indicates reigns that cannot be reconciled without also
changing lengths of reigns and/or order of events.
"Starts late" indicates in relative terms

Starting years of reign for nations other than Judah and Israel
are a 'best fit' for the relevant events where no specific years
are suggested by the Watch Tower Society. By default, this is
determined by adding the number of years that the Watch
Tower Society has inserted into the the Judean monarchy
after that point to the actual start year. Lengths of reign for
these kings are per secular sources.

Ashurnasirpal II actually began to reign

acknowledges that Ashurnasirpal II actually
reigned during the 9th century BCE, this
cannot be reconciled with the Watch Tower

without further distorting some or all of the
reigns of Ben-Hadad I, Ben-Hadad II, Hazael
Ben-Hadad III, Ashurnasirpal II and

The established length of his reign cannot be

was at war with Ahab of Israel and Ben-Hadad

Society rejects Assyrian records associating
Shalmaneser III with Ahab.

A period of 48 extra years (12

co-regency of Ben-Hadad I &
Ben-Hadad II and the sole
reign of Ben-Hadad II on page
4, and 36 years between the

in the Watch Tower Society's
chronology. (This is in
addition to any intervening
kings who may have reigned
during the period secular
sources tentatively assign to

created as a result of the 48
extra years that the Watch
Tower Society adds to the
Judean monarchy. Also see

In the established secular history, the reigns of
Shalmaneser IV, Ashur-dan III and Ashur-
nirari V account for the entire period between
the reigns of Adad-nirari III and Tiglath-Pileser
III. When Insight briefly mentions these three
kings, it vaguely claims the period "included"
their reigns, leaving a spurious period of 48
years before the reign of Tiglath-Pileser III.
See note on next page.

In addition to the spurious 48-
year gap, the established
length of his reign cannot
easily be reconciled with the
Watch Tower Society's
chronology. See note below.
A gap of 48 years appears between the reigns
of Ashur-nirari V and Tiglath-Pileser III.
The Watch Tower Society asserts that the
'390 years of Israel's guilt' (Ezekiel 4:5) ends
with Jerusalem's destruction (which it assigns
to 607 BCE) instead of the subsequent
judgement of Babylon (539 BCE)—a
difference of 68 years. As the Watch Tower
Society extends the Neo-Babylonian period by
20 years, it leaves a remainder of 48 years
unaccounted for.
Whilst the Watch Tower Society does not
assign specific years for reigns of other
nations, changing the starting points (but not
lengths) of any of the reigns simply
redistributes the anomalous 48-years rather
than accounting for it.

Tiglath-Pileser III actually began to reign
745 BCE.
The established length of his reign
cannot be reconciled with the Watch
Tower Society's chronology. Assyrian
records indicate that the reign of Tiglath-
Pileser III was contemporary with the
reigns of Uzziah, Ahaz, Menahem,

Society acknowledges that he was
contemporary with these kings, but its
reckoning requires that Tiglath-Pileser III
reigned a minimum of 34 years.

The interconnected reigns of Shalmaneser V,
Sargon II, Sennacherib, Merodach-baladan, Esar-
Haddon, Ashurbanipal, Osorkon IV and Taharqa all
begin 11 years too early to synchronise with events
for Judah in the Watch Tower Society's chronology
(in addition to other problems indicated in notes for
individual kings). However, the Watch Tower
Society's chronology for the kings of Israel has a
discrepancy of 17 years during the same period. If
the interconnected reigns are placed another
6 years earlier, in order to better synchronise with
events affecting kings of Israel (and Syria),
problems with the established lengths (but not
starting points) of the reigns of Shalmaneser V &
Esar-Haddon can be resolved. The Watch Tower
Society's reckoning of events relating to Tiglath-
Pileser III cannot be resolved without significantly
distorting the length of his reign.

The established length of his reign can

mentioned in Insight .
The established length of his reign cannot be
reconciled with the Watch Tower Society's
chronology, which asserts that Sennacherib is
king during Hezekiah's 14th year, before
Sargon's attack on Ashdod. The Watch Tower
Society claims Sargon had a shorter reign.
However, an earlier start of Sennacherib's
reign irreconcilably distorts events during the
reign of his successor, Esar-Haddon.
Sargon II
The length of his reign can be reconciled with
the Watch Tower Society's chronology.
However, Merodach-Baladan's letter to
Hezekiah was sent when Merodach-Baladan
was contemporary with Sennacherib. The
discrepancy is a result of the Watch Tower
Society's mishandling of the reigns of
Hezekiah, Sargon II and Sennacherib.

The established length of his reign
cannot be reconciled with the Watch
Tower Society's chronology. Secular
sources assign from 38 to 42 years for
Ashurbanipal's reign. Neither allows
enough time for the subsequent Assyrian
reigns (see note for Ashur-etil-ilani, Sin-
shumu-lishir and Sin-shar-ishkun).
Additionally, his reign should not overlap
that of Nabopolassar.
Nabopolassar actually began to reign
626 BCE.
The established length of his reign
can be reconciled with the Watch
Tower Society's chronology only if
ignoring the fact that his reign
should not overlap that of Necho
II. He is mentioned in Insight as
the father of Necho.
Ashurbanipal actually began to reign
669 BCE.
Sin-shumu-lishir began to reign
no earlier than 626 BCE.

The established length of his reign
cannot be reconciled with the
Watch Tower Society's
chronology. The Watch Tower
Society assigns him a shorter
reign than that given in secular
sources. The anarchy in Assyria
and dominance of Babylonia
account for the absence of
financial records in the latter part
of his reign, when records would
more likely refer to years of
Nabopolassar. He is mentioned in
Part 1 of the Watch Tower
Society's 2011 attempt to defend
607 BCE.
Sin-shar-ishkun began to reign
no earlier than 627 BCE.
Limited records are available for
the reigns of Ashur-etil-ilani and
Sin-shumu-lishir. Their reigns
can be reconciled with the Watch
Tower Society's chronology only if
ignoring their placement relative to
Nabo-polassar. They are
mentioned in Part 1 of the Watch
Tower Society's 2011 attempt to
defend 607 BCE.
Ashur-etil-ilani began to reign no
earlier than 631 BCE.
The established length of his reign
can be reconciled with the Watch
Tower Society's chronology.
Ashur-uballit II actually began to
reign 612 BCE.

The established length of his reign
cannot be reconciled with the
Watch Tower Society's chronology.
The Watch Tower Society does not
account for the years of rivalry
between Hophra and Amasis II,
and extends the reign of Amasis II
to fit its distortion of Babylon's '70
years'.
Amasis II
(Khnemibre)
Neriglissar actually began to reign
560 BCE.
Labashi-Marduk actually began to
reign 556 BCE.
Amasis II deposed Hophra in
570 BCE. After Hophra's death in
567 BCE, Amasis' reign was
legitimised in 566 BCE by marrying
Hophra's daughter.Apries & Amasis II
Apries
(Hophra/Haaibre)
The Watch Tower Society attempts
to cast doubt on the established
lengths of the reigns of Evil-
merodach, Neriglissar and
Labashi-Marduk, but does not
explicitly reject them. The Watch
Tower Society claims that either
the reigns were longer, or there
were other 'unknown' kings to fill its
20-year gap. However,
contemporary Babylonian business
records are known to account for
every year of the Neo-Babylonian
period, including the transitions
between kings.
