balloonhewasthoughttobein.Ichosetouseonelarge,lowercasebtosignifythe

alliterationinthephraseandtoavoidredundency.Ialsowantedtomakeitthe

centerofattention,soImadeitthebiggestletterinthedesign,madeittheonly

letterwithcolor,andputathickstrokearoundit.Ialsodrewacurvinglinefromthe

circleinthemiddleofthebsothatitlookslikeaballoon.

WarInIraq

Icreatedthislogobecauseofthemajor,on-goingcoverageofthewarinIraq.Ichose

arough-lookingfontforIraqtosignifytheunpleasantnessesthepeopleinareasofwarareexperiencing.Ihadafewreasonsforthechoiceincolor.Iwantedthislogo

toincludeapatriotictheme,soImadeitred,white,andblue.Warisredtosignifythebloodshedofwar.Inisblackbecauseitistheleastimportantwordinthe

phraseandbecauseifIhadmadeitwhite,itwouldnthavebeenvisable.Iraqis

bluebecauseitwasthemissingcolorinthethemeandIthoughtthattheuseofthe

fontmadeitnoticeableenoughwithoutusingthecolorred.

Ichosetodoalogofortheswineflubecauseitisarecurringnewsstorythataffects

theentirecountryandbecauseoftheamountofpossibilitiesfordesigns.WhenI

thoughtofswinefluIautomaticallythoughtofapig.SoIdecidedtomakethedot

oftheiapignose.Thisisalsowhythecolorofthewordswineispink.Imadethelettersofswineareaskewbecauseofthechaosthediseasehascaused.I

wantedtomakeswinethemainfocusofthelogo,soImadefluathin,black,

sans-seriffont.
