Knowledge Management is Leadership driven

Beyond all technology driven hype lies the greatest untapped resource of the last two decade – Knowledge. Knowledge Management is means of creating, storing, accessing and reusing to Knowledge to accomplish organizational goal.

The Ramayana and Mahabharata the two great epics of India both tell us the importance of knowledge management. Both these war ended with the celebration of victory for humanity and truth but with transmission of knowledge too.

After defeating kaurvas, Pandavas were about take charge of Hastinapur. Krishna advised them to talk to Bhisma who lies mortally wounded on the battlefield. As a result of a blessing, death would elude him for sometime. Krishna said Pandavas that ask as many as questions you can to Bhisma as he had vast experience and had immense knowledge of almost everything

Pandavas started asking on various topics like from geography, management, politics, economics, war ethics, morality, astronomy. After listening the experience of Bhisma,Pandavas have better understanding of the world and this made them better king.

Now come to Ramayana, after killing Ravana , Ram asked his brother Lakshman that go quickly to Ravana and request him to share what ever knowledge he can as he is a scholar and has great knowledge about Vedas and Shastras.

The Obedient Lakshman rusfles to Ravanas side and whispers in his ear “ Demon King” all your life you have taken not given . Now the noble Ram gives you an opportunity to mend your ways. Share your vast Wisdom Do not let die with you, for that you will be surely be blessed.

Ravan responds by simply turning away because it is not the appropriate way to ask for something from anybody especially when it is knowledge. so remember when you are asking for knowledge from anybody treat him as teacher(guru). An angry Lakshman came back to Ram and said that he is as arrogant as he was always too proud to share anything. Ram looked at his brother and asked him softly where did you stand while asking him for knowledge ? Lakshman replied next to his head so that I hear clearly what ever he says Ram smiles and places his bow on the ground and walk where Ravan lies. Lakshman watches in astonishment as brother kneels at Ravans feet with palm joined with extreme humanity, this is the way to ask for knowledge from scholar man, Ram says “Lord of Lanka” you abducted my wife ,at a terrible crime for which have been forced to punish you. Now you are no more my enemy. I see u at now as you are known across the world . I bow to you and request you to share your wisdom with me . Please do this. If you die without doing so all your wisdom will lost to the world. Raman opened his eyes

up and raised his Ram to salute Ram. “ If I had more time as your teacher then as your enemy standing at my feet as a student should, unlike your rude younger brother ,you are a worthy recipient of my knowledge .I have very little time so I can’t share much but let me tell you one important lesson I have learnt in my life .Things that are bad for you seduce you easily ,you run towards them impatiently. But thing’s are actually good for you fail to attract you ; you shun them creatively , finding powerful excuses to justify your procrastination . That’s why I was impatient to abduct sita but avoided meeting you . this is wisdom of my life ,Ram.My last words I give it to you “ with these word ravan dies . Both these story draw attention to the value of knowledge management & tells that every employee after working with organization gains lots of information and knowledge about work and organization .Today in India with growing economy And immense opportunity in market no talented people is going to stay in one organization for longer span of time so it is very important for organization to treat there outgoing employee as ‘Ravan’ or Bhisma. Knowledge management is important to software engineering because organization’s need more than just human capital to successfully distribute and use their employee’s knowledge . Knowledge might be inexpensive , but effectively using and managing is not. In software &Research development industry there are lots of Ravans & Bhisma .Organization must give respect to these people and try to retain there knowledge .This can be done only by leader like ram not any lakshman can do this work ,because knowledge management is Leadership driven .
