In 1937 the student counci l wa s o rganized at ndiana Technical C ol lege

to act in an advisory capacity for all stud ent activities and as a link between

the school administration and the stud ent body .

The council now consists of 16 members, 2 fro m each department and

the four class presidents . The ir most recent achievement was the creation

of the "Social Plan ning Committee."

The Interfraternity C o un c il was formed during the 1951 -52 sc hool yea r

in order to better the relations between the re cogn ized fraternities at In ­

diana Tech. Th e council is composed of two members e ected from each

fraternity. The two offices of President and Secretary-Treasurer are rotated

among the member fraternties every third meeting in o rder t o preven t

domination o f the council by an y sing le fraternity. One of the early aims of

the council is t o e stab lish a n An nual Interfraternity Da nce t o he lp the mem­

bers of the various fraternities become better acquainted.

The Male Chorus is composed of students who enjoy chora l singing. The

group was organized in the winter term of 1946 and became an active or-

ganization in the fall of 1947. The chorus takes part in all outstanding school

functions and al so provides entertainment for various groups in and about

Fort Wayne.

The 1951 -52 basketball team coached

by Hank Fa llon was on a slightly better

plane than that of the previous year. Tech

emerged victorious in three out of nine­

teen contests this season, whereas last

yea r they won only one game,

A completely green squad was present­

ed to Hank Fa llon with the exception of

Charles Kay and Ralph Ha nson , two of last

year' s returning lettermen. With very

little mate rial on hand and an extreme lack

of height Hank Fallon did an exceptionally

good job of organizing hi s players , and

bettered t he school's previous season by

two games.

er, was the chief thorn in the side of the

opposition game after game. A deadly

left-handed shot which averaged 20 points

per game over some very strong opposi­

tion was Tech' s only bright spot.

Ralph Hanson was forced to leave the

squad after playing the first 9 ball games

because of working and school difficulties.

This left Tech with only Keith Elder over the

six foot mark, to handle the pivot and re­

bounding. The loss of Han son's rebound­

ing to go along with Elder gave the opposi­

tion complete control of both backboard s.

the past year was Mr. Henry M. Fallon, a native

of Sheldon, North Dakota . Assisting the coach

was Mr. Harold Baggot, in structor in Electrical

and Radio Departments, acting as Fa culty Mod·

erator.

Mr. Fallon received his Bache lor of Science in

Physical Educa t ion from the Un iversi ty of Illino is

and has since been coachin g throug hout the mid·

Anyone watching the progressive sports program at Tech this year sa w

the formation of the boxing team. This group of "fisticuff hopefuls " worked

out regularly with the complete boxing facilities available to the group.

While the group entered no inter-collegiate competition thi s year, the

Golden Gloves Tournament felt the strength and skill of the group. With

most men returning next year, a much expanded program is in expectation.

Hardly had the echo of the second

round bell stopped reverberating at North

Side High School on the twelfth of Feb­

ruary when Frank Carrancepie earned the

right to represent Fort Wayne in the

Golden Glove National Tournament to be

held in Chicago. Frank's area champion­

ship came when his 10 oz. gloves knocked out former heavyweight area Golden Glove Champion Herb Weigold. The bat­tling engineer' s lead-pipe right scored a knockout before the first round ended against Vincent Handley in Frank' s other tournament controversy .

In his junior year in high school, the San Juan Puerto Rican got as far as the quarte r finals in the welterweight divi sion of the AAU and Diamond Belt boxing tournament held in New York City that year 1940. Frank' s defeat came by the hand s of the well known prizefighter of t oda y Rose Ansalone. Later that year boxing fan s found the name of Mr. and Mrs. Carran ce­jie's son entered in the lightweig ht division of New York City 's G o lden G love tourna­ment. The one difficulty that Fran k had in that tournament was the bout with Sugar Ray Robinson . Mr. Robin son went on t o win the tournament.

SOFTBALL The Hawaiia n softba ll team captured the Intra­

mural Softba ll League Championship by winn ing

both ro unds of leag ue play. Runner-up in the

first round was the defending champs, the Radio

Department. In the second round the Aero De­

partment was the runner-up to the cha mpion Ha-" wallans.

The steady pitching of Robert Yokomoto, and

the ability afield of the Hawaiians at large proved

to be the d ownfall of all con tenders fo r the crown.

The most popular of the intramural sports at Indiana

Technical College is bowling. With the exception of the

summer term , a continuous tournament is in progress throughout

the year among the teams which comprise the Bowling

Club. Teams are se lected from various engineering de-

partments, clubs, fraternitie s, and the faculty.

The Fencing Club is an organization which teaches, drill s and

practices the art of using the three ba sic weapons: foil , sabre

and epee . Fencing activities can be substituted for regular physical

education activitie s. This cl ub al so maintains a fencing team

Variety C lub. The club is compri sed of actors and radio

en tertaine rs as well as an o rchestra and a Hawaiian musical group.

Under the leadership of Bil l Ta ylor, Doc Dean , Frank DiCuia,

and Eng Shu n the cl ub has presented programs over the

radio, at vario us civic clubs and at the President's reception

for the Freshmen . Their biggest project, however, was

the en te rtai nment at the summer convocation.

The Menorah Club came into being in October, 1951, for the purpose of offering a program which would serve to help

the J ewish student at Tech to continue hi s interest in the affairs of the Jewish people , their culture, and heritage and to bring

to Ind iana Technical College a program which would enlighten the non-Jewish students by presenting programs that would

be both en te rtai ning and informative. Towa rds this end the Menorah Club present ed a film on Israel and sponsored

a di splay at the Open House.
