of March, 2019/2562

The 2018 School Year is now drawing to a close. This week we have had

Secondary exams and the Primary and Kindergarten have been finishing off

their assessments for the year. Next week, on Wednesday, Thursday and

Friday we have SPD’s [Teacher Interviews] and I would encourage all parents

to take this opportunity to meet with the teachers and discuss the progress of

their child here at school. Appointments for this are essential and can be made

outside the Accounting Office here at school.

We held a special graduation dinner for our graduating Secondary 6 Class.

This was held at the Pullman Hotel on the evening of the 21st of February. I

would personally like to congratulate all the graduates of Secondary 6 and

especially congratulate this year’s Dux , Naphasorn Yodsanga [Elle] and the

Proxime Accessit , Malinee Boonpa [Som] on their results. It is always a

special occasion to farewell our graduating students and I wish them all the

very best for their future.

The Bai Si Ceremony was held at school on the 14th

and this was the chance

for the Secondary students to say farewell to Secondary 6. I would like to

thank Secondary 4 for organizing the Bai Si and Secondary 5 for organizing

the graduating dinner.

This week our senior primary students have travelled to Chiang Khan. They have had a very enjoyable trip and have had

a lot of learning opportunities.

The school held a successful Open Day with a large number of visitors attending. There were a lot of performances and

displays of work from our students. It is always great to see the performances of the students and the fact it covered a wide

range of subjects and skill areas. Many thanks to A.Num, A.Kamol, A Jumpee, A. Dtom and their teams who worked hard

to make this day the success it was. It is not easy to co-ordinate everything for such a busy day and I would like to offer my

personal thanks to all involved.

I would like to wish our students travelling to New Zealand as part of the school camp there to have a safe and happy trip.

Enjoy your time there and make the most of all the exciting opportunities that are to be had. I would also like to wish A

Mai a happy and safe trip and I look forward to her reporting back to the school about her trip.

I would like to give special thanks to all the staff here at school for their dedication and hard work in teaching our students

to become good citizens of Thailand. All staff, from the kitchen to the administration staff provide vital services to keep

our school operating and safe.

I would like to wish everybody a happy, safe and relaxing holiday. Enjoy the times with family and get refreshed for the

new academic year. It is important to note that the school will recommence Tuesday the 7th

of May as the Monday is a

national holiday to celebrate the coronation of King Rama X.

Dux

Congratulations go to Naphasorn Yodsanga [Elle] who was recognized as Dux of

KKVS for the 2018 school year. Elle came to us in Secondary 1 from Chum Pae.

She studied at KKVS until she completed Secondary 4. At this point she spent

one year in Canada. Upon her return to Khon Kaen she entered Secondary 5

and finished her Secondary 6 year this year. This year she got first place in

Science, Mathematics, Occ Tech, Accounting, Geography, Chinese Extension,

Business Chinese, English, Computers, Thai Language, World Religion, Asian

Studies, Health and Economics. She also got merits in Astronomy, World

History, Thai Dance and Physical Education. Next year she intends to study

accounting at Chulalongkorn University.

Proxime Accesit

This award is given to the second top academic student for the graduating class.

This year the award goes to Malinee Boonpa [Som]. Som had been studying at

Mahathai School here in Khon Kaen and then went to study in Sydney,

Australia. Whe she returned she enrolled in Secondary 4 at KKVS. This year

she got first place in Chemistry, Astronomy, Art and Biology and a merit in

Physics, Geography, English, Thai Language, Thai Dance and World Religion.

She plans to go to university in Australia. Well done!

Bai Si The Bai Si is a ceremony held to allow the Secondary 6 students to be farewelled by the staff and the rest of Secondary.

This year the event was organized by

Secondary 4 and was held on the 14th

of

February at the end of the Secondary 6

exams. This event included songs, dances

and the tying of wrists.

พธบายศรสขวญซงถอเปนการอ าลานกเรยนชนมธยมศกษาปท 6 ทกคนทส าเรจการศกษาในปนจดขนในวนท 14 กมภาพนธ 2562 หลงจากทชนมธยมศกษาปท 6 ไดเสรจสนการทดสอบทงหมดแลว นกเรยนชนมธยมศกษาปท 4 เปนผทรบผดชอบเตรยมงานบายศรน ในงานนมการรองเพลง การร าไทย และการผกขอมอใหกบนกเรยนชนมธยมศกษาปท 6 ทกคน เพอความสรมงคล และใหมความเจรญกาวหนาตอไป

Graduation Dinner

In a departure from normal procedure the Secondary 6 students held a graduation Dinner instead of the normal Prom.

The dinner was held at the Pullman Hotel on the 21st of February. It was attended by the students, staff, parents and the

secondary 5 and 6 students. The graduation certificates were presented and the academic awards were handed out. This

was a good opportunity for parents to become involved as well. The evening went very well and many thanks must go to A

Gift and the Secondary 5 class who organized the evening and also decorated the room for the function.

Senior Primary Trip

This week the

senior primary

classes went on

a trip to Chiang

Khan. On the

way there they

visited a

cultural

museum which

was excellent.

They then

travelled on to

the hotel which

overlooked the

Mekong River

and Laos. The

group then had

a series of

activities that

they took part

in. Before

dinner

everyone went

to a resort to

have a swim. They had a special treasure hunt using digital technology. A highlight of the trip was a 2 hour cruise on the

Mekong River. This was a fun way to finish the school year. Many thanks to the teachers who organized the trip and

helped by supervising.

Private Teacher Award On 16

th February A. Ratanaporn received the “Honor Private Teacher Award” at the Private Education Academic

Competition Fair. This award was decided by Committee of Private Education Association which selects only 3 teachers

from each education zone The main criteria are they need to work very hard to develop private school education for at

least 35 years. Big congratulations to Ajarn, she deserved it.

In January A. Ratanaporn received an honor award

from The Khon Kaen Chamber of Commerce for

the best businesswoman in running school business.

There are only 3 private schools in Khon Kaen who have received this award. Congratulations!

Academic Competition. They were representatives of Khon Kaen province to compete at this regional level which is

KKVS Primary Multi-sport Competition

February Primary held a multi-sport competition on an off-road course out in front of the school;

All students took part in the run event and a good number took part in the cycle event.

It’s that time of year ….

When all the students are busy preparing for and taking their end of semester and end of school year exams. Pictured here

are the whole of Secondary One, unusually together in one class for English. It’s also unusual that they are all quiet!

The students are very focused as they are taking their first formal Cambridge Progression listening exam, ahead of the

regular exams week. You may think this would be quite easy, after all, listening is something we all do every day isn’t it?

But here they have to pick out specific details and tune in to a variety of unfamiliar accents taking on a range of topics. We

wish them every success in this and all their exams.

We’ve been chosen!/ เราคอผถกเลอก

KKVS was recently contacted to see if we

would be able and willing to participate in

the pre-testing of future exam papers for the

Cambridge Primary Checkpoint examinations

2020. A. Gerry had a very short time to act.

Parents had to be contacted to get their

approval, as these tests will take place at the

beginning of the upcoming holiday. The

response from parents was fantastic, even at

this late stage with may having already made

holiday plans, most were able to agree to

bring their child to school on Monday 18th

March for the day. After A. Gerry confirmed

our participation it was still not sure that we

would be included. However, we have this

week been advised that KKVS has been

selected to participate in the process.

The students involved are from Primary 6

who have already been entered for the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint English as a Second Language April 2019 exams.

Why would they want to put themselves in for even more exams? Well, being included in this pre-testing exercise means

they will have an opportunity to practice for their real exams under full Cambridge Assessment International Education

conditions, which will ensure that they are familiar with the whole process and should also help them to be more at ease

and better prepared on the day of their own exams. Wishing you success P6 students!

Chinese Class Activities

Kindergarten

In Ajarn Wandee’s Chinese class, the K3/1 kids welcomed the Pig Year by making paper pigs. The children folded pink

papers to make the face of a pig, then, glued the pig’s eyes, nose and mouth onto the face. This activity exposed children to

the Chinese culture and enhanced their psychomotor skills. Apart from this, the children also added a new Chinese

vocabulary, 猪 which means pig. The children had exciting moments and were energetic during the activity.

ในชนเรยนวชาภาษาจนของระดบอนบาล 3/1 นกเรยนพบกระดาษเปนรปหนาหม ใหเขากบปหม เดกๆ ฝกท าเองทกขนตอนทงตดตา จมก ปาก ดวยตวเอง เดกๆ ไดเรยนรเกยวกบเทศกาลตรษจนไปพรอมๆ กบการท ากจกรรมน นอกจากนยงไดเรยนรค าศพทภาษาจนทมความหมายวา “หม” เดกๆ สนกและตนเตนกบการท ากจกรรมนมาก

Primary One

In Ajarn Wandee’s Chinese class, the Primary One kids welcomed the Pig Year by making paper lanterns using red

packets and papers. This activity exposed children to the Chinese culture especially how the Chinese people decorate their

houses to welcome the Chinese New Year. Beside this, the children also enhanced their psychomotor skills. The children

had exciting moments and were energetic during the activity. It feels good to see the children helping each other during the

activity!

Primary Three

In Ajarn Wandee’s Chinese class, the Primary Three kids welcomed the Pig Year by making Chinese New Year couplets,

which the Chinese people use to decorate their houses. Each child wrote a Chinese couplet and beautify their work. This

activity not only expose children to the Chinese culture, but also encourage creativity. The children had exciting moments

and were energetic during the activity.

ประเพณของชาวจนทจะมเครองลางตกแตงอาคารบานเรองในชวงเทศกาลตรษจน เดกๆ แตละคนตกแตงเครองลางของตวเองอยางสวยงาม กจกรรมนไมเพยงแตชวยใหเดกๆ ไดเรยนรวฒนธรรมจน แตยงไดฝกความคดสรางสรรค เดกๆ ตนเตนและสนกมากๆ ทไดท ากจกรรมน

Secondary (featuring A.Peter Mills)

To celebrate the culture of the Chinese people the English classes joined in with some fun activities on Friday 8th

February.

Small groups of students eagerly competed to be the first to cooperatively complete their tasks.

The first challenge was to read a text with a large number of words missing. They had to choose the best option from a list

of words to complete the text about Chinese New Year celebrations and traditions.

In the second activity students had a set of animal symbols and a set of characteristics, all part of the Chinese zodiac. The

task was to match an animal with its characteristics by solving a cryptic clue.

The students were all very involved in the lesson, as you can see in the photos! and enjoyed learning about the most

important event in the Chinese calendar.

เพอเปนการเฉลมฉลองเทศกาลตรษจน ในชนเรยนวชาภาษาองกฤษของระดบมธยมศกษา เมอวนท 8 กมภาพนธ เดกๆ แบงกลมออกเปนกลมยอยเพอแขงกนวากลมไหนจะท างานเสรจกอนกน

กจกรรมแรก คอ การอานขอความ และหาค าทหายไป แตละกลมตองเลอกค าศพท จากรายการค าศพททเกยวกบการเฉลมฉลองและวฒนธรรมจน

กจกรรมทสอง แตละกลมจะไดรปสตวทแสดงถงสญลกษณ ของจกราศรตางๆ ในภาษาจน แลวใหจบครปกบค าศพท โดยดจากค าใบทใหมา

เดกๆ ทกคนรวมท ากจกรรมอยางสนกสนาน นอกจากนเดกๆ ยงไดเรยนรวนส าคญของประเทศจนตามปฏทนจนอกดวย

Open Day

On the 28th

of February the school held an Open Day where we showcased the work that students had completed along

with presenting items for people to watch. Display tents held work that had been done by students at school this semester.

On the stage musical, dance and Physical Education presentations were given by various levels of the school. Many thanks

go to the teachers of the performing arts for their hard work and also the staff and students in general who worked hard

to make the day a success.

การแสดงบนเวทจากนกเรยนหลายระดบชน อาทเชน รองเพลง จนตลลา หรอการแสดงเทควนโด จากแผนกพละศกษากตาม ขอขอบคณ คณครทกทานทชวยฝกซอมและทมเทชวยเหลอในการแสดงทกชดเปนอยางด รวมถงเจาหนาทและนกเรยนทวไปทรวมกนท างานหนกจนงานนส าเรจลลวงดวยด

O-Net Tests

On the 2nd

and 3rd

of March our secondary 6 students had their O-Net tests at a government school in Khon Kaen. These

results will be used as part of the generation of a GPA grade for the students to use for entry into universities. Thank you

to A Gift and A Nui who helped supervise the students on both days.

Kindergarten Newsletter

Recently in Kindergarten we finished our project approach topics. The topics were covered

for 3 weeks and each class covered a different topic.

Last week we also celebrated Grandparents day. We would like to extend a big

thank you to all the Grandparents who were able to join us for a special morning or afternoon

tea. The children had a great time with you all. They are so lucky to have such special and

loving Grandparents in their lives.

K3/1 and K3/2

กจกรรมการเรยนการสอนระดบอนบาล ๓/๑ และ ๓/๒

Over the past two weeks K3 have been taking visits to Primary 1. During these visits the

children were able to take part in both Thai and English classes. In class, the children were

buddied up with a student from P1, who they worked alongside with. K3 also had the

opportunity to eat morning tea with P1 and have lunch down in the main school canteen. These

visits were for the children in K3 to become familiar with the routines of P1 and also the

wider school environment. The children enjoyed their time thoroughly and were very happy to

meet and work alongside the children in P1. We hope they are looking forward to being in P1

next semester!

we integrate further as a Cambridge School there will be times when events, both intensive preparation classes and

actual examinations, are scheduled during school holidays, and we ask for your understanding and cooperation, in
