Baumgarten, President of the congregation, announced the ap¬ pointment recently of nine new As¬ sociate Trustees to the Board of the congregation. The following were newly appointed: Dr. Leon A. Feldman Harry Green Norman Jaspan Joseph Lorch Aaron Reinhold Irwin Robins Martin R. Rochlin David Rosen Samuel B. Silverstein It is to be hoped that the addition of these men to the Board of Trustees of the congregation will enhance the work of the Board and involve more laymen in the direction of the affairs of Kehilath Jeshurun. The President also announced plans for the appointment of a group of standing committees which will also serve to broaden the involvement of Kehilath Jeshurun members in congre¬ gational work. Details of these com¬ mittees and their members will be announced in a forthcoming issue. RESERVE NOW FOR HIGH HOLY DAY SEATS Reservations are now being ac¬ cepted from members and non mem¬ bers for seats during the High Holy Day season in both the Main Syna¬ gogue and in our Auxiliary service, held in our air conditioned Auditorium. Once again this year, we will conduct two parallel services for the member¬ ship and the community at large. Members of the congregation will shortly receive reservation forms in the mail. We request that they inform us of their deeds without delay, so that we can make the necessary plans for their comfort and convenience. We also invite our friends in the community to worship with us for the High Holy Day season. Reservations will be accepted on a first come-first served basis. Space will be available for both services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Another exemplary senior class, in the best traditions of Ramaz High School, was graduated on Thursday evening, June 19th, at exercises held in the Y.M.H.A. Among the sixty-one graduates are the following young members of our congregational fam¬ ily: Samuel Blumenthal Richard Kahn Joseph Low Roger Oppenheimer Jessica Schacter Marilyn Smilow Lewis Trencher Honors and Awards Continuing in the exemplary tradi¬ tion of previous graduating classes, the senior class of 1969 has established for itself an enviable record in many facets of academic competition. Of fifty-five students who were eligible to take the New York State Regents Scholarship Examination, twenty-six were winners, while nine will receive State Scholarships as alternates. Once again, the percentage of winners and alternates tops all Day Schools in the State and constitutes one of the high¬ est records of any school in New York. In the National Merit Award Com¬ petition, Ramaz placed two finalists and two semi-finalists while thirteen students received letters of commenda¬ tion. Perhaps the crowning achieve¬ ment was the winning of two Westing- house Awards in Science and Mathe¬ matics by seniors in this graduating class. As we have come to expect over the years, the Ramaz senior class has been received warmly by colleges all over the country. Honors and Awards

Continuing in the exemplary tradi¬tion of previous graduating classes, thesenior class of 1969 has establishedfor itself an enviable record in manyfacets of academic competition. Offifty-five students who were eligibleto take the New York State RegentsScholarship Examination, twenty-sixwere winners, while nine will receiveState Scholarships as alternates. Onceagain, the percentage of winners andalternates tops all Day Schools in theState and constitutes one of the high¬est records of any school in New York.

Congregation Kehilath Jeshurunbid farewell last week to one ofits most illustrious senior members,Mr. Morris Morgenstern, of blessedmemory.

The funeral service was held inour Main Synagogue. In attendancewere representatives of the Ameri¬can and world Jewish community.Present also were leaders of wel¬fare and philanthropic institutions ofall faiths and colors.Mr. Morris Morgenstern achieved

a world reputation for his unparal¬leled generosity to all causes. Hewas especially noted for his devo¬tion to Torah institutions, fromYeshiva University down to themost modest day schools in everypart of the community.

The principal eulogy was de¬livered by Rabbi Joseph H. Look-stein and words of tribute were

spoken by Rabbi Emanuel Rackmanof the Fifth Avenue Synagogue.Rabbi Haskel Lookstein conductedthe entire service.

Our heartfelt sympathies are ex¬tended to the children and grand¬children of Mr. Morgenstern and, inparticular, to his dear wife Celiawho together with her sainted par¬ents has had a long association withKehilath Jeshurun.

LEON GRONOWITZ

We record with sorrow the pass¬ing, after a long illness, of LeonGronowitz, an esteemed member ofKehilath Jeshurun for many years.Mr. Gronowitz took special plea¬

sure in worshipping in KehilathJeshurun. The smile on his face andthe glow in his eye when he oc¬cupied his seat in the front pewswas clear to all about him. He lovedhis people and its faith and he wasloyal to Kehilath Jeshurun and itsfamily.

We pray that Mrs. Gronowitz andher family will be spared furthersorrow for many years to come.

Condolence—Our heartfelt condolences to our

devoted member, David Gordon, uponthe passing of his beloved sister, Lil¬lian Klatsky. May he and the familybe spared further sorrow for manyyears to come.

Our sincere expressions of sym¬pathy to our new member, MartinZuger, upon the sudden passing of hisfather, Ira Zuger. We pray that thefamily will be spared further sorrowfor many years to come.

BARRY HOWARD MEISLIN

Congratulations to Dr. and Mrs.Aaron G. Meislin upon the forthcom¬ing Bar Mitzvah of their son, Barry.The celebration will take place at Sab¬bath services in our synagogue onSaturday, June 28th.

Barry, a fine studenf in Form I ofthe Ramaz Upper School, is a regularworshipper in our synagogue and wasa stalwart member of the Junior Con¬gregation. He will chant both WeeklyPortions and the Haftorah as part ofour regular services on the 28th.

The entire congregation will be theguests of Dr. and Mrs. Meislin at thekiddush following services that Sab¬bath.

SHACHAR SCORES THEATRICAL HITOn Sunday, May 18th, the teenage

group of the congregation, Shachar,presented a full scale production ofGilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado. Anenthusiastic gathering of children andparents viewed the afternoon perfor¬mance. The evening performance sawan overflow crowd of three hundredand fifty onlookers applaud and en¬thusiastically receive this splendid pro¬duction.

An outstanding job was renderedby some forty teenagers of our con¬gregation's Youth Group. Special men¬tion is due to David Hostyk, assistantmusic director; Marilyn Smilow andPhyllis Katz for the costumes; RogerOppenheimer for lights and DebbieGutman, production assistant.

The music director for the perform¬ance was Steven Lorch, an alumnus ofour Youth Group. The general directorwas Mrs. Rina Elisha, who put the en¬tire performance together with ex¬ceptional expertise. Congratulations toour Youth Director, Noam Shudofsky,for conceiving this project and bring¬ing it to fruition.
