Our Lady, Mother of the Church Mission Statement We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, are drawn together through baptism as a part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic community, working together as instruments through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we believe that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, comforts and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and has an important part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we renew our call: ♦ to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist, the primary source of our nourishment and spiritual growth... ♦ to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family, friends, neighbors and workplace... ♦ to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the persecuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved… ♦ to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...

Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ, We celebrate what we believe. The two most important Catholic holidays are Easter and Christmas. Jesus’ incarnation and resurrection. Next in the line is Pentecost. Of course, Pentecost was the Jewish feast, celebrated fif-ty days after Passover, but on that day, when many people came to Jerusa-lem, something unusual happened to those who believed in Jesus. The Ho-ly Spirit was given to Jesus’ disciples. In the power of the Holy Spirit they proclaimed Jesus’ resurrection in many languages, they were no longer afraid of persecutions, they were ready to go the farthest corners of the

world and proclaim the Good News. The Church was born. The new era in the history of sal-vation has begun. Today, we are at this point of our liturgical cycle – Jesus’ mission on Earth is accomplished, and the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit is at work. Without the Holy Spirit we are even not able to say: ‘Jesus is the Lord’. Holy Spirit enlightens us to recognize what is good, what is wicked, to understand the scriptures, to deepen our faith. All the sacraments have that effect because of the Holy Spirit. We see the sacramental signs, but the main action in human hearts is done by the Holy Spirit. I would even say that the Church itself would have been destroyed many times in the two-millennial history by human weakness, but the Holy Spirit inspired many other people to renovate the life and the mission of the Church. If you feel any good inspiration from the Holy Spirit, do not close your heart, your ears, your eyes. Let us call togeth-er – come Holy Spirit, come and renew the face of the earth! We enjoy the birthday of the Church, and we honor her Mother. This Sunday afternoon we celebrate the Patronal Feast of Our Lady, Moth-er of the Church. Whichever Mass you attend, please come for the lunch in Hayes Center after 11 o’clock Mass. There will be something tasty, something funny, something entertaining, something retrospec-tive, and enjoyable for all ages, even unborn shall dance in the womb. May God bless you! Father Andrew

Our Lady, Mother of the Church in your Estate Plans

Be an angel this Pentecost. The Holy Spirit brought the early Church alive by giving individuals gifts that would sustain the Church, but there was a catch, they had to be shared. By sharing the gifts you have been blest with you can keep the Church alive for years to come. To learn how, contact Fr. Andrew or call the Diocesan Office of Stewardship & De-velopment at 312-534-7615.
