The perfect accessories for your new carpet

Personalise your living space with an occasional chair. The Harris chair from Oz Design Furniture, provides wow factor with its beautiful fabric. Use it to create a feature in your living area.

These beautiful new cushions are part of the Carnivale Brights range from Linen House. I love the hand stitched look and the colours are straight from our ‘Oasis’ trend.

Look closely at the Deville lamp from Home Republic and you will see the pattern is created by hundreds of tiny shells that glow when the lamp is on. With the seaside an integral influence in our ‘Simplicity’ trend the Deville lamp fits right in.

Pendant lights are a must have item for any new home or renovation – constructed from unique crystalflex, Forme Furniture’s Fiorella pendant lamp will create a gorgeous focal point over your dining table. Shown here in white.

CARPETS have just released this stunning level loop and cut style carpet that provides subtle texture on the floor with a luxurious soft touch. Featured on our front cover this style comes in a range of soft neutral colours and for the more adventurous, highlight colours such as warm yellow and lilac blue.

THE PALETTEColours are de-saturated, milky, chalky and matt. Take inspiration from the winter sea with stormy grey blues and greens. Combine with soft sandy beige, pure greys or whites. Add depth using darker warm greys and taupes.

DÉCOR FINISHESForm follows function and comfort is key. Large furniture items are basic with minimal detail using natural finishes such as raw or waxed timbers. Smaller details are found in fabrics with simple block type prints, hand made looks and texture created with folds or pleats.

“When I was looking for carpet I was overwhelmed with the choices I faced. I went home and researched thoroughly on the internet so that when I went back into the store I had a pretty good idea what I was after.”

“I would advise anyone looking to purchase carpet to bring samples of finishes from their home in with them to the store – such as other floor coverings or window furnishings. This helps to rule out which colours aren’t going to work.”

“Don’t forget to look at warranties and ACCS ratings. Some carpets look and feel great but aren’t designed to last - I learnt that the hard way! I recently replaced my carpet with one manufactured by a reputable brand that had the appropriate ACCS independent rating – I’m really happy with the result.”

“The one thing I make sure all our customers do is take home several large pieces of carpet that they like. I tell them to look at each one in their room under daylight and artificial light. The colours can change dramatically under different light and customers need to like the overall look.”

“So many people choose their floor finishes last. I always recommend beginning with your carpet as a foundation for all your other finishes. Carpet is the fifth wall and such an important part of your room.” Liz, Melbourne interior decorator

YOURStyle

Q: How did you decide on the style and colour of your carpet?A: When we realised we knew nothing about carpet we did some research on the internet. That’s when we first became aware of CARPETS. After that we knew we wanted a loop pile in a fairly neutral colour.

Q: When would you look at changing your carpet again?A: We like to keep up with trends so we will probably replace our carpet again in maybe 5 years!

Q: What advice would you give to someone buying carpet?A: Do lots of research first so you have a good idea what you want before you go into the store.

If you would like your carpet makeover to be featured in our next issue of Wall 2 Wall simply email your “before and after” photos, a snapshot of yourself, the name of the

carpet used and your contact details to [email protected] We can’t wait to see your latest decorating project!Kathryn purchased her table, chair and cushions from Forme Furniture. For a similar sofa, try Oz Design Furniture.

Q: Why carpet?A: We renovated a few years ago and although floorboards seemed like the practical choice, we found this room was always noisy and the kids didn’t want to play on the floor. We decided to update the room and thought it would be a good time to put carpet down in this area too.

Q: What style were you trying to create in this room?A: We wanted it to be modern but also relaxed and comfortable. We saw an image in one of the lifestyle magazines with colours we liked and went from there.

Here’s what Kathryn from Victoria had to say about her home decorating project using Godfrey Hirst carpet.

Take inspiration from the latest nursery décor and baby friendly carpet from Godfrey Hirst to start decorating your baby’s room.

Although loads of fun, decorating for your new arrival can be a difficult task – what colours do you choose if you don’t know the sex of your baby?

Try mixing some classic neutrals with a solid colour such as lemon, green or as we’ve shown lilac blue. These colours

are unisex and can be accented with

décor later on to suit a boy or girl.

Which carpet style? offers a range of carpets suitable for a child’s

bedroom. If bright colours or plush piles aren’t what you are looking for try a neutral coloured level loop and cut pile geometricpattern or a wool loop pile in a warm hue.

Avoid making your child’s room too babyish, before you know it your baby will be a toddler and then off to school. Keep your nursery simple so you can change the décor to suit your child’s age.
