FAME vs SUCCESS

There is a story of a singer, well known in his locality, who was on a holiday with his wife and kids in another part of the country. It was raining one of the days, so the singer, his wife and four kids went to a nearby movie. When they arrived, the lights were on and there were about ten people in the seats.

When they entered, all the ten people jumped to their feet and applauded loudly. The singer was thrilled to be recognized so far away from home. He gestures at them smilingly and waves wildly. A man came over and shook his hand and the singer said, “ I am just amazed that you should recognize me so far away from home and give me a standing ovation”.

“Recognize you ?” said the man. “ I haven’t a clue who the hell you are. All I know is that the manager of the cinema said he would show the film only if six more people turned up”.

Moral : Worldly fame is so fleeting. It vanishes like the hollow bubbles. Wise men never count on it. Talent is God-given. So be grateful. Fame is man-given. So be humble. Conceit is self-given. So be careful. And, never confuse fame with success. Madonna is one. Helen Keller is the other.

THE MIRROR EXERCISE

How many of us fail to applaud ourselves for the successes we achieve each day - whether big or small - simply because we are so unaccustomed to receiving praise and acknowledgement in general ? Here is a great technique which can help people become more open to receive validation and praise - and therefore be more willing to accomplish praise worthy acts.

Called The Mirror Exercise, it is based on the theory that we all need acknowledgement, but most importantly from ourselves. If we do not think our successes are worthwhile, why on earth would we bother to achieve anything worthwhile ?

The Mirror Exercise gives your sub conscious mind the positive “strokes” it needs to pursue further achievements. It helps change any negative beliefs we have toward praise and accomplishment and puts us in an achieving frame of mind.

Preparation

Set aside a couple of minutes daily, towards the end of the day when you can spare some quiet time. Step in to a room with a mirror and request your people not to disturb you.. Tell them it is your Mirror Exercise time. Relax yourself, mentally and physically. Recollect any achievement you have achieved that day - big or

-3-trivial - it does not matter. May be you successfully completed a deadline or accomplished a project. May be you helped somebody in the office or on the road.

Now, Begin Acknowledging Yourself

When you are ready, stand or sit in front of the mirror and begin by saying “Good Evening. I want to appreciate you for the following things today. “ Then acknowledge yourself for everything you did that was a success.

If you were doing it tonight, it will read something like this - “Okay, you got up early, reached office on time, were friendly with your co-workers, got that order from so and so. You negotiated well with the client, handled the staff meeting without losing your temper. You went to lunch and stayed on to your diet. You exercised/played football in the evening and kept your body in shape. At home, you spent quality time with your kids. You watched one hour of TV instead of two.” And then you look yourself in the eye (and this is the hardest part) and say “One more thing (insert your name), I want you to know that I really love you”.

The first time you do this exercise, you will feel awkward, strange, weird and may be lots of other things as well. You may hear little voices in your head saying “This is outright stupid”. Very few of know what it is like to totally acknowledge ourselves. While you may be uncomfortable in the beginning, keep doing it. We have had lot of people confiding how much better and confident they feel about themselves and others after doing this exercise just a week or less.

Ideally, we want you to do the Mirror Exercise diligently for at least three months. After 90 days of telling yourself how successful you are, will there be any question that you truly are? Or that you can go on to succeed even more ?

7 USEFUL PRACTICES TO KICK START YOUR DAY

Our hectic lifestyles often have us running around in circles wondering what to do next. It’s not that we don’t have an agenda in place; it’s that we often feel scattered or derailed when a wrench is thrown into the plans.

Here are 7 useful practices to kick start your day no matter what happens to threaten your sanity! You can implement some, one, or any combination of them into your daily routine. Either way it’s bound to give you a boost!

1. Upon rising take a minute or two to stretch: According to the Mayo Clinic, stretching increases muscle flexibility, which improves daily performance and overall movement. It also increases blood flow to your muscles and your brain, while at the same time it relaxes you, thus easing tension and stress.

2. Take a moment for mindfulness reflection: After stretching, slow down your breathing by taking in a few deep breaths and then concentrate on how you feel, what you see, and what you smell. Not only will being mindful sharpen your senses, it will help prepare you for the day ahead by increasing your awareness and ability to focus.

3. Have a little book of inspirational quotes or passages handy: Have some inspirational quotes handy from which you can choose one appropriate for the day ahead. For example:

“A wise man will make more opportunities than he finds” Francis Bacon

“In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins - not through strength, but through persistence.” Buddha

Whose day wouldn’t hold promise with a fresh, bold attitude to begin it?

-5-4. Visualize a successful outcome for the day: Go over what

you want to accomplish for the day and visualize it turning out well. Of course there are always little glitches to contend with, so see yourself dealing successfully with anything that may threaten to get in the way. Visualizing is a great way to anticipate what lies ahead and alerts you to any possibilities. Indeed research has shown that both physical and psychological reactions in certain situations can be significantly improved with visualization. An advantage indeed!

5. Take a moment for gratitude: Acknowledge all the good things going for you – your health, your family, your opportunities and everything else going well in your life. When you appreciate what you have, somehow more good things find their way to you. Likewise, studies have shown that maintaining a sense of gratitude can help you sustain a more positive mood and sense of well being throughout the day.

6. Let go of any negative thoughts or grudges you may be harboring: Know that harboring ill feelings or negativity towards someone will only drag you down and prevent you from being at your best. Keeping your head clear will leave room for creativity and all the productive things you want to accomplish for the day.

Letting go and forgiving others is also good for your heart. A study from the Journal of Behavioral Medicine found forgiveness and letting go to be associated with a lower heart rate and blood pressure as well as relieving stress. Having a healthy heart and mind would certainly help anyone’s overall performance on a daily basis.

7. Come up with a personal positive affirmation to motivate you: Invent a slogan, or saying, that pertains to you and will inspire you to be at your best. It could be something like, “I endeavor to make a positive difference whenever I can,” or, “Challenges help me grow”. It has been shown that positive affirmations (realistic

-6-

ones, of course) serve as a great tool to program your subconscious mind to help you perform well and have a productive mindset.

As many athletes, performers, business people and politicians can attest to, there are many little techniques you can employ to help you rise to an occasion - in this case to positively kick start your day. So why not begin every day with these helpful little practices?

SUCCESS STATE EXERCISES

(Very powerful NLP exercises which will lead you into great states and empower you in all aspects of life. From “Conversations” by Richard Bandler and Owen Fitzpatrick)

These tasks need to be performed on a ongoing basis, consistently:

1. Awareness

Spend five minutes every day paying attention to what you see, hear and feel in the world, noticing the differences that exist. Notice the difference between what you can see, hear and feel on the outside and be aware of how you are thinking on the inside.

2. Openness

Spend five minutes everyday taking a belief that you have about something in the world and practice looking at it from the opposite point of view. Construct as many arguments as possible thinking about it from different perspectives.

3. Curiosity

Begin to ask more questions of everything. Read more books. Find the people who do things you really admire and ask them how they do it. Realise you can learn from everything. When you

-7-meet people from a different background than your own, find out about their culture. Have and ask enough questions to gain a good understanding of it.

4. Flexibility

Every day practice new things. Try new meals in restaurants, try new routes to and from work. Take up something you have never tried before and give it a go. At least once a week do something that you have not done before.

5. Determination

Every time you don’t get what you want, simply focus on what you want and change your approach and start again. Keep going and only focus on how good it will feel once you’ve done it. Avoid the possibility that it might not be achieved.

6. Pragmatism

Practise repeating the question: ‘What is the most useful thing to do now?’ Each time you come face to face with a problem repeat this question.

7. Responsibility

Whenever a problem crops up, always ask the question: ‘What can I do now?’. Make this a habit too.

8. Creativity

Once a week, spend 20 minutes and take three ideas which have nothing to do with each other and invent some new product or philosophy from combining them. No matter how ridiculous it seems at first, practice engaging this exercise.

-8-THE POWER OF DISCIPLINE

7 Ways It Can Change Your Life - by Brian Tracy

“No steam or gas drives anything until it is confined. No Niagara is ever turned into light and power until it is tunneled. No life ever grows great until it is focused, dedicated and disciplined.”

~Harry E. Fosdick

Self-discipline and self-motivation are joined at the hip. Why is that? When you practice self-discipline you feel like you are in control of your life. You feel content and motivated because you’re moving toward your goals.

.”If I had to pick the #1 key to success, it would be...self-discipline. It is the difference in winning or losing; between greatness and mediocrity.”

Why are some people more successful than others? Why do some people make more money, live happier lives and accomplish much more in the same number of years than the great majority?

I started out in life with few advantages. I did not graduate from high school. I worked at menial jobs. I had limited education, limited skills and a limited future.

And then I began asking, “Why are some people more successful than others?” This question changed my life.

Over the years, I have read thousands of books and articles on the subjects of success and achievement. It seems that the reasons for these accomplishments have been discussed and written about for more than two thousand years, in every conceivable way. One quality that most philosophers, teachers and experts agree on is the importance of self-discipline. As Al Tomsik summarized it years ago, “Success is tons of discipline.”

-9-Some years ago, I attended a conference in Washington. It was

the lunch break and I was eating at a nearby food fair. The area was crowded and I sat down at the last open table by myself, even though it was a table for four.

A few minutes later, an older gentleman and a younger woman who was his assistant came along carrying trays of food, obviously looking for a place to sit.

With plenty of room at my table, I immediately arose and invited the older gentleman to join me. He was hesitant, but I insisted. Finally, thanking me as he sat down, we began to chat over lunch.

It turned out that his name was Kop Kopmeyer. As it happened, I immediately knew who he was. He was a legend in the field of success and achievement. Kop Kopmeyer had written four large books, each of which contained 250 success principles that he had derived from more than fifty years of research and study. I had read all four books from cover to cover, more than once.

After we had chatted for awhile, I asked him the question that many people in this situation would ask, “Of all the one thousand success principles that you have discovered, which do you think is the most important?”

He smiled at me with a twinkle in his eye, as if he had been asked this question many times, and replied, without hesitating, “The most important success principle of all was stated by Thomas Huxley many years ago. He said, ‘Do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.’”

He went on to say, “There are 999 other success principles that I have found in my reading and experience, but without self-discipline, none of them work.”

Self-discipline is the key to personal greatness. It is the magic quality that opens all doors for you, and makes everything else

-10-

possible. With self-discipline, the average person can rise as far and as fast as his talents and intelligence can take him. But without self-discipline, a person with every blessing of background, education and opportunity will seldom rise above mediocrity.

“I realized that success is not a one-time act or a moment of luck and that “Overnight Success” is never true. Success is created through a habit caused by proper self-discipline. It is simply an act of cultivation. It requires you to connect today’s actions to tomorrow’s results. There’s a season for sowing and a season for reaping. Self-discipline helps you know which is which”.

7 BEST LIFE LESSONS FROM THE LEGENDARY BRUCE LEE

Bruce Lee is an iconic figure who should need no introduction. The screen presence that the man possessed was undeniable. Lee influenced the generations after him in multiple ways. Though he is probably most famous as a martial artist and a movie star, Lee also had an incredible outlook on life. Many of his quotes and overall philosophy on how to live life are still inspiring people today. Let us take a look at some of the advice Lee had to give.

1. Get up and do it.“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough;

we must do.”

Possessing the knowledge of something is a good starting point, but in order to actually achieve anything in this world you must apply that knowledge to your actions. There are those who dream and then there are those who make dreams a reality. When you

-11-commit to taking action in your life you can do great things. The first step to greatness is simply putting one foot in front of the other.

2. Thoughts are important.“As you think, so shall you become.”A person’s thoughts determine so much about them. What

you go around thinking about others, the world around you and especially about yourself helps to mould your perception of the world. The way you perceive things affects you in such a way so as to guide your actions. A confident individual who believes in his abilities and affirms his capability is more likely to succeed in life.

3. Blind anger will get you nowhere.“A quick temper will make a fool of you soon enough.”Being quick to anger is not a good trait to possess. When you

let your temper control you, you become a reckless person who winds up making many mistakes. Cooler heads prevail. When you look at something from a calm standpoint, the results you get will be better. Being in control of your emotions will always allow you to come out the better man or woman.

4. Live for yourself.“I’m not in this world to live up to your expectations and you’re

not in this world to live up to mine.”In life you should strive to live by your own standards. There are

so many people in the world that worry about what others think of them. If you live your life just to impress others or try to meet their expectations, then you are ignoring your own individuality. Humans are individual creatures. We possess unique abilities, thoughts and feelings. Life should be explored thoroughly in the pursuit of happiness for the self. Oftentimes personal happiness includes the happiness of those close to you, but ultimately you should be your biggest critic and judge, not others.

-12-5. Time is finite.

“If you love life, don’t waste time, for time is what life is made up of.”

Time moves forward at the same pace for all. It will slow down for no man, and no man can truly know how much time he has. Time is a very precious thing, just like life itself. Live in the moment and don’t take things for granted. Everything that you do should be enjoyed, because you never know when your time will be up. When you waste time, you are cheating yourself out of precious time. Make sure that your time is being spent wisely towards your own ends.

6. Be flexible in life.“Notice that the stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the

bamboo or willow survives by bending in the wind.”When you hold fast to certain plans or old ways, you can

be doing yourself a disservice. The world is ever changing and presents many new challenges. When these challenges present themselves, being rigid and sticking to your old ways will not allow you to come through unscathed. If you can be flexible like the bamboo bending in the wind, you will not crack from the pressure. Your mind needs to be able to adapt in life. When new problems arise be ready to meet them. Rigid business models are the most susceptible to sudden failure. Flexibility is formidability.

7. Simplify your life.“It’s not the daily increase but the daily decrease. Hack away

at the unessential.”In life it can be easy to get wrapped up in so many different

things. When you take a step back and truly look at your life, you might be surprised to find that there are many unessential elements that could be cut out to save time for truly important things. By streamlining your life you can increase your quality of life. When

-13-you can live your life with a conviction to focus on the things that matter to you, you can get so much accomplished.

There we have it. As you can see, Bruce Lee was quite the philosopher. He had many great ideas on how to live better life, and how people can be inspired to make changes in their own lives. At their core, these are very practical. Take heed to these words if the meaning behind them touches you. You might find that you can glean some new happiness in life because of it.

For many, they discover the secret to achieving success lies in an old yet extremely life-changing concept known as Pelmanism.

It has helped tens and thousands of people… and it might just help you.

PRECISE COMMUNICATION

Professor Ernest Brennecke of Columbia University is credited with inventing a sentence that can be made to have eight different meanings by placing ONE WORD in all possible positions in the sentence: “I hit him in the eye yesterday.”

1. ONLY I hit him in the eye yesterday. (No one else did.)2. I ONLY hit him in the eye yesterday. (Did not slap him.)3. I hit ONLY him in the eye yesterday. (I did not hit others.)4. I hit him ONLY in the eye yesterday. (I did not hit outside the eye.)5. I hit him in ONLY the eye yesterday. (Not other organs.)6. I hit him in the ONLY eye yesterday. (He doesn’t have another eye..)7. I hit him in the eye ONLY yesterday. (Not today.)8. I hit him in the eye yesterday ONLY. (Did not wait for today.)

This is why it is important to be precise!

-14-WHY DO PEOPLE SHOUT IN ANGER ?

A saint asked his disciples, ‘Why do we shout in anger? Why do people shout at each other when they are upset?’

Disciples thought for a while; then, one of them said, ‘Because we lose our calm, we shout .’ ‘But, why to shout when the other person is just next to you?’ asked the saint. ‘Isn’t it possible to speak to him or her in a normal voice? Why do you shout at a person when you’re angry?’

Disciples gave some other answers but none satisfied the saint.

Finally, he explained, ‘When two people are angry at each other, their hearts get distanced. To cover that distance they must shout so as to hear each other. The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other through that much more distance.’

Then the saint asked, ‘What happens when two people fall in love? They don’t shout at each other but talk softly, why? Because their hearts are very close. The distance between them is very small...’

The saint continued, ‘When they love each other even more, what happens? They do not speak, only whisper; they get closer to each other in their love.

Finally, they even need not whisper, they only look at each other and that’s all. That is how close two people are when they love each other.’

MORAL: When you argue do not let your hearts get distant, do not say words that distance each other more, else there will come a day when the distance is so great that you will not find the path to return.

-15-EVEN LITTLE THINGS HAVE PURPOSE

You do remember the “TWIN TOWERS”? The 3,000+ people who died that day?

Below is actual stuff that happened that sad day. It was just not their time to die. Thats all.The events narrated are really something to ponder. I guess we are all lucky in all different ways. And now the “LITTLE THINGS”...

As you might remember, the head of a company survived 9/11.Because his son started kindergarten right on that morning.

Another fellow was alive because it was his turn to bring donuts to his family of eight. One woman was late because her alarm clock didn’t go off in time.

One was late because of being stuck on the NJ Turnpike freeway because of an auto accident. One of them missed his bus. One spilled food on her clothes and had to take. Time to change.

One’s Car wouldn’t start. One couldn’t Get a taxi on time. The one that struck me was the man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning, Took various means to get to work. But before he got there, he developed a sore blister on his foot. He stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid. That is why he is alive today.

Next time your morning seems to be Going wrong, You can’t seem to find the car keys, You hit every traffic light, Don’t get mad or frustrated;

It May be just that God is at work watching over you. May God continue to bless you with all those annoying little things. And may you remember their possible purposes.
