Message from the Executive Director Dear families,

As the warm weather is here, our residents and staff are so pleased for the opportunity to get a little fresh air and spend time outside (staying on the property, of course).

This also brings up the question we are hearing often from our families: can I come and visit my loved one? We appreciate how important it is for families and residents to spend time together. That’s why we’ve been working so hard these past weeks to connect families and loved ones through virtual visits.

At the same time, we know nothing replaces an in-person visit. We recently launched a survey asking your thoughts on where we’ve done well and how we can do better. Please take a few moments to complete the questionnaire as your answers will help inform our communications, and our plans for safe, socially distanced outdoor visits. More info to come soon.

On another positive note, our staff are doing a great job of keeping that “iron ring” of protection around residents, with all enhanced infection control measures and precautions in place. We are also working with our health system partners wherever possible to review our practices and look for opportunities to improve. Most recently we had a very good IPAC assessment from Norfolk General Hospital and have taken action on any suggestions made by the team.

Life is different for everyone since COVID. What hasn’t changed in our Home is our focus on great care, keeping residents engaged and families connected, and finding ways to bring a smile to our residents’ faces each and every day. Don’t forget to visit our Facebook page – it will make you smile too!

Sincerely,

Brent Morrison

Skype and Facetime Over the past few weeks, the Recreation Team has been keeping very busy facilitating Skype and Facetime Visits for residents and their families to stay connected. We are encouraging family members who are wanting to “see” and talk to their loved one, to participate in Skype or Facetime Visits. It’s very easy, and if you are having trouble, the Recreation Team can walk you through it!

[email protected] We are asking that families try and schedule calls 1 day in advance. It can be difficult to accommodate last minute calls, as the Recreation Team is still providing small group programming throughout the day and this will allow the Recreation Team to book visits around the scheduled programs.

A handy tip: Consider booking multiple calls at a

time Example: Want to talk every Wednesday at 1pm? Let us know at the time of booking!

We will call you. Please be available 15 minutes before

or after your call if we are a few minutes late. Thank you for being so great about our new endeavours
