Conference Programme
Megacities and Film:Southeast Asia on Screen
29-31 January 2010
Ludwigsburg Film Conference 2010
Bangkok, Singapore, Jakarta – the Ludwigsburg Film Conference 2010 focuses on Southeast Asian megacities and their lmic representation. Researchers from dierent countries present their views on megacities in contemporary lmmaking. The papers address cinematic constructions and representations of urban life as well as questions of national identity and cultural diversity.
Which development show the metropolises of Southeast Asia as living environments and spaces of cinematographic storytelling? In what way does the city become a projection for hopes and longing, and what role does it play as a site of despair and loneli-ness? What local singularities, traditional elements and interna-tional trends can be identied in the cinematic language? In what way do the lms create a specic image of the (cinematic) city?
The theoretical debate is accompanied by movie screenings, workshops, a panel discussion on trends in Southeast Asian lm-making and a lm party with buet, lms and music.
