University of San Diego
Spring 2016, Issue 3
We love CASA!
1
The weekend of April 8-10 was our
annual Mom’s Weekend. Members
loved having our moms visit for the
weekend and showing them a taste of
our lives at USD. Activities included an
evening with appetizers, a painting
class, and a delicious brunch. This is
always one of our favorite weekends of
the year!
Our annual philanthropy event, Mr.
University, was on April 13th. This
event is a male beauty pageant, in
which contestants representing
different fraternities and clubs on
campus compete in talent, formal
wear, and interview competitions, all
while raising money for our great
philanthropies. This sold-out show was
a blast to watch. In the end, we raised
about $15,00 for Court Appointed
2
Special Advocates (CASA), and the
Theta Foundation. We know that this
money will have a big impact on
children in the foster care system and
on Theta’s in need. We are very
grateful for the support we received
throughout all of this from our campus
community, parents, friends, and
beyond.
The University of San Diego held
elections for Associated Students, our
student government, on April 19th. We
are so proud of our sister, Danielle
Priore, for being elected as the
Associated Students Vice President for
the 2016-2017 school year!
On April 23rd, there was a walk in San
Diego for the National Multiple
Sclerosis Society. Eleven of our sisters
3
attended this walk together to support
this important cause.
Also on April 23rd, we had some of our
sisters throw a birthday party for
residents at Nazareth House, a local
retirement home. We celebrated all of
the residents with April birthdays with
chocolate, and got to talk to many
residents and hear all of their
interesting stories.
Throughout the spring, all of the
sororities at USD have participated in
the Men’s Tennis Challenge. The
sorority that had the highest
attendance at home men’s tennis
matches won $400 to their
philanthropy, and Theta won!
