Dear Parishioners,

Catholic Schools Week starts next Sunday. I hope you take the me to visit our school during the open house and listen to the many new academic ini a-

ves and ministries that take place each day. Dr. Mary Maloney and her staff of teachers and parent leadership are most proud of what they have accom-plished through your support.

Catholic Educa on is not private educa on, but ra-ther its role in the faith community is to promote and support the forma on of prac ces and choices that will compose and shape children’s en re lives. The Catholic School provides young children with substan-

ve norma ve bearings, standards, and impera ves to guide their life choices and prac ces.

A few of these virtues and values are as follows: working always for the common good, seeking recon-cilia on instead of vengeance, respec ng the dignity of others because they are made in the image of God, ac ng honestly and fairly even when at cost to one-self, and giving to the poor.

All of the above named values and virtues are rooted in the belief that Christ loves us and gives us the grace to be his disciples. Christ, a real historical figure, invites us into a rela onship with him. Christ desires that all his children have a full life, rich with blessing, a life of joy, peace, and love.

Our school strives to give children the “tools of the trade.” It forms them in the ways of prayer, medita-

on, and forgiveness, and creates trust in divine Prov-idence and the Sacramental life of the Church, espe-cially the Sunday Eucharist. All these simple prac ces are there to enable us to stay close to Christ and one another.

With the Lord and the community of faith we have the moral, spiritual, and emo onal strength to deal with the stresses and problems of life. All this tends to work towards posi ve, construc ve outcomes in young people’s lives.

Peace, and thank you for your support of Catholic Schools,

Father Mike Meany

Formuje je na drodze modlitwy, medytacji i przebaczen-ia, i buduje zaufanie do Bożej Opatrzności i sakramental-nego życia Kościoła, a zwłaszcza do Niedzielnej Eucha-rys i. Wszystkie te proste praktyki są po to, abyśmy mogli pozostać blisko Chrystusa i siebie nawzajem. Wraz z Panem i wspólnotą wiary mamy moralną, du-chową i emocjonalną siłę, by poradzić sobie ze stresem i problemami życia. Wszystko to działa na rzecz pozytywnych, konstruktywnych wyników w życiu młod-ych ludzi. Pokój z Wami. Dziękuję za wsparcie szkół katolickich, Ks. Mike Meany

Scripture Study

Plan to attend our Lenten Scripture study session, beginning Sunday, February 17, 2019. We will explore the book of Revelations. This study invites the modern reader to revisit a volatile pe-riod of history through apocalyptic, symbolic writing. Enter into the struggle between good and evil, hear the call to conversion, and experience God’s ultimate triumph. Revelation’s apocalyptic imagery, symbolic colors and numbers are explored. The evils of the Roman Empire during a specific period of time persecution are behind much of the apocalyptic imagery. It contains letters to seven churches of Asia Minor (modern Turkey), which urge faithfulness to Christ. Powerful visions of God and the victorious lamb in heaven are unveiled as God and the lamb achieve the ultimate and absolute victory over evil, culminating in a new heaven and a new earth with a new Jerusalem as home to God’s holy people.

There are 8 sessions leading up to Easter. We will begin on Sunday 02/17/19. We meet every Sunday from 10:00 am – Noon. Fee is $10.00 which includes study material. Please contact Chester Gilbert for information at: 847-966-4789 or [email protected]

Our JSB Youth ministry members had a won-derful meeting last Sun-day! The topic of our meeting was the Sacra-ment of Holy Baptism. Fr. Przemek gave us a beautiful explanation about Baptism through the dogma of the Catho-lic Church and through experience in his ministry. The wonderful testimony by Derek and Chloe has enriched our view of the meaning of Baptism. Inspiring state-ments about our faith expressed in the Apostolic Creed's prayer were written on the boards. We went home with gratitude that God has joined us through Baptism into one Church.

We cordially invite all youth to the next meeting that will take place on February 3 starting at the Mass at 6:00 pm. The Youth Life Evening starts in the Youth Ministry Room in the SJB School at 7 pm. For more information, please call Krystyna Sobocinska at: 847-966-9815

THANK YOU! Also, a big “Thank You” to the youth group from Saint Ferdinand Church for a wonderful and spectacu-lar Nativity play last Sunday during the 12:30 pm Mass. A group of 35 students, along with Krystyna Sobocinska, our Youth Ministry Coordinator, present-ed the story of the coming of the Messiah from the be-ginning of creation.

Ministers of Care Needed! Our Ministry of Care group is looking for more people to join us in helping the homebound to be able to re-ceive the Holy Eucharist. We are blessed to have 14 ministers, but we need more. This is a very rewarding ministry. The visits take about 12 to 15 minutes, and consist of short prayers, reading the Gospel, and distributing communion. Our homebound parishioners truly look forward to receiving Jesus. Father Przemek will be offering training sessions beginning in February. Please give this ministry serious thought. If you have questions, please call the parish office at 847-966-8145 and leave a message for me, or return the form below to the office. Thank you, Ann Zalak , Coordinator, Ministry of Care

Starting on the weekend of January 5-6, we are again asking our parish-ioners to participate in this special fund-raiser to help women in crisis pregnancies by supporting the pro-life work of the Catholic-run Wom-en's Centers of Greater Chicago-land. Baby bottles will be found in main entrances of the church for you to take home and fill with spare change. Any checks should be made out directly to The Women's Cen-ters. Over the prior 13 years our parish has already raised over $239,000 which helped to save 240 babies, who are now living out their lives amongst us. Many of them in turn will have children of their own. Con-tinuing in the spirit of Christmas, let our parishioners of all ages, in-cluding the children, work together to save even more little lives. Please return the bottles before any of the masses on the weekend of February 9-10. Please take one bottle per family. Extras will be available in the back of the church the next couple of weekends if you fill up your first one. Thank you for participating in this worthy cause.
