KAMAYANIThe word 'KAMAYANI' derived from Sanskrit, means faith,

a great belief. A belief that comes from within and touches our souls. Kamayani was set up in 1964 and was started by

Mrs. Sindhutai Joshi. Despite personal hardships and tribulations the founder Mrs. Joshi's overwhelming love for

children of ‘ led her to make a humble beginning.

Her dedication for well over three decades has transformed the modest one room school into an institution recognized all over the country for the human services rendered to a much

neglected segment of our society.

OUR MISSIONContribute to the Welfare of Mentally Challenged Persons,

with Creation of Activities for Early Intervention, Special Education, Vocational Training & Rehabilitation of

the Mentally Challenged Persons, Research and Public Education.

Kamayani Society has been in the forefront of Education, Welfare, Vocational Training and Research in the field of Mentally Retarded Persons for the past 44 years since its establishment in 1964 in Pune. Hon. Smt. Sindhutai Joshi was the founder of this society.

The trustees, managing committee and all the staff of Kamayani have determined to continue and expand the good work of the society to greater heights and new horizons.

CURRENT ACTIVITIES

Kamayani Vidya Mandir - Special Children above age 6, needing admission, are evaluated and observed in our Child Guidance Clinic for few weeks before admission. Kamayani Schools have various classes as per age and IQ levels. Any prospective student with IQ levels above 50 and having toilet control training is considered for admission.

Kamayani Sheltered Workshop - The workshop is the beehive of activity and contributes immensely in the training and rehabilitation process. Various skills are imparted and the students are trained to master sewing machines, hand-looms and power looms. Candle making, non toxic soap, detergent manufacturing, clay modeling, embroidery, greeting cards are other activities through which students exhibit their prodigious talents

Kamayani Teachers Training College - A Govt. recognized teachers training college was set up in 1985 to sensitize teachers on the art of teaching the mentally challenged. The course is a mandatory requirement and the curriculum is recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India. Diplomas are awarded on completition of the course. Kamayani takes th pride to note that our past alumni have set up schools all over Maharashtra State. Kamayani is now planning to introduce degree course B.Ed. ( Special Education)

Kamayani School-Nigdi - The school has around a hundred children on its roll anda pre-vocational setup caters to a group of thirty. The school is privileged to have a patronage of major industries who also handsomely contribute by ensuring employment opportunities. A unique project of “SOLAR ENERGY VEGETABLE DRYING PLANT” was started with donations from BNY Mellon, in 2014, on Kamayani's Golden Jubilee Anniversary Year.
