ERYC has been coordinating substance use prevention education in high schools forthe last five years and most recently coordinated a pilot program at one local middleschool. With these funds, ERYC will be able to expand this prevention education toreach more youth younger and encourage healthy lifestyles that are substance free, reducing the potential for youth impaired driving. Funds will also be utilized to offer Drug Impairment Training for EducationalProfessionals. This training will increase school faculty capacity by giving them bettertools and knowledge on recognizing youth impairment and following procedures tolimit youth driving while impaired and reduce this behavior in the future. Lastly, ERYC will work with local law enforcement to coordinate more party patrolsaround key times of the year when there is an increase in youth substance use andimpaired driving. These patrols will support local DUI efforts in addition tosupporting the reduction of youth impaired driving.
