Dear Parishioners, Father Piotr Samborski will be celebrating his Farewell Mass of Thanksgiving, next Saturday, June 15, at 5 pm. A reception will follow in the Parish Ministry Center. I'm grateful for his four years of priestly service here at SJB. Fa-ther Samborski is a bright, articulate, and caring priest who takes time to listen and respond as the situation demands. Over the years he has matured in his priestly identity. He faithfully comforted the sick and dying, thoughtfully accom-panied those who mourn, celebrated the blessings of new life at the time of baptism, inspired our young children and their fami-lies, formed the young servers, and walked with the young and old alike in the ordinary events of daily life. Personally, I very much appreciated how he has welcomed me into his circle of family and friends. Being with his immediate family and all the relatives for his First Mass in Siedlce, Poland, will always be a cherished memory for me. I've enjoyed our rounds of golf and his no problem, “I'll do it” approach here at the parish. He was so very kind during the final days of my mother’s illness and death. In fact, it was him who gently woke me up, after tak-ing the call in the middle of the night from my sister, which in-formed me that my mom had taken a turn for the worse. While I was on sabbatical, he took up the leadership role in the parish and school and along with Father Rapcia. This enabled me to get some badly needed rest and relaxation after her funeral. Parishioners, thank you for your witness of faith and all that you have done to develop Fr. Samborski’s priestly identity. The trans-forming, shaping, and making the priestly life and its habits an integral part of his character can never be achieved without the heart of a loving community. Sure, the seminary lays down a road map if you will, a set of rules and guideposts, but you and your loving support helped to transform him into who is today. Please pray for Fr. Samborski as he takes on more responsibility as the administrator of St. Mary of the Woods, Chicago. Certain-ly, there will inevitably be tensions and decisions that have unin-tentional hurtful consequences; that's part of any leader’s life. Once again, hopefully, with your prayerful support, he will learn to follow Jesus more closely, learn to follow the values that are more noble than his own desires, learn to grow in the steadiness of daily commitment. Drodzy parafianie, Ks. Piotr Samborski odprawi Mszę Świętą Pożegnalno-Dziękczynną, w najbliższą sobotę, 15 czerwca, o godzinie 17.00. W centrum parafialnym odbędzie się przyjęcie. Jestem wdzięczny za jego cztery lata służby kapłańskiej tutaj w SJB. Ojciec Samborski jest bystrym, elokwentnym i troskliwym księdzem, który poświęcał czas, aby słuchać i odpowiadać, w zależności od sytuacji. Przez lata dorastał w swojej kapłańskiej tożsamości. Wiernie pocieszał chorych i umierających, z namysłem towarzyszył tym, którzy opłakiwali swoich najbliższych, celebrowali błogosławieństwo nowego życia w czasie chrztu, inspirował i formował nasze małe dzieci i ich rodziny, opiekował się młodymi ministrantami oraz towarzyszył młodszym i starszym w wydarzeniach codziennego ich życia. Osobiście bardzo doceniam to, jak przyjął mnie w swoim kręgu rodziny i przyjaciół. Bycie z najbliższą rodziną i wszystkimi krewnymi na jego pierwszej mszy w Siedlcach, w Polsce, zawsze będzie dla mnie miłym wspomnieniem. Podobały mi się nasze rundy gry w golfa i jego bezproblemowe podejście „Zrobię to” w parafii. Był bardzo miły w ostatnich dniach choroby i śmierci mojej matki. W rzeczywistości to on obudził mnie delikatnie po odebraniu telefonu w środku nocy od mojej siostry, co poinformowało mnie, że stan mojej mamy pogorszył się. Kiedy byłem na urlopie naukowym, objął rolę przywódczą w parafii i szkole wraz z ks. Rapcią. Dzięki temu mogłem odpocząć po pogrzebie. Parafianie, dziękuję za wasze świadectwo wiary i wszystko, co uczyniliście, aby rozwinąć tożsamość kapłańską ks. Samborskiego. Przekształcanie, kształtowanie i formowanie życia kapłańskiego oraz zwyczajów jako integralnej części jego charakteru nie mogą zostać osiągnięte bez kochającego serca wspólnoty. Tak, seminarium określa tzw. mapę drogową, lub jeśli wolisz, zbiór zasad i drogowskazów, ale ty i twoje kochające wsparcie pomogło go przemienić w tego, kim jest dzisiaj. Proszę, módlcie się za ks. Samborskiego, który bierze na siebie większą odpowiedzialność jako administrator St. Mary of the Woods w Chicago. Z pewnością nieuchronnie pojawią się napięcia i decyzje, które mają niezamierzone szkodliwe konsekwencje; to część życia każdego lidera. Po raz kolejny, miejmy nadzieję, dzięki waszemu modlitewnemu wsparciu, nauczy się on bliżej podążać za Jezusem, nauczy się przestrzegać wartości, które są bardziej szlachetne niż jego własne pragnienia, nauczy się wzrastać w stałości codziennego zaangażowania. Statement of Cardinal Cupich on the Passage of Senate Bill 25 June 1, 2019

The passage of Senate Bill 25, eliminating even the minimal lim-itations on abortions under previous law marks a sad moment in our history as a State. We have worked to make the case for a consistent approach to human dignity in Illinois and will contin-ue to do so even as elected officials single out unborn persons for particular disregard. It remains our hope that Illinois will eventu-ally distinguish itself as a safe place that welcomes not only those seeking a new life or second chance, but also the most vul-nerable among us who deserve a chance at life. We are resolved to let women and families in the Chicago area know they have alternatives to abortion. We will continue to provide help during their pregnancies and throughout their jour-ney as parents. Our ministry in Cook and Lake Counties has taught us that when teenagers in underserved communities expe-rience an unplanned pregnancy without proper support, the con-sequences for the health and well-being of mother and child can be grim. But, we have also seen that a brighter outcome is possible when support is provided. Catholic Charities and its partners serve hundreds of young women and developing families every year. They nurture the mother and therefore the baby by providing classes in health and child development. They encourage the new families toward independence by providing childcare and making referrals for education, housing and employment. As a young woman served by a Catholic agency said, “It was like a second family when I came here. My Doula took me to doc-tors’ appointments, explaining what all the papers and proce-dures meant, how my baby was developing, the changes my body was going through and how to eat and exercise to stay healthy.” Today, her son is thriving in the organization’s early childhood program and its family support program helps her stay on track with personal goals. She will begin a bachelor’s degree program this summer. With loving encouragement, she has turned stress-ful circumstances into a positive, hopeful future for herself and her son. Women have a real choice when they are given the support they need to bring their children into the world and parent them, sup-ported by a society that truly values them. We will give that sup-port to all who seek it in the hope that by offering them a choice, we will build stronger families and a better Illinois.

Oświadczenie kardynała Błażeja J. Cupicha, arcybiskupa Chicago, na temat przyjęcia przez Senat ustawy znanej jako Bill 25 1 czerwca 2019 r. Młoda kobieta, która korzystała z posług oferowanych przez katolicką agencję, powiedziała: „Kiedy przyjechałam tutaj, poczułam się jak w drugiej rodzinie. Moja położna towarzyszyła mi podczas wizyt u lekarzy, wyjaśniała formularze i procedury, tłumaczyła, jak rozwija się moje dziecko, jakie zmiany przechodzi moje ciało i jak właściwie należy się odżywiać i ćwiczyć, aby zachować zdrowie”. Dziś syn tej kobiety świetnie się rozwija korzystając z zajęć w ramach programu wczesnego dzieciństwa, a program pomocy rodzinie pomaga matce w realizacji osobistych celów. Tego lata ta młoda kobieta rozpocznie studia licencjackie. Dzięki pełnej miłości zachęcie zmieniła ona stresujące czynniki w pozytywną, pełną nadziei przyszłość dla siebie i swojego syna. Kobiety mają prawdziwy wybór, gdy udzielane jest im wsparcie, jakiego potrzebują, aby wydawać na świat dzieci i wychować je przy wsparciu społeczeństwa, które naprawdę je ceni. Wszystkim, którzy szukają tego wsparcia, udzielimy go z nadzieją, że oferując wybór, budujemy silniejsze rodziny i lepszy stan Illinois

We need your support! The cost of the windows and frames is $185,521. United Skys of Round Lake, Illinois, won the contract with the lowest bid. They are considered one of the best in the industry for skylights, canopies, and verti-cal glazing; see their website, unitedskys.com, for more details. They will manufacture and install the windows and the new aluminum panels that will re-place the plywood panels. Total cost including architectural fees, engineering design, city permits and a 20 percent contingency is $231,448. We have collected $181,448 thanks to your generosity. SJB Children’s Liturgy of the Word Children’s Liturgy of the Word offers an experience for children to hear Scripture in words they understand and to share their own understanding of God’s word. We warmly invite all children in the parish to participate in the Children’s Liturgy of he Word. All parents, please encourage your children to join when the clergy invites them to come for-ward to hear the good news of the Lord. The Children’s Liturgy of the Word ministry will begin again in September of 2019. We welcome all of our children ages 6-10 to participate!

Catholic Women’s Club & Holy Name Men’s Club

On Monday, June 10th at 7:00 PM, the officers and board members of the Catholic Women's Club and the Holy Name Men's Club will be in-stalled at Mass in the chapel of the church. All members of these clubs are invited to join us in support and prayer for those who have accepted these responsibilities for 2019-2020. Light refreshments will be served after the Mass.

UNCLE PETE’S SACK DINNERS

Each month Uncle Pete’s Sack Dinner Ministry provides over 400 meals to those less fortunate in the Chicagoland area. Some of the locations served in-clude Deborah's Place, Franciscan Shelter, Mother Theresa Sisters of Charity Soup Kitchen, St. Leonard and Grace House. These places in need could use as many as 800 meals each month! You’re involvement would be greatly appreci-ated … and it’s easy. On June 15th and 16th, at all the weekend Masses, brown

bags and sack guidelines will be available at tables as you exit the church. You simply need to fill the bags and return them to the front of church on the morning of Tuesday, June 25th, between 5:45 AM and 9:00 AM. We need your help - Please consider being a part of this very worthwhile ministry.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Our ministry is looking for volunteers to help distribute bags after the Masses. If you’re available to help for a few minutes each month, please contact Dan Vonder Heide at 773.910.5536.
