Luke 13 10 One Sabbath day as Jesus was teaching in a synagogue, 11 he saw a woman who had been crippled by an evil spirit. She had been bent double for eighteen years and was unable to stand up straight. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, “Dear woman, you are healed of your sickness!” 13 Then he touched her, and instantly she could stand straight. How she praised God!

In his book Replenish, Lance Witt makes some profound observations about this miracle:

It starts when Jesus NOTICES the person in need. Witt states, “All kinds of people are just waiting to be noticed, to have someone pay attention to them. They try to put up walls, but in their loneliness and quiet desperation, they long to be noticed, to be loved.” There is Good News here! Jesus notices you! He cares about you in a personal way.

There is also guidance for ministry. If we are going to minister to people, including our own family, we need to slow down. Witt suggests we practice the following: Look people in the eye Ask questions Leave some space in your daily routine for spontaneous interactions

Hope Church wants to touch people with the love of Jesus. Before Jesus touched this

woman and met her need, he noticed her. Let’s follow His example.

“God’s Power to Transform Your Life: A Study of Romans”

Why should we pay attention to this ancient letter? * Romans explains God’s plan to redeem and restore the world. * Romans is a solid introduction to Christian theology. * This book has literally changed the world! Reach Renew Rejoice

Our Minnesota Conference initiative for congregational development was introduced last week during annual conference session. The initiative, Reach • Renew • Rejoice, challenges us with a call to reach new people, renew the church, and rejoice in what God can and will do through us! The spiritual emphasis and financial contributions through this effort are dedicated to starting new churches and growing existing churches. More specifically, the vision is:

Each year for the next seven years, we will:

Start one new church where demographics and opportunity align

Assist 20 existing churches in revitalizing their ministries Partner with a vital parent church to multiply its ministry beyond its current site.

Tabernacle at Camp Koronis in Paynesville

The building of a new Tabernacle at Koronis - a new gathering place for individuals and families to share faith in community and to experience Christ and enjoy the natural setting. The new Tabernacle will be a place where people of all ages can continue to be touched by God’s wonder-filled creation and come to know Christ, themselves, and each other more deeply. More information in the Narthex.

*Mowing this Summer*

‘Tis the season for mowing lawn! We are in need of

volunteers to use the riding mower to maintain the church

yard. The job usually takes 3-4 hours and we would like it

done on Thursdays or Fridays (there may be some

exceptions for funerals/weddings). There is a sign-up

sheet in the Narthex for anyone interested. Thank you.

VISITATION MINISTRY - Pastor Jan Redman As I sat at the memorial service for Rosie Hacklander and looked at the faces of folks from the church family of Hope UMC, I was reminded how very important a church family is as a means of support, strength, caring, and love. Just a simple presence is such a valuable gift. A few days later, I arrived at Nicollet Place to visit folks, and it was just about time for afternoon Bingo. "Join us!", they said, making room for me at the table and making sure I got my Bingo cards! We played until everyone had won twice, and I had my prizes of a banana and a chocolate bunny! My best prize of all was just being there. If you get a chance, remind yourself of the joy of being present for others. It's the best prize ever.

What is S.O.A.P.? S.O.A.P. stands for Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer. It is a way of getting more out of your time in God's word. How does it work? It's quite simple. Take time everyday to read and reflect on the passage for the day. Underline or note things that jump out at you with special significance. This is the basis for diving deeper and using S.O.A.P. > Scripture: Write out the verse(s) that stuck out to you. > Observation: What did you observe about that verse? This can be one sentence or just some notes you jot down. > Application: How can you apply the observation so that it affects your life today? Write your application down. > Prayer: Write out a prayer to God based on what you just learned and ask him to help you apply this truth in your life. That’s all there is to it!

Children’s Ministries

There’s no release time, no Sunday School, no school, some parents have the summer off or get to cut back their hours. Seems like summer would be boring without all of our regular activities and yet, at least in my family, summer is the busiest time of year. Even with two little kids, we are busy with sporting events, day camps, trips to the lake, swimming lessons, etc. We always mean to make church a priority, but we seem to be around less in the summer and don’t make it as often as we should.

I’ve been thinking about how to incorporate Jesus into our everyday life so our kids can still get some good worship time even if we can’t make it to church. I wanted to share those ideas with you!

Read from a story book Bible every night. Hope has a bunch on hand that we would be happy to give to your family!

Pick one story from the Bible to focus on each week. Take at least one hour during that week to talk about the story and do some activities to help reinforce what they’ve heard.

Watch Veggie Tales movies, Jelly Telly videos, Saddleback Kids videos, God’s Story videos, etc. on Youtube.

Listen to Christian music in the car. If you’re looking for some music resources, Hope has some CDs we’d be willing to share!

Pray each day with our family. Because God is so good!

P.S. Pinterest is LOADED with awesome ideas!!! And Youtube is a great resource filled with kid-friendly music and videos!

P.P.S. If you’d like, I can share my “lesson” plans with you! Just let me know!
