Before you Begin Legal Disclaimer The recommendations in this eBook aren’t medical guidelines or medical advice and are for educational purposes only. You should consult your doctor or qualified medical practitioner before continuing to exercise on injured body parts. This material is only intended to help customers correctly apply the kinesiology tape product, and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, injury, or medical condition.

Safety Guidelines Do not use kinesiology tape if you are allergic to it or any of its components. If you have previously had a reaction to kinesiology tape, please consult a doctor before use. Customers who may have had reactions to other adhesives like bandages, or customers with skin sensitivities or other allergies, are encouraged to make a test patch out of a 1 inch square of this tape, and apply it to the inner wrist area of their arm. Allow the adhesive to remain in contact with the skin for 15 minutes. If you notice any irritation or adverse affects, immediately discontinue use and seek medical attention.

For all customers, if any adverse symptoms occur while wearing the tape, immediately discontinue use, wash the affected area, and seek medical attention.

Proper use of the tape, including stretching at the ends of the segment is, in most cases, all that is needed to avoid irritation.

Never use kinesiology tape on others that have impaired communication ability, or on open wounds, infections, cancer, vascular conditions, or compromised kidney or liver function.’

Make sure your skin is clean and free of oils, and completely dry before applying kinesiology tape. Ideally, the application site will be hairless, but not freshly shaven. The tape takes 90 minutes to fully adhere to the skin, at which time it becomes effective.

Take heed of the edges of the tape, and avoid abrasion or rubbing them, especially with a hand or towel, as this can cause the tape to release prematurely.

We recommend fractionated coconut oil to remove kinesiology tape, and break down the adhesive.

Getting Started Using your 321 STRONG Kinesiology Tape

Kinesiology tape is used to reduce pain and increase mobility after athletic injury. The tape’s amazing properties come from it’s ability to stretch to 160% of its original length. After applying stretched tape to your skin, the tape wants to shrink back to its original length, which pulls on the skin, wrinkling it, and lifting off of the muscles and fascia beneath. Kinesiology tape has the same thickness and stretchiness as human skin, which is why it allows for such great range of motion, while also providing stabilization.

Kinesiology tape works to speed recovery after injury by lifting the skin, creating a channel below it, which increases blood flow to the affected area, and encourages circulation of lymphatic fluids – responsible for swelling. The added benefit of this lifting is the relief from pressure against the body’s pain receptor nerves.

To properly apply kinesiology tape, rub it back and forth after application, while applying firm pressure. Be careful not to peel up the corners as you do so. This rubbing and pressing will ensure a good adhesion. Remember, it takes 90 minutes to completely adhere, so don’t plan to exercise immediately after taping.

Your kinesiology tape is precut into strips, so you won’t have to buy any special scissors to use it, just peel and stick!

The primary goal in taping an ankle is to provide some support to the affected area, without restricting range of motion. Unlike a brace, the kinesiology tape will allow for activity to be resumed, because the ankle is still allowed to bend and straighten. The tape can also help reduce swelling in the area. Run the first piece of tape down the outer side of your ankle, under the foot, and then ending on the top of the foot. Apply the second piece of tape like a bowtie, horizontally in the back of the ankle, and making a X in the front of the ankle. Pull both pieces of tape to a 50% stretch, but do not stretch the last inch on either end.

The main objective when taping a calf injury is to lift the skin off the muscle, to create a better environment for fluids to drain, and reduce inflammation and pain. We’re going to use two strips, like a plus sign, +. Run the first vertically, at 50% stretch, expect for the last inch of tape. Press firmly and rub the tape on securely. Do the same, but running horizontally, for the second strip. The first strip runs between your inner knee, and ankle, the second strip sill go all the way around your leg, directly over the calf muscle.

For lower back pain, we are going to make an H with the tape, using three strips. This is a decompression technique for the lumbar area. Rather than another + style application, we are going to use two verticals, to surround the spine on either side. During the application of the two vertical strips, bend forward slightly. Application needs to be done by a partner, as you cannot properly apply tape to your own back! Press firmly and rub the tape on securely. Straighten out the back for the application of the horizontal strip. Apply all three strips of tape at 50% stretch, except for the last inch on each end.

The shoulder is one of the most common applications of kinesiology tape, seen on athletes all the time. In order to do decompression for shoulder pain, we’re going to use two strips, and overlap them to make a football shape over the shoulder, like this, ().Press firmly and rub the tape on securely. Apply both strips of tape at 50% stretch, except for the last inch on each end.

Taping for neck pain is similar to taping for the lumbar – we’re going to use two strips running in parallel, like the number 11, on either side of the spine. We’re going to stay low on the neck, to avoid the fine hairs present below the hair line. Stretch the tape in the middle (50%) but don’t stretch the ends. Rub the tape to activate adhesion.

Taping for plantar fasciitis is simple. Bend the ankle as much as possible, toes toward the knees. Start the first strip on the bottom of the foot, at the base of the toes, apply two inches with no stretch, then 50% stretch for the middle of the tape, and after you pass the heel, no more stretch on the tape. For the second strip, we are going to apply it in a perpendicular fashion. Start on the top of the foot, with no stretch. As you get to the bottom of the foot, start applying 50% stretch until you begin to cross past the bottom of the foot on the other side. Revert to no stretch as you apply the tape to the other side of the top of the foot.

General taping of the knee is similar to the taping for the shoulder. We are going to make a football shape, (), around the knee cap, on the inside and the outside of the knee. Stretch the tape in the middle (50%) but don’t stretch the ends. Rub the tape to activate adhesion.

Tennis elbow affects more than just tennis players, and is one of the trickier techniques, so we saved it for last! Our primary goal is to lift the skin off of the affected area to reduce inflammation and pain. We’re going to use two strips, the first running in line with the arm, from the back of the triceps, and snaking down to the outer forearm. The second strip will run perpendicular, across the thickest part of your forearm, two inches down from your elbow. Stretch the tape in the middle (50%) but don’t stretch the ends. Rub the tape to activate adhesion.
