Spiritual Reflection Today’s Gospel describes what many believe to have been the typical pattern of Jesus’ ministry: teaching in the synagogue followed by acts of healing. In his hometown of Nazareth, the people are amazed by what they hear, but they also cannot comprehend how someone they know so well might move them so powerfully. This Gospel tells us that Jesus is hampered from performing miracles in Nazareth because of the people’s lack of faith. Jesus is said to be surprised by this. He did not predict or foresee this rejection. In this detail we find a description of the very human side of Jesus. This passage unfolds a continuing theme of Mark’s Gospel: Who is Jesus? His kinfolk in Nazareth might know the carpenter, the son of Mary, but they do not know Jesus, the Son of God. Mark is foreshadowing Jesus’ rejection by his own people, the people of Israel. He is also reflecting on and trying to explain the situation of the community for which he wrote. While many of the first Christians were Jewish, Christianity took hold and flourished in the Gentile community. Mark’s community was mostly a Gentile community, who may have been experiencing persecution. By showing that Jesus himself was rejected, Mark consoles and reassures his first readers. He also prepares us to accept this possible consequence of Christian discipleship. El evangelio de hoy describe lo que muchos creen que fue el patrón típico del ministerio de Jesús: enseñar en la sinagoga seguida de actos de sanación. En su ciudad natal de Nazaret, la gente está asombrada por lo que escuchan, pero tampoco pueden comprender cómo alguien que conocen tan bien podría conmoverlos con tanta fuerza. COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic Clínica Para la Vacuna del COVID-19
In collaboration with Catholic Charities of Fort Worth, St Thomas the Apostle will be hosting a COVID-19 Vaccination clinic. This is a great opportunity to receive the COVID-19 free of cost to anyone ages 12 and over. Vaccines will be given in the big meeting room of the Religious Ed building. No appointment is necessary, this event is by walk-ins only.

Welcome Back Reception The stewardship Committee will be hosting a welcome back reception for everyone. This is to celebrate the return to your parish family and celebrate the feast of St. Thomas the Apostle. Receptions will take place after all weekend Masses on July 3rd and 4th in the parish hall with light refreshments.

Volunteer Corner Are you looking for opportunities to give back to the parish? We have a variety of parish ministries that could use some of your talents. Two ministries that need volunteers are the Parish Bulletin Board and Ushers.
Wedding Coordinator: STTA is looking for passionate volunteer to help with the wedding coordinating process for future marriages taking place at St Thomas. If you are interested in volunteering, please call the parish office for more details.
Altar Servers: The liturgical team is looking for children and adults looking to serve in Mass as Altar Servers. Altar servers play a big role in the liturgy of the Mass by assisting the priest and deacon. For this ministry, you only need to have received your first communion. For more information, please contact Deacon Mike.
VBS Volunteers: Volunteers are needed to help with the Vacation Bible School (VBS) camp on August 4-6, 2021. This is a one-time camp once a year where kids come to deepen their faith and learn more about Jesus.
Bulletin Board Decorator: We are needing a creating mind to help decorate our public bulletin boards in the church.
