CANOE JOURNEY for Youth Ongoing

The feast is in honour of the youth who participated in the Canoe Journey
workshop that took place in March. All youth who participated, theirfamilies, and interested community members are invited.
Musicians or DJs interested in playing for the dance can submit quotes to
Teri Forster at Kitsumkalum Health. Drop by the office or email her at

regardingpossiblecontaminationfrom
radioactivefalloutcomingfromthetroubledJapanesenuclearreactors.
Thefollowinginformationwasreceivedfromassociateprofessor,Krzysztof
StarostaofSimonFraserUniversity,viaGwaaiEdenshaw,regardingtheradiation
levelsofseaweedonthewestcoastof
VancouverIsland.
Mr.Starostareceivedandanalyzed
seaweedtakenfromtwolocations:OneinNorthVancouverattheSeaBusTerminal
andanothernearBamfieldonVancouverIsland.
TheseaweedwascollectedbetweenMarch15and28andthefollowingexamples
describelevelsequivalenttothosefound
intheseaweedsamples.
Consuming1kgofdriedseaweedwouldexposeyoutotheamountof
radiationthatyouwouldreceive
duringadentalx-ray.
Ifyouconsumed2kgofdriedseaweedperdayyourexposurewouldbenearlyequaltowhatyou
wouldreceiveonanydayfrom
naturalsources.
