6.1 President’s Report Again this year we have had an incredible season. I believe this is because we are supported by outstanding people who donate their time and energy to ensure that KNA is a leader in our sport within this region and our State:-

Our Canoon Road Plan of Management is well underway with our Lights approved at Canoon Road and many facility upgrades in the wings You will see new facilities coming at the end of this season with our carpark and court upgrades, shelters and tables being upgraded. 2017 will see the beginning of our committee working towards lights with both KMC and KNA. A working committee has now been setup of our members and KMC local residents. It will be a big year ahead in 2017 for us with our plans for lights and upgrades to surfaces at both Canoon Road and Lofberg courts. . We wish to ensure we can provide the best facilities possible for our KNA family and look forward continued discussions with Council to ensure that occurs..

Congratulations must go to our Umpires who have performed well this year at Netball Central. On behalf of Netball NSW. Shauna Winchester, Jess Clay and Nicky Davis were each allocated a Metro League Semi-final in 2016, with Shauna allocated as a reserve for a Metro League Final and the Metro League 1 Grand Final. This is a wonderful result for our umpires at KNA who also assist many other associations at State and State Age It displays the level of dedication and professionally we have developed within our ranks. Well done to KNA Umpires.

Our Representative program is the pinnacle of our association and ensures the ongoing development of our coaches, players, umpires and administrators. I'm not sure everyone knows how privileged we

Page 8: KNA Annual General Meeting 2016 - Netball Australiakna.nsw.netball.com.au/files/39192/files/Meeting Minutes - Current... · KNA – AGM 19 November 2016 Page 4 Agenda KNA Annual General

are to have such an amazing program which is supported by an incredible group of passionate people who work tirelessly to ensure its' success from the Players, Coaches, Managers, Selectors, Appointments panel Umpires, and by no means least the Rep Committee Their support and hard work doesn't go unnoticed and from everyone here at KNA thank you for all you do. Our success cannot happen without your dedication and hard work.

This year has seen a very successful season within our Rep Program both in Senior and Junior. We congratulate all our Representative teams for their great achievements this year. You've had a wonderful year with many positive results. Our Seniors were very successful in our Metro League program and all participated in the final series with our Metro 1 team winning the Grand final to bring home the trophy for the first time in over 20 years. Congratulations to Lisa Duncan and Kristen Barnes on this wonderful achievement We are very proud of you. To our Jnr. Program again well done this year with outstanding results from our 13 and 14 year teams. KNA has also had the privilege of participating in the inaugural season of Premier League in our joint partnership with North Shore United. Our teams were both in the final series which is an outstanding result

We'd like to say congratulations to Rob Wright and the Sydney Swifts in getting to the Grand Final this year. You gave us lots of exciting times and we wish you well with the new competition. Congratulations also to Julie Fitzgerald (KNA Life Member) on her appointment as Head Coach of the Giants for 2017. Welcome home Julie and thank you for your unwavering support to this Association and all things netball. Both of you enjoy your season and good luck to your both from everyone at KNA.

Our annual fund raiser was a great success and we thank the many who donated both money and goods

to KNA. It's a great day with this year's theme crazy hair and sock day again showing us how much fun everyone had to ensuring it's success and we are very proud to be associated with such a wonderful cause. Well done everyone.

We once again thank our wonderful sponsors of KNA. We thank them for their contribution to KNA and all

the members who have benefited and look forward to seeing many of you back next year.

The Executive are extremely proud to have such wonderful support from our members who actively assist us achieve our goals. Thank you everyone. We continually strive to improve in everything we do at KNA to develop as an association and can only do this with your help. Through our meetings and Competition and Presidents forums we strive to upgrade our knowledge with our members who are passionate about tour sport. This is your opportunity to have your say as to how things are running at KNA so please let your clubs know your thoughts. This is your association and your sport and we can only build on the great ideas you have by means of consultation between all parties. To the many KNA volunteers who contribute their time to make sure our members are looked after at every level from the grass roots up thank you for your expertise and energy. It doesn't matter whether you give your time for an hour, a day or a week or a year, KNA could not function without you all so thank you. I also like to thank those who are retiring after many years of service assisting KNA in various roles. I would particularly like to say thank you to the KNA Executive, Patron Brenda Williams, Officials and Staff. They're pretty special people and it’s a privilege to work with you all. Thank you all.

KNA has become the success that it is because of all of all our volunteers - so a huge thank you to every single person who gives up their valuable time to netball.

6.2 Treasurer’s Report At the time of writing this report, the accounts are yet to be finalised. Main purchases this year for the Association have been additional marquees and trolleys for our rep teams, new uniforms for representative teams and subsidised uniforms for our KNA umpires. We have spent money upgrading the PA system at Canoon Road complex which will enable better communications to our members and control of the games. North Shore United (NSU) Premier League will have an impact on the accounts for KNA, however with sponsorship increasing for NSU, we hope to minimise the cost to our Association over the next few years. We have been working hard behind the scenes and have secured 50% funding from Ku-Ring-Gai council for the installation of shelters and seating at Canoon Road. The remainder of the funds required will come from the KNA Building Fund. We have ordered 3 Shelters to be installed at 3 locations around the courts to provide shelter for our members (as pictured below minus the slat sides)

We are also about to place an order for 19 x MADDOX Bench seats to be placed around the courts to provide much need extra seating for members

Other Works at Canoon Road Council have agreed to extend the sealed walkway in front of Courts 1 & 4 to provide a safe walking area for all our members to the lower courts, this work will be undertaken in conjunction with the works to the car park on courts 13-16, the court re-establishment on courts 9-12 and some keystone block retaining walls and planting, these works are hopefully due for completion before the start of season 2017 A special mention to Lee Field (KNA Admin Manager), who’s knowledge of KNA and all things netball has proved invaluable to me in meeting the requirements of the Treasurers role. Chris Haslem KNA Treasurer

6.3 Competition Report

MyNetball We will be liaising with Netball NSW to organise some training on the MyNetball System. I will ask the various Office Bearers what areas of the system they need training on. It is also important that we increase the level of cross training so that we are not so heavily reliant on individuals. Loraine Unicomb

Executive Member

GALA DAYS Our NetSetGo Gala Day was a great success again this year. We broke all the records catering for 90 teams. We had teams from Gosford, Hills, Norths, Baulkham Hills, Manly and this year Eastwood Ryde. From the feedback received at the end of the day 2017 will probably be just as big. Our Junior Carnival Day was also a great success with 61 teams taking part. As well as a large number of our own teams we welcomed teams from Gosford, Hills, Baulkham Hills and Woy Woy. The feedback was also very good for this carnival and we look forward to a larger response next season. We will be holding a ‘Fast Five Carnival in 2017’ as part of our 50 Years celebration to keep checking the web for more information. Brenda Williams

6.4 KNA All Stars – All Abilities Report With 17 registered players 2016 saw a slightly smaller group than in previous years but with no less enthusiasm. Continuing in the 2.10pm time slot was great for us as it allows maximum attendance. Deb and her daughters Stephanie and Erin coached the girls to an ever improving level of skill. Unfortunately Steph is unable to coach next year (moving away for Uni) so we will need to find another 1 or 2 volunteers for 2017. In May Deb invited two Hornsby Heights Cadet teams to play against us. We had two very entertaining, but close, tough games and the AllStars enjoyed every minute of it. Deb tried to repeat the experience later in the year with a rep team and another KNA Club but was unsuccessful in finding enough cadet players able to stay back the extra timeslot to play. This idea of regularly playing mainstream players needs to be addressed at the start of the 2017 season as it was so much fun for everyone and so valuable for the AllStars. The girls were very excited by a visit from Sonia Mkoloma for the filming of a promotional video for netball NSW. This was as a result of KNA winning the Australia Post Award for inclusion in 2015. Sonia was great fun and trained and played with some very excited netballers. The video is available to view on the KNA website. Two of our players, Sarah Martin and Tara Daniels, were selected as training partners for the Marie Little Shield State Team and NSW was successful for the second year running. The All Abilities carnival this year was hosted by The Illawarra Eagles as part of their annual carnival and we had a fabulous day in Wollongong. We played six games of netball so everyone slept well that night.

The NSW All Abilities Seminar and Gala day is coming up on November 6th to be held at Netball Central. No

doubt the KNA AllStars will acquit themselves well once again and have lots of fun. Trish Walker AllStars Co-ordinator

6.5 KNA Coaching Report In 2016 some Netball NSW courses became available online including the Foundation course which has been completed by a number of KNA coaches this season. Peter Havrlant, KNA Coaching Convenor presented a Face to Face Workshop on 15th May open to all Foundation Level coaches at Canoon Road Courts. Ten coaches attended with representation from North Turramurra, East Lindfield, Kissing Point, St Ives, Lindem and Water Street. The feedback was excellent and we had a request to run another workshop later in the season. Nadia Macdonald, NSU Premier League U20’s coach and Opens Defender was invited to present a coaching workshop at Abbotsleigh on Defence on 21st August. Fifteen coaches attended with representation from East Lindfield, Kissing Point, Lindem, St Ives and Wahroonga. This workshop covered defence including defensive footwork, defensive strategies from the pass, back line throw-ins, planning a coaching session. Nadia received excellent feedback for the session and it is recommended she presents again in 2017. Based on the feedback received from the Club Presidents Forum another course is being presented by Peter Havrlant on Session Planning at PLC Indoor on 30th October. This includes coaching a skill, the pitfalls of coaching drills instead of skills and practical application thereof. This will be a valuable Induction for new coaches for the 2017 season and a refresher for others. We have coaches from West Pymble, Kissing Point, Hornsby Heights and North Turramurra registered for the course to date. The Development Coaching Course scheduled for 31st July had to be postponed due to insufficient numbers. Some coaches that were registered for it have been transferred to the course at Netball Central in November. The Junior Representative training sessions for the 11’s Development Squad and 12’s to 15’s State Age teams were advertised on the website as open Skill sessions for coaches to attend and observe as learning opportunities. The Rep coaches whilst supportive were disappointed with attendance at the sessions which was low as it is difficult for coaches as times often clash with their training or other commitments. However, the coaches that did attend found the sessions helpful and some attended multiple sessions. We had twelve coaches attend this season and will aim to advertise and promote the training dates earlier in the season in 2017 based on feedback received. Session plans will be requested for coaches so as to maximise outcomes. The Coaches Corner Facebook page was established this year and is being utilised to promote courses and results. More can be done to better utilise this form of communication and we hope to see more coaches sharing coaching tips, photos and information on this page in 2017. Belinda Robson has done a great job managing and policing the content of the page. The KNA website was updated with the clinics regularly and Injury Prevention and the Knee Program has been added to the resources. Many coaches use online coaching resources now that these are readily available and don’t rely as much on the website to source training plans. The Presentation day award for Senior Coach of the year in 2016 was presented to Kylie ickerstaff from North Turramurra and Junior coaches of the Year to Sarah Kelly from Berowra and Francesca Rowlinson from St Ives.

6.6 Fixtures

Kelly Haslam took on the role of Fixtures Convenor this year, and with help from Stuart did the fixtures for the Winter Comp, including regrading after Day 5 and Spring Comp. Brenda Williams was able to do the Finals Series after some training from Netball NSW, when Kelly was unavailable due to personal reasons. Loraine Unicomb Executive Member

6.8 Grading Report Winter Competition: This season 347 teams competed from Net Set Go through to A grade . • Senior teams – 81 • Junior teams: 184 (10 years – Cadets) • Net Set Go: 82 (7-9 years) There was an increase in Open and NSG teams this year. During days 4 and 5, the Grading Committee watched/assessed then regraded 40 teams on the basis of the results up to and including day 5. In the 10 years another grade (10E) was created to balance the division.

Spring Competition: The Spring Competition is currently underway with 121 teams competing from Ladies Comp to 9/10 years. Team numbers are slightly down on 2015. • Ladies Comp – 55 teams, • Senior Mixed Comp – 21 teams, • Cadet Comp – 12 teams, • Inter Mixed – 7 teams, 1 • 1/12 Comp – 13 teams and • 9/10 Comp – 13 teams. Special thanks to the 2016 Committee: Pauline Jackson, Jen Maneschi, Jill Martin, Linda Mudadu and Fiona Rondeau. I would also like to thank Loraine Unicombe, Tanya Sinclair, Katie Bonjer, Tatjana Domazet, Kelly Haslem, Jo-Anne Perry and Anne Margalit for their continued support during the season. Kissane Gray KNA Grading Convenor (2016)

6.9 Ground’s Report Grounds ran well during 2016, with no significant problems to report. I would like to thank all members of the Grounds Committee, all club Grounds Coordinators, all club grounds duty volunteers, and the various other helpers for their hard work that made this possible. The Grounds Committee is currently understaffed in the afternoon; we have a real need for an additional committee member who can assist from around 12pm until the pack-up is done (typically 5:30-6:00pm). I ask all clubs to report this need to their members, and to encourage them to assist. Like all roles at KNA, it is both rewarding and essential work, and we would welcome any new volunteers who would like to join the committee. Equipment-wise, the following were the major purchases during 2016: • New ball pump. • 7 trolleys for rep tents. • Repairs to the PA system, including a new amplifier and 4 new speakers. • Electrical work to rebalance an overloaded circuit.

In addition, one of the BBQs will require replacing before the new season.

Thanks again to everyone who helped during 2016. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns, or any suggestions about how we can improve the way we organise the grounds.

6.10 Junior Development Report

NetSetGo Skills Report KNA Netsetgo Skills at Lofberg 2016 The KNA NSG skills program has been run in 2016 at Lofberg on Friday afternoons from 5-6pm. The program started after the April school holidays with a Come'n'Try day, then progressed into the weekly sessions, running parallel to the KNA day competition. On average there were approx. 55 active participants, with a few deregistered players (approx. 8) who did not turn up or decided to transfer to club programs.

The program saw players organised into 5 groups organised by age and friendships. There were approx twelve 8-10 year olds that form one group. All the other participants were 5-7 and organised into the remaining 4 groups. There were 7 regular coaches, including 2 KNA Allstars from our PWD teams. There were a couple more coaches who initially agreed to take part, however for different reasons, didn't start. This years coaches were students from local schools who were either completing their Duke of Edinburgh or studying PASS (Physical Activity and Sport Science). They were in years 9-11. In addition, some of the KNA reps helped out on occasion.

The MyNetball online system for registering seems to have been the biggest problem encountered this year. Hopefully this process will run more smoothly in 2017. It will help to have the information much earlier in the year.

6.12 Night Comp Report

The competition started on 12 September followed by a 2-week school holiday break. The Junior competition has 2 divisions in both 9/10 and 11/12 age group. To date, the junior competition has run smoothly with the help from Annabel Shortee in canteen and comp supervisors, Alix Toynton and Katie Bonjer. This year’s Inters Mixed and Girls competition was moved to Lofberg to Wednesday night at 6.00 pm and that has been working well. This year’s competition attracted a lower number of teams with 121 teams registering to play (down from last year’s 130). The most significant drop was in Junior competition by 8 teams and in Senior Mixed by 6 teams. The Cadet Mixed competition numbers increased by 6 teams whilst Ladies competition had a 1 team increase. The most significant change in this year’s competition was an introduction of “Umpire Your Own Game” by our Umpiring Convenor, Kirsten Stewart. Whilst initially hesitant, I have to admit that the new umpiring arrangement has been a great success. To date (after 4 weeks of play at the time of writing of this report), only 1 team had to forfeit due to a “no show” of an umpire. I would like to give special thanks to the following people who helped me organise this year’s competition and were very generous with their time and advice:- • Night Comp Registrars – Katie Bonjer and Tanya Sinclair • Grading Convenor – Kissane Gray • Umpiring Convenor – Kirsten Stewart • Fixtures – Kelly Haslem • Canteen at Canoon Road – Annabel Shortee • Secretary – Berwyn Collings

Big thank you to all Night Supervisors (Bridgette Belbin, Sarah Quirke, Alix Toynton and Katie Bonjer) for giving up their time to volunteer and help make this year’s competition successful. Some of the issues experienced to date with the 2016 Spring Night Competition are: • Reduction in team numbers, in particular Junior and Senior Mixed competition (as discussed earlier

in this report). • Late registrations. • Attempt to attract new volunteer for Wednesday night’s supervision at Lofberg was not successful • Competition had to be cancelled on Tuesday, 20 and Wednesday, 21 September due to faulty

floodlights. • The competition may extend for a week for these 2 nights, if teams express agreement. Recommendation for 2016 Night Competition • Continue with “Umpire Your Own Game” arrangements. • Continue with Intermediate Mixed division at Lofberg courts on Wednesday night. • Encourage more junior registrations And finally, a special mention goes to WP12 team (Senior Mixed 2 division) that is raising funds for girls’ education with a “Do It In A Dress” campaign. They took their campaign to the courts and attracted significant attention from the other players. If you are interested in supporting this cause, please visit their website at www.doitinadress.com/netbrawlers.

The following overview provides an update as to the key activity that has been conducted by NSU in 2016. NSU participated in the inaugural year of the NNSW Premier League competition. The season began with a pre-season competition designed to prepare the teams for the full competition ahead. The season that followed saw all 8 franchises play each other twice culminating in the finals series. Most notably both NSU teams made the finals which was a major achievement for the Franchise.

Page 16: KNA Annual General Meeting 2016 - Netball Australiakna.nsw.netball.com.au/files/39192/files/Meeting Minutes - Current... · KNA – AGM 19 November 2016 Page 4 Agenda KNA Annual General

KNA – AGM 19 November 2016 Page 16

• The Opens team played finished Fourth won their semi and lost Preliminary-final. • The 20’s played and came fourth lost semi-final

Both teams improved significantly throughout the season, displaying a solid work ethic and a commitment to improve. As their overall fitness improved, so did their results. Culturally the players, coaching staff and all involved contributed to building a solid foundation. The NSU culture will continue to strengthen in 2017 as a result. NSU was lucky to secure a new Strength and Conditioning Coach part way through the season, who made an immediate and positive impact on the players. Kelly Beahan has been the S&C for a number of professional cricket teams (Sydney Thunder) Cricket NSW, Cronulla Sharks, Australian Rugby among other roles.

Strategically, NSU has generated a lot of interest and goodwill. It has represented both member Associations in the very best light. NNSW has been very positive towards what our Franchise has achieved and the way we have delivered a more professional product and contribution to the competition. Key objectives and milestones from a strategic perspective were all achieved and as such the franchise is positioned well for future success. NSU’s contribution to the ongoing skills development of KNA and NSNA juniors was well received with a number of well attended clinics throughout the year. The management team has worked well behind the scenes and to ensure the success of NSU. The contribution of the following personnel is acknowledged: Board members: Nick Hermann, Jo Anne Perry, Glenys Perini, Jenny Gage Trail, Adam

Oakes Coaching staff: Julie Fitzgerald as Director of Coaching with Coaches - Bec Bulley and

Colleen Mitchell (Opens) and Nardia McDonald, Leonie Stewart-Wicks (20s) Managers: Jan Troy (Opens) and Tanya (20s)

Sponsors and Supporters:

Sydney Netball Shop, Century 21 St Ives, Physio and Sports Injury Clinic North Sydney, MySports Tape, Anthony Khoury Photography, Pymble Ladies College, Barker College

6.15 Registrar Report - Seniors

Tanya was assisted this year by Leisa Williams as Junior Registrar Assistant and Nicole Hermann as Senior Registrar Assistant. Tanya did a great job this year, stepping up and filling the gaps in her knowledge, particularly in the setup of the online registration for NSG Skills. It would be great if we can find a Junior Registrar to take the additional burden off Tanya, particularly on Saturday mornings.

6.18 Rep Liaison Officer’s Report

I stepped into the role of Rep Liaison Officer for 2016 after the departure of Lynne Pinker who had held the role for many years and did an outstanding job. It was a steep learning curve and I would like to thank Stuart Moore, Keri Sheraton and Anne Margalit for their guidance and support. I am pleased to report that a great season was had by both the Junior and Senior Representatives, who produced some outstanding results as you will see from the Junior and Senior Rep Selection Convenor reports. The year commenced with the requirement to purchase and fit out all junior squads with new dresses. Junior dresses are supplied under a rental program and these dresses are refreshed every 3 years. This was a rather large and time consuming job and I must thank Sydney Netball Shop, Nicole Hermann and the State Age Managers Tracy Hall, Robyn Bramwell, Louise Smit and Sharon Easten for all of their assistance and patience during this process. KNA hosted two selection round robins this year. The first was held in November and a further round robin was held in February for the 12 year and 13 year State Age selections. These round robins were both well attended and feedback from other associations was exceptionally positive. Our development teams and talent teams form an important part of our representative program each year. Development of players in both the junior and senior level is critical to the future of our representative program. I would also like to thank, Andrew Gilbert for his role as tent co-ordinator at carnivals, always first at carnivals ensuring we had good position and enough space for all our tents. Nicole Hermann for running the BBQ roster, Brenda Williams and Nicole Hermann for their assistance with the frock shop on Saturdays and Brenda, Nicole, Tracy and Louise for helping with stock take this year. A very special thank you from the rep committee goes to Shauna Winchester and the wonderful umpiring committee and their umpires. The support offered is second to none and we could not run such a successful program without you. The Rep Liaison committee is always looking for volunteers, so if you feel you can be of assistance and would like to contribute to the rep program we would love to hear from you. Angela Walker KNA Rep Liaison Officer

6.19 Rep Selection Convenor’s Report - Seniors This year KNA entered 3 teams in the inaugural NNSW Metro League Competition that replaced the State League competition. KNA had teams in Divisions 1, 3 and 5. We contested the State Championships in the Opens and 17s Divisions and two Senior teams are currently playing in the NNSW Night Interdistrict competition in Divisions 2, and 7.

Metro League With the commencement of Premier League in 2016 the Metro League Competition sits as the next tier of competition and was made up of six divisions. Several KNA junior players had made the North Shore United Premier League teams and so, like many associations, we found we had three teams for Metro League 2016. Our Division 1 team showed steady improvement through the year. They had a few challenges with player injuries and absences for various commitments however players from our second Division 3 team were more than willing to grab the chances offered to play with the older girls in this division. Our players were well supported by their Premier League team mates who turned up most weeks to cheer on the girls even though they could not play themselves. At the end of the rounds KNA were sitting fourth and went into the finals series still with injury concerns. Despite this, KNA moved through winning their Semi Final in a last minute steal from Norths and then St George in the Final and finally put together a fantastic Grand Final performance to beat the Minor Premiers Eastwood –Ryde. Congratulations to Lisa, Kristen, Kathy and all the girls. Our 2

nd ML team competed in Division 3 – this team consisted of talented players in their first year in

seniors and a few players with a few years experience of Senior reps but largely a young team. They were out of the blocks and leading the division early on however some improvement in other teams and some injuries in our own ranks made the second round more difficult. Thank you to the Div 5 players that supported our Div 3 team on many occasions. This team came 4

th at the end of the rounds and lost their

Semi Final to Central Coast in a hard fought match. This was a great result for a team with many players just out of the junior ranks. Our 3

rd team consisted of players moving from juniors to seniors with a few who had a year or two’s

experience at Senior level. This team built through the season and came home very strongly to make the Semi Finals. They too went out in a tough match but demonstrated how much they had learned over the season. Congratulations to all players, coaches and managers on a great season. State Championships In 2016 we entered two teams in the State Championships. Both teams performed very well over the grueling three day event. Our Opens team had a strong core with a few support players appearing on different days to provide some relief. They were contenders for the title all the way and ultimately finished in third position. Our 17s team were attempting to defend their State Champions title won in 2015. Following three days of tough competition our 17s finished in equal first position on points but were eventually awarded third position following a goal count back. Congratulations to all of our players, coaches and managers and thank – you to all of our support team that ensure all goes smoothly over these weekends Night Interdistrict: We have two teams currently playing in the Night Interdistrict competition in Divs 2 and 7. Our 2017 15s squad is also competing in Division 9. 2017 Metro League As this season draws to a close we begin preparations for the 2017 season with trials underway for our 2017 Metro League teams. I would again like to thank my selection team - Joy Punch, Trish Handsaker and Suzanne Teulan who all enjoyed watching the improvements in players and teams over the season.

A further thank you to all of those who work so hard to ensure our teams had a successful season. These people include Lee Field, Jo-Anne Perry, Stuart Moore, Angela Walker and her committee, the Appointments Panel and all the umpires who happily umpire for us at selection trials, trial matches and fulfil our commitments at Metro League, State Championships and NID. Thanks also to the Executive for their support of the Senior Rep Program. We are looking forward to continuing to build a successful Senior Rep Program in 2017. Team Lists 2016: Metro League

I would like to thank all of the people involved in the representative program Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Managers, Selectors, Umpires and Appointments Panel All these people put in a huge amount of time and effort and without the support of these people KNA would not be able to run a Representative program. I would also like to congratulate the players, not only for their performance on the court but also off the court. KNA is proud of all the girls that represented the association throughout the year This year I was so impressed with the camaraderie shown by KNA. It was amazing to see the amount of parents not only supporting their daughters but also cheering on the other teams at carnivals and State Age. Stuart Moore Junior Rep Selection Convenor to June 2016 Junior Rep Selection Convenor’s Report (from June 2016 season) I was appointed to the Role of Junior Rep Selection Convenor to start the new 2017 Rep Season. Following the appointment of Coaches, Selectors were placed in age groups allowing for fair distribution of Club affiliation. We have not finished trials for any age groups in full as yet, hence no rep player list as this stage. NID has commenced after a difficult start and the process going forward and time frame will need to be reviewed.

As the season progresses, I will endeavor to write policies and procedures to ensure a smooth hand over in future years and to provide clear but flexible guidelines. An effective program must demonstrate the

flexibility to allow for the development of individuals within teams and teams as a whole but also enough structure to ensure all talent within KNA is catered for. Communication is another aspect within the program that I will be developing. Transparent, accurate and prompt information is vital to gaining the support the netball community and the overall perception of fairness within our selection process. I would like to thank my Rep Committee and Selection Panel for their valued advice and explaining many structures. Feedback is also vital for the continued development of any successful programme and will be encouraging this from parents, players and the association. 6.21 Umpire Convenor’s Report

In 2016, the Umpires Committee faced a number of challenges, namely a small committee and the introduction of the new 2016 INF Rules. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of Shauna, Ken, Jess, India, Jaimee, Cathy and Kaitlyn for their dedication, efforts and willingness to share their time and expertise in making 2016 a successful year. The following initiatives and program were implemented and/or continued in 2016: 1. Liaison with Club Convenors - the Committee worked closely with the Club Convenors

during the year. The Club Convenors have continued to do a fantastic job in coaching and mentoring their junior umpires each week which has resulted in a large cohort of umpires moving through the three district badge levels. They are to be commended.

2. Umpire Training: 2.1 New Umpires Day was held on Saturday 5 March 2016 and was attended by

approximately 90 new umpires. 2.2 Alan Melville presented the new rules at a forum for all umpires, coaches and

managers held on 11 March 2016.

3. NUDG Programme:

3.1 Information sessions for aspiring National umpires were held during the season; 3.2 Potential National umpires were identified and coaching, mentoring and the provision

of opportunities to umpire at higher levels were provided resulting in a pleasing number of National C and National B badges awarded.

4. Allocations – the committee worked closely with Club Convenors to ensure that umpires

were allocated appropriately to games and that opportunities were provided for umpires to be stretched and improved.

5. Carnivals, Rep training games and Trials – sufficient and suitable umpires were available as required. Generally it was most difficult to find umpires for the carnivals later in the calendar (particularly Baulkham Hills and Campbelltown). The Committee will consider reintroducing as a prerequisite for consideration for a national badge a requirement to attend at least one carnival in the 2017 season

KNA – AGM 19 November 2016 Page 27

6. New Uniforms - New Jackets and shirts were made available to the National Umpires and

were well received. This enabled us to sell the old stock to District umpires, helping to incorporate those umpires into “team white”.There were a number of challenges this year, the solution to which will continue to be developed in 2017; namely:

6 New Rules –There continues to be some confusion concerning the new rules around injury and blood. We will implement further training in 2017 for Umpires and Coaches to ensure that all participants are clear on what is required.

7 Player behaviour. We are still experiencing issues with unsportsmanlike behaviour and abuse of umpires. We will implement further training for umpires in relation to game management in accordance with the new rules but also request that Clubs continue to reinforce the Player Code of Conduct with all their teams.

8 Smiley programme – due to the small committee it was not possible to implement this programme in 2016. We hope to reintroduce it again in 2017.

Finally, I would like to congratulate Shauna Winchester, Jess Clay and Nicky Davis who were each allocated a Metro League Semi-final in 2016, and to Shauna who was allocated as a reserve for a Metro League Final and the Metro League 1 Grand Final. Kirsten Stewart

6.22 Web Administrator’s Report

The website address for KNA is www.kna.nsw.netball.com.au

The website was very stable this year, with no known outages. We upgraded our allocated space to 150mb on the website, and continue to remain well under the limit. We used the survey tool KwikSurveys for most Rep team nominations for 2016, however the subscription expired for the Senior Rep nominations for Metro League 2017, so we have moved all our nomination forms to Google Forms. Google Forms is a free tool, which offers similar capability. This year KNA sent out a total of 18 e-mails to their membership database (Date range: December 1st 2015 – October 22nd 2016). These were: 4 - KNA Newsletters 3 - Messages from our Sponsors 2 - Regarding the KMC Plan of Management 9 - General messages Statistics (total from the above 18 mail-outs):
