PeerGroups Offer Collaborative Approach for Businesses
ThispastJanuary,ourPeerGroupslaunchedattheChamber.Meetingonceamonth,thePeerGroupsbringtogetheraselectionofbusinessestoformanongoingadvisorygroupfornetworking,professionaldevelopmentandacollaborativeapproachinwhichallcanthrive.
Asdifferentbusinesshavedifferentneeds,welaunchedtwoPeerGroups–oneforsmallbusinessesfrom1to5employees(SOHO&SmallBusinessPeerGroup)andanotherforbusinessesinthe6–25employeerange(SMEPeerGroup).ThesegroupsarecurrentlyupandrunningattheChamberandweareopeningupasecondSOHO&SmallBusinessPeerGrouptoaccommodateadditionalmemberbusinesses.
Wecouldnotdeliverthisbenefittomemberswithoutourdedicatedmemberswhohaveprovidedtheirtimeand
insightstothePeerGroups.Inadditiontothemonthlyopportunitytodiscussbusinesspractices,thegroupshavealsoexperiencedpresentationsonavarietyoftopicsincluding:DigitalMedia,Canada’sAnti-SpamLegislation,BusinessPlanning,SuccessionPlanning,SocialResponsibility,LeadershipSkills,SmallBusinessResources,EmployeeEngagementandmore.

TheNewmarketChamberofCommercerecentlyhostedtheAssistantDeputyMinister(ADM)withtheMinistryofTrainingUniversitiesandColleges,theOntarioChamberofCommerceandseveralNewmarketChambermembersata“CanadaJobGrant”(CJG)roundtabletodiscussandshapethisnewprogram.Introducedinfederalbudget2013,theCJGisanewdemand-drivenskillstrainingprogramavailabletobusinessestotrainyouremployees,unemployedandunderemployedCanadians.Upto$15,000perpersonfortrainingcostsisavailable,includingtuitionandtrainingmaterialsandupto$10,000isavailablefromgovernmentsources.TheCJGrequiresemployerstocontributeonaverage1/3ofthetotalcostandtherewillbesomeadditionalflexibilityforsmallemployers.Anyshort-durationtrainingmustbeprovidedbyaneligiblethird-partytrainer.Watchformoredetails.
