INTRODUCTIONThe 1970's were a period where disco, punk, gospel, and rock were

very popular. Many people of this era embraced

communal living and a nomadic lifestyle, explored

Eastern religions, experimented with drugs and adopted

a rebellious style of dress. Fashion in the 1970s wasdaring, carefree, and diverse. For women, skirts ranged

from extremely long to drastically short and fabrics

were bright and boldly patterned. Men wore their shirts

tight, their trouser-legs wide and their moustaches long.

'Hippie' styles of dress entered the mainstream and new

ethnic-inspired fashion imitated styles from all corners

    of the world.

    Men's fashion in the 1970s

Men's fashion became more boldand daring throughout the 1970s.The hippie influence of the late1960s crossed over into the fashionof both sexes. For men, this meant

wide, colourful ties and bright, fittedshirts with big collars. Many mengrew short beards, sideburns ormoustaches and let their hair growlong.

Flared trousers were popular withboth men and women throughoutthe decade - ranging from a subtleflare to huge, flapping bell-bottoms.

Disco becameso popular that its effect could easily be seen on TV, film, music, fashion, and dcor, all these took something from disco itself. Some of the well known musical groups and individuals of theera include The Bee Gees, KC and the Sunshine Band, Chic,ABBA, and Donna Summer. These groups began fashion trends that are still seen in societytoday.

70s MakeupThough the clothing of the 1970s wassort of out there, the 70s makeup

trends of the decade were actually quite

    subtle.

Women looked pretty and natural though

there was always a little splash of colorthat brightened up the face and lent a

    playful or mysterious look.

    Foundation was never heavy and

matched the wearers skin tone as closely

as possible. That means makeup in anude color that simply evened the skin

tone was a big seller because women

were hoping to achieve a very natural

    70s makeup look.

    70s Hairstyles Women

The 1970s has become known for a lot of

outlandish trends, and the hairstyles of that

    era are no exception.

Those unique hairdos were pretty cool in their

day and those who wore them were quite

proud of their look. And even though theyoung generation of today might find those

styles unappealing, the looks of the 70s will

remain some of the most memorable

    hairstyles in history.

In the 1960s, hairstyles were very severe and

often involved the use of lots of curlers and

    plenty of spray

70s Hairstyles MenTrends in hairstyles of the 1970s for both menand women would appear fairly unusual to the

fashionista of today. The rule of less is more certainly didnt apply

to 70s hairstyles for men's.At the beginning of the decade, the hairstyles

or lack thereof of the late 60s hung around

for awhile. Young men tended to wear their

hair straight and parted down the center.Headbands tied around the forehead were

still popular in the 70s and may have been

worn as an accessory by men as well as

women. This style began to fade away by 1973 or so.
