It was a first in the history of ourcongregation. The Main Synagoguewas filled close to capacity on Sunday,February 9, for a Cantorial Concertfeaturing our own Cantor AvrumDavis, Hazzan Abraham Mizrahi, Can¬tor David Koussevitzky and eightyvoices of children from grades 4 to 6who represent the Middle SchoolChorus of Ramaz.

The afternoon was an artistic andinspirational success. Cantor Davis wasat the top of his voice although he wason the eve of being smitten by theflu. Hazzan Mizrahi, with his variedassortment of cantorial and Sephardicmusic, was a delight to hear. CantorDavid Koussevitzky who was replacingMisha Alexandrovich — who was

smitten by the flu before the concert —is, of course, a great performer whotreated the audience to a delightfulseries of cantorial and Yiddish selec¬tions.

Cheers for Michael Berl

Perhaps the highlight of the after¬noon was a selection of five songs bythe Middle School Chorus of Ramaz. There was hardly a dry eye in the aud¬ience as these children sang with theirlips, their minds, and, above all, theirhearts. They were simply great, led bytheir talented and inspirational direc¬tor, Michael Berl.

Special Thanks forCouples Club SabbathA brief word of thanks for Mrs.

William Major, who was the Chairmanof the Couples Club Sabbath whichwas held on Shabbat, February 8. Theluncheon was a great success due toher efforts and the fine committeewhich she assembled.

A Surprise Guest StarThrough the good offices of Sandy

so thrilling that he received a standingovation from the assemblage. We havesince learned that Mr. Raitzin has beensigned to a contract with the Metropoli¬tan Opera. It is nice to know that hisactual American debut was in our shul.We are deeply grateful to Cantor

Davis for putting together this beauti¬ful concert. We appreciate the specialassist given by Steven Lorch and theother members of the Committee: Dr.Lawrence Bryskin, Albert H. Bernsteinand Max Sadinoff. The latter also or¬

Hit IfatturimttROSA STEIN

We mourn the passing of a nobleJewish lady who, from her birth inCracow, through a life of dedica¬tion to the Jewish people, the Landof Israel and the Hebrew language, demonstrated so remarkably what itmeans to be a Jew.

She suffered illness for manyyears, but this never deterred herfrom her role as a loving wife, de¬voted mother and great friend ofthe Jewish people. Her poetrywhich appeared in the New YorkUlpan Magazine with regularity wasan inspiration to the lovers of Zionof our day.

Her dear husband, Dr. EmanuelStein, mourns her premature pass¬ing. Her children have lost a guideand mentor. We at Kehilath Jeshu-run also mourn the passing of agood friend. May the family be com¬forted and consoled among all ofus who mourn for Zion and Jeru¬salem.

A K.J. Family PublishesWe are proud to record two pub¬

lications of the Mosesson family whichhave appeared in recent months. Carol,Carl, Roger, Neil and Eric Mosesson(all Ramaz students, except for Ericwho is an alumnus) have authored"The Perfect Put-down" published byScholastic Book Services. The paper¬back volume is a collection of very

funny jokes, selected and "eclected"by the Mosesson children over the

I course of several months. Simultane¬ously, Gloria Mosesson, their mother, has authored a book on jewelry mak¬ing entitled "Jewelry Craft For Be¬ginners" and published by Bobbs-Mer-rill. The volume, of which VirginieFowler Elbert is a co-author, teaches

Ithe simple techniques and basics of de¬sign and manufacture for homemadejewelry. It is a jewel of a book.

PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO PASSOVER RELIEF!We appeal to all our readers at this

season of the year to send in their con¬tributions for Passover Relief withoutdelay. Our Appeal covers essentiallythree different areas of Jewish life:

1. Needy individuals who do notcome to the attention of organ¬ized charities.

2. Worthy institutions in Americaand in Israel which look to us

for support and whom we canaid at this season of the yearwith a generous subvention.

3. A special effort in behalf ofSoviet Jews to send them pack¬ages for their general needs,Matzah for their Passover needsand to support them spirituallyand physically in every waypossible.

Our needs this year are greater thanever before because the rising costswhich affect us all affect the poor and

the deserving institutions even more.We have been literally besieged withrequests for aid. We ask our friends, therefore, to be more generous thisyear than ever before.

In addition, your gift right now willenable us to extend our hand to thosein need before Passover when it willdo the most good. Please help us,therefore, to help others in as gener¬ous and magnanimous a way as pos¬sible.

In our pre-Passover issue of theBulletin, we plan to publish a full listof all contributors. We would like toinclude your name in that list. Pleasemake it possible for us to do so bysending in your contribution today.

May God reward you for your kind¬ness and may you be able to sit downat the Seder table on Wednesdaynight, March 26, and say with convic¬tion: "May all who are hungry joinus and eat."
