Denise Toohey – Principal
Vale Jody Beahan - Farewell Mrs B
Narromine Public School staff, students and wider school
community mourn the loss of a dearly loved and cherished staff
member, Mrs Jody Beahan. Sadly on the 12 May 2020 Mrs Beahan
passed away following her long and brave battle with cancer.
Our deepest condolences to Mrs Beahan’s family; her husband
Mark, children Emily and Josh and Emily’s husband Matt and Josh’s wife Suzie.
Life is incredibly precious. The role we play and the people we touch are all uniquely
connected. Jody had a connection to each and every member of our staff. She built
beautiful relationships with our students. Mrs B was a friendly, warm welcoming face
in the playground and in the classrooms.
Jody’s laugh in chorus with Makaila’s giggles could be heard across the playground as the two worked away with
Makaila’s learning program. Her support and encouragement in the Stage 2 classrooms has been a lifeline to so many
little people as they have work their way through difficulties with her guiding hand for reassurance. Mrs Beahan will
be greatly missed and forever remembered by our school family. We will hold a memorial tree planting in her honour
at school.
Welcoming our students back onsite - Monday 25 May
Premier Gladys Berejiklian and the Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell have announced the return to full-time
attendance at school commencing Monday 25 May 2020 (Week 5).
She also noted that schools will stick with the government health advice including: increased cleaning, access to
hygiene supplies and compliance with hygiene practices and that schools will maintain the measures and precautions
they have put in place for the foreseeable future, including no assemblies and excursions.

Narromine Public School is greatly looking forward to welcoming our students back onsite five days a week from
Monday 25 May. At the moment this is what parents can expect to see at Narromine Public School:
Students will be in their home classes (as best we can depending on staff numbers).
Upon arrival students will continue to sit in their designated locations as per COVID -19 arrangements.
First lunch and second lunch will be staggered to minimise mixing between Stages.
No excursions or extra-curricular activities.
No large group playground games.
Class groups will participate in PE and sport.
Parents will continue to drop and collect students at the gates, at this point parents and non-essential adults
will not be invited onto site.
Social distancing will be maintained, please avoid gathering at the gates of NPS.
Tastebuds canteen will be fully operational.
Student attendance is as per pre COVID-19, if your child is absent please contact the school.

Changes to school routine
There are a number of changes currently in place at school to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students and staff.
Thank you to those students and parents who have adapted quickly to the new system.
Morning Entry to School
We are asking all families to use the Kiss and Drop gate (Meryula Street) as our main entry point in the morning.
Parents are able to drop students at the gate while maintaining social distancing guidelines. No parents are currently
allowed onto school grounds.
Once they have arrived at school, students are to go to one of the following areas to wait for teachers.
Kindy – Jarrah Cola outside Kindy rooms
Year 1 and 2 – Hall
Year 3 and 4 – Banksia Cola
Year 5 and 6 – Waratah Cola (silver seats)
Lunch Breaks
Lunch times have been staggered to allow for safe play. Years 3-6 will continue with normal times for lunch while K-2
have had their lunches brought forward.
The new break times for K-2 are:
Lunch One – 10:30 – 10:55
Lunch Two – 12:45 – 1:20
The activities currently being encouraged in the playground are handball, sandpit play, fixed equipment play and
organised relay games. Being introduced in Week 4 there will be some ball activities including using basketballs, soccer
balls and tennis rackets as well as skill-based activities.
It was great to see some Year 3 and 4 students develop a game of shadow tag during Week 3. Well done.
Afternoon Exit
Students are now being escorted to designated exit points in the afternoon. We would like most children to continue
to be picked up from the Kiss and Drop Zone. The canteen gates are also open and students who catch the bus will
continue to exit from the normal bus gate. We are encouraging parents to avoid the office gates as a pick-up point.
You can find more information about this on our school’s Facebook page where information is updated regularly. Once
again, thank you to all the families who have quickly adapted to these necessary changes.

Content Creation
Firstly, thank you for your enthusiasm with our changed method of learning in the past few weeks. We appreciate
your dedication in using our Home Learning Packs and accessing online learning.
Our staff have been busy scripting and filming videos to support our parents with learning at home. These videos have
been created to provide information and insightful tips for your child’s learning. To access these videos, please head
to our Facebook page, click on ‘videos’ and enjoy a range of videos catered for you and our students.
In the coming weeks, teachers will be undertaking a range of assessments. Assessments are a key component to the
learning process as it helps our staff and students to identify appropriate learning goals. It is important for teachers to
gauge student understanding of the content which has been taught. This process will drive future teaching and provide
an opportunity to reflect on the learning that has taken place.
There will be a change in our reports, however, it will continue to include English, Mathematics and General comments.
Amanda Turnbull – Assistant Principal and Content Creation Team

STORM - By Bridget McDonnell (Bogan) Stage 3
BOOM! CRASH! BANG!
I watch the clouds rolling up in the distance,
The clouds as dark as charcoal.
I see the clouds somersaulting in,
Quicker, quicker, guicker.
Storm clouds rolling in over the crystal blue ocean,
Waves crashing against the rocks.
Weather this weather brightens your day,
Or ruin your mood.
It is sure to grab everyone's attention.
Storm - By Klaneesha Knight (Bogan) Stage 3
BOOM,BANG,CRASH I hear the storm somersaulting in
faster than the waves washing up to shore.
I catch lightning glitching across the dark blue
mountains along the dark blue sky.
The wind twirls around and around like a ballerina on a
big white sheep.
The thunder rumbles harder and harder that it sounds
like someone’s playing the drums.
The weather at my house - by Alicia Holden
(Castlereagh) Stage 3
The weather at my house, including inside and out. This
text is about the weather at my house. The weather at
my house will be explained during these paragraphs.
At the start of the day:
The weather at my house at the start of the day is a bit
cold.Cold by wind, ground and air but inside it's warm
like a burnt marshmallow, that marshmallow is as hot
as a heated blanket.
Lunch time:
At lunch my house is warm on the outside and still a bit
hot on the inside, in the kitchen it's a bit cold. Once you
step inside the lounge room it's like you're stepping on
the warmest blankets ever.
Night:
At night it's hot inside and cold outside, we have the
heater on inside and dad would be working outside. Ty
would be sitting in front of the freezing window while
I’d be in my roasting room.
In conclusion my house is cold, hot and warm at different times of day and in different places of the house, this is my
summary of the weather at my house.

The number is odd.

P&C
As we move into Week 4 of the school term, the P&C would like to say a big welcome back to all students and staff
at NPS. It has been a very unusual time for all, both in and outside the school environment and we are very much
looking forward to everything getting back to normal soon.
Last term ended very suddenly and unfortunately the P&C were unable to run their Big Easter Raffle and the canteen
at the school disco. This term saw the Mothers Day Stall cancelled and the P&C meeting postponed. On a positive
note, our canteen is open and serving up delicious treats and specials as always (of course adhering to strict social
distancing measures). Jess and Wendy are doing an amazing job and we know both the students and teachers are
enjoying what is on offer each week.
As we move through the year we hope that we will be able to run our Fathers Day Stall, athletics carnival canteen,
the extremely popular School Fete and a couple new fundraising ideas leading up to Christmas.
2020 will definitely be a year we won’t forget and our committee looks forward to what’s left to come.
A new date for our P&C Meeting will be made soon, so keep you eye out on Facebook and in the newsletter.
