I assume that this magazine is several months old, I don’t know. I saw Chevrolet ads and Zenith Ray ads... hmmm.... I came across an article about a protot ype military craft called The Janus. It seemed interesting enough. A guy named Sam Campbell made it and it’s two times  bigger then a Chevrolet Nagare. The Janus had the ability to hack into any computer with a mid to low ranking security system, and had enough firepower to blow up a Jupiter sized piece of rock. The outline of the ship gave me a funny feeling. It looked like a hawk closing in on some prey. A curious design that, I read, was made to strike fear into its opponents. Azuka and I were sitting in Dr. Joshi’s waitingroom. Azuka said that she was busy and we had to wait our

turn. In that time, she explained how things worked. She

was messing with the belt on my outfit, altering my

ensemble for my convenience. Dad had given me a quick

explanation, and Azuka went in depth. She had already

taught me how to use the boots, and that seemed easy. The

outfit is as easy to program as the boots are.

Azuka made my Hedy a dazzling golden color because

I’m a guest here at the moment, and unemployed. She

didn’t say why that color was associated though. I picked

up a magazine to keep myself busy; it was a Time

magazine with a girl in a business outfit on the cover. I

thumbed through it, looking for an interesting article. Iassume that this magazine is several months old, I don’t

know.

I saw Chevrolet ads and Zenith Ray ads... hmmm....

I came across an article about a prototype military craft

called The Janus. It seemed interesting enough.

A guy named Sam Campbell made it and it’s two times

bigger then a Chevrolet Nagare. The Janus had the ability

to hack into any computer with a mid to low ranking

security system, and had enough firepower to blow up a

Jupiter sized piece of rock.

The outline of the ship gave me a funny feeling. It lookedlike a hawk closing in on some prey. A curious design that,

I read, was made to strike fear into its opponents. It worked

on me to some extent. Of course, that design is the

prototype, and the design may have changed, as it said.

I knew Johnny had a liking for reading this; we both

agreed that it was somewhat interesting. I turned to Azuka

and showed her the article. Azuka was reading her own

magazine, and idly popping her lips.

"What’s your take on this?" I asked. I wanted to get some

info for talking to Johnny later on. Azuka looked at themagazine and rolled her eyes with a gentle wave of the

hand.

"I am rather apathetic in the matter. A behemoth of a ship

with that merit holds little concern for me. I would not

worry, it is old news Kyoko." Azuka traded her Newsweek

for a Cosmo Space Girl, uninterested in the article Ishowed her. I put my magazine down and sighed, looking

around the office.

"Who is Juyo Joshi? Is she your boss?" I asked. Azuka

put the magazine in her lap.

"Yes, she is, as slang goes, living the Sims with several

residents on the ship, myself included. She owns The SixthDistrict, to an extent, and decides what positions one shall

obtain,” she said with boredom in her voice. Azuka turned

to me and held her hand out to reassure me.

“When you are talking with her at any time, do not be

discouraged at her tone of voice. She is always angry.” She

said as a casual warning.“Angry?” I asked, a little surprised at the remark. Azuka

nodded.

“Yes. She is not in actuality; it is her nature to converse

in that manner. It is most rebarbative Kyoko. I cannot stand

it.” She said and got back to her magazine and annoying

lip popping.

I guess that the future, or what I know, has its problems

too. I bit my lip and sighed.

I looked at my Hedy and lightly snapped the fabric on the

back of my hand a few times to block out her noise. I

noticed as I fiddled that if I flexed my hand, I could see my

tendons attached to my knuckle through the Hedy, as if I

wasn’t wearing it. I wonder though...

"Why is everyone wearing a Hedy?” I asked, but Azuka

interrupted me effortlessly.“It is a long ‘ A’ Kyoko, Hedy, rhymes with the word

‘maybe’ with a ‘ D’ instead of a ‘ B’.” she corrected me. I

glared at her.

“It’s a Hedy...?” I said, trying it out. I was saying it like

the name is pronounced: Head-EE .

"Why is everyone wearing a …Hedy? They’re a little

extreme." I said. Azuka seemed irritated with the question,

 but she answered anyway.

“Unisex Hedys, though uncomfortable at times, help

contain fluids in the body and prevent symptoms of

weightlessness, runny noses, stuffiness, and such. They

keep blood flowing properly so that one can work withoutthe indicated problems. It was a requirement here and it

still is for the very same reasons, despite being in a

controlled gravitational environment.”

The door to Dr. Joshi’s office opened and a woman

stepped out wearing the nurse’s outfit with a black Hedy.

She looked angry. The thing that got me was... working catears among her black hair...

What in the world… where are her normal ears? I tried to

find out, but her hair was too long for me to tell...

Azuka spoke.

"Hedy colors often disclose the status of a staff member. The black Hedy states that Stacey is unemployed; she was

terminated by Dr. Joshi.

Dark colors are novice and lighter colors climb higher on

the ladder. Shades of blue are medicine, green is science--

the two can be intermixed-yellow is food, gold is pending,

and red can mean two different things. Shades of red and a

black outfit mean low time government, while shades of

red and white outfit mean, well… general other.” Azuka

said and started inside the office.

I followed her inside, still staring at the mysterious catears atop the girls head. She was reading over a piece of

paper... I tried to find a logical reason for the ears; I saw no

headband or anything to prop them up... How is she doing

that?

“ Zdravzvutye Azuka. Is she the recently arrived?" I heard

from the office. Azuka started to answer when I sawsomething that scared me!

The girl wasn’t able to find a pen to fill out her form, so

she stretched her arm two and a half meters across a

counter to grab one!

“Oh my God!” I yelled and backed up against the wall.

How did this woman do that? That’s Impossible! She hada long arm… and cat ears! What is this?

The girl noticed my rude outburst, and stared at me with

her ears back, growling. When the vision of the strange

lady was replaced with a grey door, I realized that I was

jerked into the office because the door had quickly shut in

my face.

"What...how... the... the girl... she... stretched her..." I

sputtered, pointing at the bland door.

Azuka and a woman with a loose fire truck red ponytail

stared at me as if I was a loose chicken. I assumed the

woman was Dr. Joshi. She looked naturally irritated, and

wore a dress matching Azukas, but with a Powder blue

Hedy.

"Is she hindering Azuka?" She asked in all honesty.

The woman saying that was a small mental wake up call.

I didn’t blame her for what was said. I had started to chill

out, so I sat down in front of the desk and tried to relax.

Dr. Joshi typed some things on the keyboard and I felt a

sharp tingly sensation on the back of my head. It was still

numb, bit it was getting better too. I rubbed that spot in

mild confusion. It felt like a caffeine rush.

“Since you don’t know at the moment Fran,” Dr. Joshi

started.

“I have changed your Hedy color to Prussian blue, hex

number 003153.” She said. I looked down at my hand and

smiled, I was impressed. She was right; the Hedy went

from golden, to a deep blue as she said.“Hey wow, how about that.” I said.

“Excuse me, how about what, Francine?” Dr. Joshi asked

curiously as if I had a question. I looked at her and shook

my head, shrugging it off.

“Never mind, thanks for taking me.” I said. Dr. Joshi

snubbed me, not a rude snub, but a she’s busy snub.

" Pozhalusta, now, Azuka ..." She turned to Azuka who

had abruptly stopped popping her lips. I’m starting to get

annoyed by that...

"You have been disobeying orders for the past two

months now. Because of your kindness, I have not bothered, but stealing snacks for patients and letting Scott

Rooney die in space when we wanted to test his cancer

 before hand was too much.

I feel that I can’t fire a nice person like you, but your

kindness is going to get you in more trouble then you can

imagine one day... Azuka, you are demoted to Francine’s

level." She said.

I looked at Azuka. I could see she was depressed inside. I

bit my lip and started to comfort her, when Dr. Joshi spoke

again.

"You are to show Kyoko our ways here, and then

accompany her to your job on this space ship."

Dr. Joshi played with her computer and Azuka's Hedy

went from azure to Prussian blue.

"I am done with you two girls, defy gravity." Dr. Joshi

said while flicking her hand, and then she plucked her Hedy wrist with a curled lip.

I pondered her attitude. Why is she like that that if she’s a

Russian? I had never seen someone like that. History says

that in the timeframe I grew up in, the Russians are the bad

guys. I wasn’t taught that they still are, just that they were.

She seems nice enough…Azuka and I walked out of the office, Azuka with her

head down and me staring at the odd kitty-chick that was

still there... her white dress and boots had become cheetah

 printed while I was away.

I decided to stay away from her because she was yelling

something about computers and was frustrated at anextreme level. I tried to ignore her, and Azuka and I

walked off.
