Kemitraan Negara Berkembang Scholarship, popularly known as KNB

Scholarship, is a financial assistance offered by the Indonesian

Government to prospec�ve interna�onal students coming from

developing countries to pursue their master’s degree in one of

Indonesian universi�es. The scholarship was conceived in the 10th

Conference of Heads of States of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM)

countries, 1 –6 September 1992. The Government of Republic of

Indonesia began to offer the scholarship to poten�al students from NAM

member countries in the following year.

The regional exclusiveness of the scholarship was revoke in 2002 since it

had developed global interest. It was then the scholarship was officially

renamed as Kemitraan Negara Berkembang Scholarship (KNB) and the

recipients were no longer limited to NAM member countries. To date,

the scholarship has also been offered to other developing countries in

Asia, Pacific, South America, Africa, and Eastern Europe. Eventually, the

scholarship is expected to build the people-to-people rela�ons between

Indonesia and the recipient countries. It aims at nurturing their future

leaders.

KNB offers an experience of studying in top universi�es in Indonesia and

at the same �me living in one of the world’s most diverse and vibrant

society. By ge�ng the scholarship, students will experience quality

postgraduate programs managed by the twenty university partners.

Their degrees will enhance their intellectual standing, develop their

competencies, and open wider professional opportuni�es, a founda�on

for post-college success. Certainly, they will also be able to enjoy first-

hand experience of living in a mul�cultural and mul�lingual society.

1. Indonesian Language Training ProgramA one academic year Indonesian Language (Bahasa) course is a

compulsory for all KNB students as all courses required to complete

the academic program (lecture and thesis) will be conducted in

Bahasa. The Bahasa course will be provided by each University. 2. Preparatory Program

Preparatory program prior to the academic program will be arranged

in accordance with the university’s policy and program planning.3. Academic Program

The maximum length of scholarship disbursement:a. 6 semesters for Doctorate Degree program. There are two schemes

of doctorate degree offered under the scholarship: Doctorate

program by Research and Doctorate program by a combina�on of

coursework and research. An extension of maximum 2 semester

can be granted on case-by-case assessment on the candidates

individual specific case.b. 4 semesters for Master Degree program. c. 8 semesters for Bachelor Degree program.

In order to successfully complete the program, it is important for all

KNB awardees to consistently produce a good academic

performance by developing a can do a�tude, stay focus, as well as

being punctual, and discipline.

D. PROGRAM STRUCTURE




The KNB Scholarship covers:1. A Se�lement allowance of IDR 1,500,000 will be given to new students

upon their arrival in Indonesia;2. While taking the Indonesian language course and preparatory

programs, the new students will only receive living allowance and

book allowance that will be distributed monthly;3. During the Academic Program, the KNB students will receive monthly

allowance that consists of living allowance and research and book

allowance;4. A health insurance with a maximum of IDR 400,000 monthly premium

(In case of the cost of medical services exceeded to those covered by

the health insurance, the difference should be borne by the student);5. A round-trip interna�onal airfare (economy class) from the interna-

�onal airport of the student’s home countries to Indonesia, including

local transport to the host university;6. The dura�on of scholarship is exclusively correlated to the dura�on of

the academic program as indicated below:

7. Please be advised that the KNB Scholarship is calculated to support

the KNB Student costs only. There is no provision for dependents. KNB

Students are advised not to bring dependents to Indonesia. The KNB

Scholarship provides no financial or pastoral support for dependants

and will not endorse the visa applica�ons of, nor provide travel for,

dependants.* Note: Other expenses beside above men�oned items will be

considered as personal expenses and will be borne by the

students.

F. REQUIREMENTS

REQUIREMENTS FOR DOCTORATE DEGREE SCHOLARSHIP

1. The maximum age to apply for the scholarship is 40 years old.2. Hold a master degree (please provide the scanned degree cer�ficate

and academic transcripts in English). Please be advised that

Doctorate degree holder is not eligible to apply.3. Obtain a recommenda�on le�er from the poten�al research

supervisor in one of the universi�es providing partner of the KNB

Scholarship.4. Provide a statement of purpose that at least states the purpose of

their studies, the origin of their interests in studying in Indonesia and

pursuing their chose research topic and their plans for the academic

future.5. Have a TOEFL or IELTS (or other cer�fied English Proficiency Test) score

of 90 TOEFL IBT or 7.0 IELTS or equivalent (the cer�ficate must be

obtained within the last 2 Years).6. Complete the online applica�on form.


REQUIREMENTS FOR MASTER DEGREE SCHOLARSHIP

1. The maximum age to apply for the scholarship is 35 years old.2. Hold a bachelor degree (please provide the scanned degree cer�ficate

and academic transcripts in English). Please be advised that master

degree holder is not eligible to apply for the Master Degree

scholarship.3. Have at least the IBT TOEFL score of 80, or IELTS score of 6.0, or TOEIC

score of 700 (the cer�ficate must be obtained within the last 2 Years).4. Provide the recommenda�on le�er to apply for the KNB scholarship

from the Indonesian Embassy or the Indonesian Consulate General.5. Provide recommenda�on le�er to apply for the KNB scholarship from

the employer/immediate supervisor.6. Provide Academic Recommenda�on Le�er from previous schools.7. Prove of ci�zenship (Official Passport or Personal ID).8. Complete the online applica�on form.

REQUIREMENTS FOR BACHELOR DEGREE SCHOLARSHIP

1. The maximum age to apply for the scholarship is 25 years old.2. Hold a High School degree (please provide the scanned degree

cer�ficate and academic transcripts in English). Please be advised

that master degree holder is not eligible to apply for the Master

Degree scholarship.3. Have the English Proficiency Test Score as follows: IBT TOEFL of 80,

IELTS of 6.0, TOEIC of 700(the cer�ficate must be obtained within the

last 2 Years).4. Provide the recommenda�on le�er to apply for the KNB scholarship

from the Indonesian Embassy or the Indonesian Consulate General.5. Provide recommenda�on le�er to apply for the KNB scholarship from

the employer/immediate supervisor.6. Provide Academic Recommenda�on Le�er from previous schools.7. Prove of ci�zenship (Official Passport or Personal ID).8. Complete the online applica�on form.



All applica�on process is conducted online through the KNB Scholarship

website h�ps://knb.kemdikbud.go.id. Please be advised that solici�ng

is prohibited.

Applica�on Procedures1. Download the Invita�on Le�er from the KNB Scholarship website; 2. Submit the Invita�on le�er, Passport, Academic Cer�ficates and

Academic Transcripts to the Indonesian Embassy or Indonesian

Consulate to acquire the recommenda�on le�er; 3. Complete the online applica�on process; 4. Selec�on process; 5. The Selec�on Results will be broadcasted online through the KNB

Scholarship Website and officially announced through the Indonesian

Embassy publica�on network;

During the applica�on process, please pay close a�en�on to some

important informa�on below:1. We strongly suggest you to collect as many informa�on as possible on

the universi�es and your desired study program. Please be advised

that once you are admi�ed, changing either the universi�es or your

study program is strictly prohibited.2. The recommenda�on le�er from Indonesian Embassy is mandatory.

The recommenda�on le�er will be issued based on verifica�on and

necessary background and/or security checks conducted by the

Indonesian Embassy. In case of no Indonesian official representa�ve

in your country, you need to obtain the le�er from any Indonesian

Embassy accredited to your country.3. All the required documents have to be wri�en or officially translated

in English.

G. HOW TO APPLY



4. The par�cipants from English speaking country are not automa�cally

excluded from the requirement to a�ach the wri�en prove of their

English proficiency. 5. The universi�es will be conduc�ng the selec�on process that should

include (if necessary) online interview with the poten�al candidates.
