June 2020

For an emergency call 911, not the Tidewater Gatehouse

President’s Message Cathy Weis, BOD President

Unfortunately, we are still in the midst of the global pandemic of COVID-19, however, slowly around the world countries and states within the U.S. are reopening on a limited basis. In South Carolina, short term rentals are now allowed and even visitors from the “hot spots” are welcomed. Restaurants are opening, first limited to outdoor dining, then inside as well, but with strict protocol and restrictions. Clearly, since we are a tourist location and with the increased crowding, we are bound to see an uptick of cases in our area. Therefore, it remains critically important that we adhere to the following:

• If you are frightened, stay home.

• If your immune system is compromised in any way, stay home.

• Wash your hands frequently, especially after handling packages or returning from the store.

• Wear a mask in public; this is respectful to others as you may be an asymptomatic carrier.

• Continue to social distance; it is best to stay 6’ apart and don’t gather in large groups.

We opened our beach Cabana parking lots when the public access to the beach was opened.

Immediately thereafter with the first beautiful weekend and the ability to venture outdoors after a long quarantine, many complaints were received from residents who could not find a place to park. Please remember:

• Only one car per unit is allowed at any time.

• Your RFID’s will operate the gate at the Cabana.

• For the auxiliary lot, Tidewater residents with a RFID tag and a Tidewater sticker, or approved and registered family members (children, grandchildren) with the appropriate pass are allowed; the passes are provided by our Security Guards at the main entrance.

• Saving spaces for others is not allowed; it is first come, first serve.

We are planning to install a gate at the auxiliary lot and have selected a vendor, but activation will be delayed due to the implementation of our new “access control” system which is being programmed and tested. It could be a while before this is activated so we ask for your patience. Until then, we plan to place a temporary guard at the auxiliary lot to monitor access.

We will continue to take guidance from the state and city regarding opening our facilities fully. Amenities like the pools, spas and the gym are governed by the state. We will notify

everyone as amenities are reopened.

Our new mailboxes have been installed and look great! Thank you to Steve Koury and his team for a great job. They really spruce up the neighborhood!

Enjoy your June and Happy Fathers’ Day to all of our dads!

Property Management MessageChelsa Fenner, CMCA, AMS, Community Manager

I am excited to announce that in May I was notified that I received my Professional Community Association Management (PCAM) designation through CAI (Community Associations Institute). CAI considers this the pinnacle of community association management and it is the highest professional recognition available nationwide to managers. In order to obtain this designation, I had to participate in a Case Study of another community. About 25 managers from across the country were onsite at a community for two days and had the opportunity to interview the onsite management team, the Board of Directors, the Association’s attorney, insurance representative, auditor, and various Association professionals. At the end of the two days, we were presented with a list of essay questions to answer regarding the community. We were told this would be similar to a graduate thesis, and would include all aspects of the community, anything from their insurance policy to their committee interaction. My submission ended up being a whopping 127 pages, and I passed! Needless to say, I am very proud and excited.

As we head into June, we also head into hurricane season. Please start making preparations now rather than waiting. Please take a look at the TPCA Emergency Plan, which is on the website. There is an abundance of relevant information for hurricane preparation. It can be found at: https://www.tidewaterplantation.org/index.php/latest-news/387-tpca-emergency-plan.

Below are some general reminders:

• Please, no fishing in any of the Tidewater ponds.

• There should be no soccer, volleyball, etc. played on the golf course.

• We request that you be considerate of your neighbors when it comes to outdoor lighting. Some of the newer LED lights are quite bright and residents do not realize their lights may be pointing slightly towards a neighbor’s window, or may be reflecting off of a body of water nearby.

• Both parking lots at the Beach Cabana are open to all Property Owners. The auxiliary parking lot at the Beach Cabana is open to the immediate family members of Property Owners (parents, children and grandchildren) and their vehicles must have a special pass on the dashboard of the vehicle. This pass can be obtained from Security at the front gate. In order to obtain this pass, immediate family guests must be registered in our system. For more information on registering your immediate family guests, please contact the onsite management office at 843-663-3500. Also, please remember that there should only be one car parked per unit/lot.

• The speed limit is 20 MPH throughout the community.

• If you are not getting our email blasts and would like to receive them, please reach out to me at [email protected].

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandpas, stepdads and father figures. What would we do without you?

Summer is close to being back in full swing, and although sporadic, we should be seeing more openings throughout the area. Remember that social distancing is still important so make sure that we are all still taking safe precautions regarding the virus and our surroundings. Information and updates are continually changing and coming in so be sure that you are checking your email and following all of the local executive orders from the governor at https://governor.sc.gov/executive-branch/executive-orders. The CDC has also created educational posters, videos, factsheets, and intervention training materials to help you contribute to prevention efforts. These free materials are available in multiple languages for you to distribute, post and circulate as you deem appropriate. http://www.cdc.gov/nonpharmaceutical-interventions/tools-resources/educational-materials.html

Teal Lake VillageTeal Lake Village has now completed the construction phase of the staircase project and is moving to the painting phase. Although it is not an executive order, we would like to ask that all residents be thoughtful when using the elevators, as we do not want to confine multiple groups in such a small space at one time. The next Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 16 at 3PM in the Cassels Building. The Lighthouse Point Villas Landscape Committee is going to be a huge asset to the overall overview and beautification of the community so please come out and join if at all possible. This would be a great opportunity to take part in this community effort and join your neighbors in the betterment of Lighthouse Point Villas.

Artisans of Tidewater Marilyn Drange

Everyday life is looking a lot different these days. Unfortunately, the seriousness of COVID-19 is still the new norm of the day. Therefore, we will continue to cancel all programs and workshops until we find out when it is safe to resume. While this situation hasn’t been easy on anyone, let’s stay connected, stay crafty, and bring positivity and kindness into the world.

There is an online watercolor painting class taught by Cindra Marshall available. The cost is $10 per person for each 90 minute class taken during the Facebook Live sessions at 1- 2:30PM EDT each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday- or taken by painting along with the videos posted after those live classes. Venmo or Zelle are both accepted for payments; and although there is no commitment to attend every class, when you do take one, please pay promptly. Discounts are available for multiple classes taken each week.

Since you are painting from home, basic watercolor supplies are needed. If you would like help with what to order or have any questions, please email Cindra Marshall at [email protected] or message her through Facebook at Cindra’s Art Room to join the group.

Have fun and enjoy some creative time. Looking forward to getting together once again and sharing our talents.

Potential Community Yard SaleMary Lou Convery

We are considering having a Tidewater Community Yard Sale when hopefully our restrictions will be somewhat less severe. It will be held the first week of August when the golf course is closed thus restricting outside visitors. Anyone wishing to work on this should contact me, Mary Lou Convery, by email: [email protected].
