I am enjoying getting to know your children and their sweet, fun personalities. Your child’s book log is in their SAFARI notebook. Please read 5 out of 7 nights a week for 15 minutes and record the books read. These logs will be checked every Monday morning. This is the only homework for this week. I will send guided reading books home starting tomorrow or Wednesday. One of your child’s books that they read each night should be this book. We will be taking the MAP test Tuesday- Friday. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a good breakfast each morning. Thank you! I use Remind 101 to send text messages throughout the year. A big thank you to those that have already signed up. Please text (216) 245-4480 and write the message @godbey14 to join. Thank you! We will be collecting Box Tops this year. What We Are LearningSkills:Sight words (at, that, can, an, than)Rhyming words1.RFS.3g I can read first grade sight words. I can identify rhyming words.

Reading: The students will continue to practice rituals and routines of Readers Workshop. They will learn our five daily stations (Guided Reading with the teacher, Read to Self, Work on Writing, Word Work, and Listen to Reading) and what is expected at each station. We will also read rhyming books during shared reading and identify rhyming words. Writing: We will work on 5 Star sentences. A 5 Star sentence includes correct capitalization, punctuation, neatness, good word choice, and spelling. We encourage students to spell sight words and other words located in the room correctly. However, other words should be stretched out to include the sounds they hear. It is very important for a child to stretch out their words on their own and then keep going with their writing. Correct spelling comes as they become better readers and progress with their phonics skills. 1.W.3 I can write a personal narrative and recount two sequenced events. Math:We will begin Chapter 2: Number Bonds. Students will learn the following vocabulary: part, whole, and number bond. They will learn that two numbers (two parts) make a whole. 1.OA.8: I can determine the unknown whole number in an addition equation relating three whole numbers.
