(32 Lessons)
Objectives
Speaking:
1. Students will recognize that talk is an important tool for communicating, thinking and learning

Theme: The theme of this unit is surrounded by the idea of taking a journey. Students will be reading the novel Keeper ‘N Me by Richard Wagamese. Students will be expected to read the novel, complete vocabulary lists and two quizzes. Students will also working with a group to complete a poster presentation. An important theme in this unit is about Elders and their impact on younger people. Elders are important, and students will have a chance to interview an Elder/Senior for the Learning about an Elder/Senior Assignment. This unit ties in great with the last two units because it explores the issues of growing up and aging. Students will explore their own lives, and be able to reflect on their own journeys in life so far related to the novel.

-Introduce Novel Keeper ‘N Me by Richard Wagamese to students
-Talk about author and novel
-Read prologue together as a class
-Hand out the Keep Me Interested Poster Presentation Assignment (See Appendix A)

Within a group context, your task is to research, gather information and deliver a poster board presentation to the class.
As preparation for our novel study, Keeper ‘N Me, you will research a Canadian First Nations cultural group from the following list:
