First of all, it will increase public awareness about priority health and behavior issues that impact our youth. With this we will be able to effectively educate local leaders and inform on current public policies. With local, state and national comparisons we will be able to create measurable health goals. A Fond Farewell to a Friend

Sadly, we recently had to say goodbye to oneof own, Candace Eves, as she has recentlyaccepted a position as an HHS Caseworker withEagle County. Candace joined the ERYC teamin September 2011 as the Research andDevelopment Coordinator and has been anintegral part of the coalition's growth. Candace has played a major role in thefinancial stability of the organization, grantwriting and fundraising. Her greatest fundraisingsuccess of the year was her work with Valley

Tastings: Food For Youth where she helped to bring in 30% moreprofit than the previous year. She was also largely involved in community outreach around Amendment 64, creating awareness and educating citizens about theeffects of retail marijuana on schools and youth. You could oftenfind her attending and speaking at city council meetings, educatingcouncil members about the affects on our youth.

The Red Ribbon Project to promote healthier lives by empowering the community to reduce teenagepregnancy, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections

Red Ribbon Project's (RRP) focus on sexual health has helped to contribute to a significant decline inteen births in Eagle County. Teen births have been almost cut in half over the last 4 years. In 2009there were 60 births to teens between the ages of 1519 and in 2012 the number of teen births werereduced to 32. As the only nonprofit organization solely focused on sexual health in Eagle County, they utilize acommunity wide approach that includes broad strategies to reach a majority of youth in thecommunity with skill building opportunities and improved links to services. They are especially proud of their new program directed toward Latino youth, ¡CUÍDATE! ("TakeCare of Yourself"). This program was identified and implemented locally in 2011 as a direct responseto an identified need. As an evidencebased and culturally appropriate program, ¡CUÍDATE! has proven to show a reduction in teenpregnancy. The RRP has also built some strong mutually beneficial relationships with community partners, such as the Eagle County Title X FamilyPlanning Clinic and the Eagle River Youth Coalition (ERYC). The Family Planning Clinic has seen an increase in clients and referrals sincethe RRP's inclusion of their information in schoolbased skill building programs. RRP's collaboration with ERYC's Dinner & DialogueSeries included a focus discussion on RRP's key mission areas entitled Dating & Healthy Relationships.
