PAC had 8 to 10 brothers towalk in the parade. It is myunderstanding that we hadthe largest contingent of fra-ternity or sorority membersto participate. Thank you tothe brothers that made theeffort, it was very much ap-preciated.
We will continue to ask youto be an active participant inthe process. The next chap-ter meeting will be held onFriday October 16thth at theCentre Avenue YMCA, lo-cated at the corner of Fran-cis Street & Centre Avenueacross from Wesley Chapelchurch. Much Ado aboutDues
The PAC annual dues are
$205. The first $25 is allocated
to the East Central Province
(“ECP”) and $180 for PAC. The
payment of your PAC dues
supports the monthly repast
meal (estimated at $9 per meal
or $81 for the year), your entry
at Founder’s Day (minimum
$40 dinner & souvenir), the
Kappa Kook-out ($18 per
brother including guest based
on 2009 figures) and the gen-
eral operations of the chapter
which includes such items as
chapter insurance, postage,
benevolence, room rental, con-
ferences, reclamation, under-
grad relations, copying/printing,
advertising, Pan Hellenic, web
site, etc. Our dues are a bar-
gain when compared to other
alumni chapters such as $407
at Annapolis Alumni, $250 up
to $400 at Detroit Alumni, $260
at Petersburg VA Alumni; just a
few that we know. We believe
other chapters within our
province such as Cleveland,
Dayton, Cincinnati, Akron, etc
are all greater than PAC. Is
$205 overkill or enough?
If you are a Life member, no
other financial commitment is
required besides your annual
dues to PAC. If you are an An-
nual Dues Paying member, you
would also be asked to pay
$150 to Grand Chapter to be fi-
nancial. The amount can be
mailed to Grand Chapter di-
rectly, paid electronically
through the Grand Chapter
web site or paid to PAC and the
funds will be remitted on your
behalf. Your total payment
would be $355. If you were not
active within the past year or
more, there is a reinstatement
fee due Grand Chapter
which should not be
more than $20 in total.
PAC needs all brothers
who were not active in
the past to become a fi-
nancial supporter this fra-
ternal year. We have
some important goals to
accomplish and your help
is critical. One of our
goals is to increase the
fully financial member-
ship roll by 50% over the
2008/2009 number of 50.
We believe it is truly time
for the PAC members to have a
place without worry of meetings
running past the allotted time or
being told what days or times we
can meet. A place where we
can meet, greet and enjoy the
bonds of fraternity.
Come back to the spirit of One
Kappa and your alumni chapter.
All checks should be made
payable to “PAC” and mailed to
the post office box (Pittsburgh
Alumni Chapter, P. O. Box
99395, Pittsburgh, PA 15233-
4185) or brought to the October
chapter meeting on the 16th at
the Centre Avenue YMCA.

Head, Heart, andHands Needs YourHelp
During the CRWLC, attendees were
honored to have in attendance Dr.
Reginald T.W. Nichols EdD., presi-
dent of the
Piney Woods
School. Dr.
Nichols the
fourth Kappa
man to preside
over the school,
delivered a
wealth of infor-
mation about
the unique pro-
gram.
The Piney
Woods School
is a selective,
college-preparatory institution located
on 2,000 acres of rural forest land.
The grounds are divided into a 60-
acre main campus, a 500-acre
demonstration farm, and over 1,440
acres of managed timberland in Mis-
sissippi.
The mission of The Piney Woods
School is to provide excellence in ed-
ucation within a Christian environ-
ment through the creation of an
exceptional academic model which
supports the tenet that all students
can learn, develop a strong work
ethic, and lead extraordinary lives
through academic achievement and
responsible citizenship. As an inter-
denominational Christian school, we
affirm the values of faith, discipline,
excellence, and service.
The Piney Woods School is the flag-
ship of the four remaining histori-
cally African-American boarding
schools in the United States. With
thousands of alumni who have
come from all over the United
States and the world, The Piney
Woods School has been a hallmark
of excellence in its 98-year history.
Graduates have attended Princeton,
Smith, Harvard, Howard, Hampton,
Tuskegee, Florida A&M, and many
of the country’s other outstanding
public and private colleges and uni-
versities. They have pursued de-
grees in medicine, law, marketing,
education, administration, and the
arts and have become leaders in
their respective fields.
As The Piney Woods School is chal-
lenged to train leaders who have
hearts that are full of compassion,
energy, and faith, so to are we as a
fraternity challenged to adopt this
school.
St. Jude has witnessed the phil-
antropic power of Kappa Alphs Psi,
receiving more than 750,000 dollars
in donations, eclipsing the 500,000
dollar goal years early. That same
power can be realized by The Piney
Woods School. The new national
initiative is to raise 100,000 dollars
for the school by centennial. Let the
giving begin.
