GO 10 D/A 19 January 1953
21. The 765th Transportation Railway Shop Battalion (second award) is cited for exceptionally meritorious
conduct in the performance of outstanding actions in Korea during the period 22 September 1951 to 21
March 1952. Responsible for the inspection, maintenance and repair of most of the railroad rolling stock in
use in Korea, the members of this battalion consistently carried out their multifarious duties in an
exemplary manner. One of their most outstanding achievements was the introduction of American
production methods which resulted in a tremendous increase in efficiency in the shops operated by the
battalion. Periodic and extensive salvage drives by this unit made possible the saving of a large amount of
money during a period when economy was the keynote. The superior technical proficiency and tireless
effort of the members of this battalion earned them the deepest respect and admiration of all those
cognizant of their fine work and contributed immeasurably to the success achieved by their organization in
accomplishing its critically essential mission, thus materially furthering the cause of the United Nations in
Korea. The 765th Transportation Railway Shop Battalion displayed such outstanding devotion to duty in the
performance of exceptionally difficult tasks as to set it apart and above other units with a similar mission.
The great skill, esprit de corps, and unstinting devotion to duty exhibited by the members of this battalion
reflect great credit on themselves and the military service of the United States. (General Orders 468,
Headquarters, Eighth United States Army, Korea, 17 August 1952.)
