Born in the Bronx, N.Y., Mrs. Ausfresser lived in Queens, N.Y., before moving to New Jersey 18 years ago. She was a patron of the arts. Mrs. Ausfresser was a lifelong antiques collector. Special items in her collection included Victorian hat pins and Chinese Foo dogs. She had been a volunteer in the pedi- atric surgery department of Booth Memorial Hospital in Queens. Surviving are a son, Reynold Aufraser, and a daughter, Pamela Berman. The Menorah Chapels at Mill- bum in Union handled the arrange- ments. Charlotte Barcas Charlotte T. Barcas, 84, of Clark died May 22 in Trinitas Regional Medical Center, Elizabeth. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., Mrs. Barcas moved to Clark 46 years ago. She was employed as a book- keeper for Fischer Scientific, Springfield, for many years before retiring. Mrs. Barcas was a commu- nicant of St. John the Apostle Church, Clark. Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Peter J.; a son, Peter P.; a daughter, Charlotte Roncaioli, and five grandchildren. The August F. Schmidt Funeral Home, Elizabeth, handled the arrangements. Edna Buehler Edna Behm Buehler, 92, of Union died May 22 in Care One in Morristown. Born in Mechanicsville, Pa., Mrs. Buehler lived in Scotch Plains for 62 years before settling to Schaefer Gardens in Union. She was the owner of Paul's Stationery Store in South Plainfield and retired in (981. Mrs. Buehler was a member of the Fanwood Presbyterian Women's Circle and the Knitting Club that provided blankets for pre- mature babies. She also was an avid bowler. Carmen Bums Carmen D. Burns, 87, of Spring- field died on May 22. Born in Richmond, Va., Mrs. Burns lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., before residing in Springfield for 51 years. She was a member of the Union Baptist Church, Orange, for more than 60 years. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Lawrence V.; three sons, Dr. Michael L., Vincent M. and Lawrence A. Joseph DeFranco Joseph DeFranco, 83, of Summit died May 21 in Care One, Liv- ingston. Born in Madison, Mr. DeFranco moved to Summit 61 years ago. He was a postal clerk for the Summit Post Office for 38 years and retired 18 years ago. Mr. DeFranco was a veteran of the Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He was a member of WEINPO of Summit, and he was an avid bowler. Surviving are a daughter, Bar- bara Pecca; two sons, Philip and Joseph Jr.; a brother, Lucian; a sis- ter, Rosaria Kaufman; five grand- children and 13 great-grandchil- dren. The Paul Ippolito Summit Memorial, Summit, handled the arrangements. George DeJohn George DeJohn, 93, of Cedar Grove, formerly of Union, died on May 24. Born in Newark, Mr. DeJohn lived in Orange for many years and in Toms River for 15 years before moving to Union in 1996. He served in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific during World War II and was decorated for his service. Mr. DeJohn worked for many years as a tractor-trailer driver prior to his retirement. William Graff Sr. William J. Graff Sr., 65, of Linden died May 23 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Graff lived in Long Island before moving to Linden 30 years ago. He was a principal in the com- pliance department for AXA Equi- table Financial Co., New York City, where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 1999. Mr. Graff was a graduate of St. John University, where he received two masters degrees in finance. He was an Army veteran and served in Vietnam. Mr. Graff was a member of the Linden American Legion Post 102 and a life member of the VFW Post 5796 in Kings Park, N.Y., and the New Jersey Vietnam Memorial Committee. Surviving are his wife. Mr. Frank was a stock handler, otherwise known as a purchasing agent, for Public Service Electric & Gas Co. in Linden, Essex and Sewaren for 36 years and retired in 2005. He was an Army veteran and served from 1965 to 1967. Mr. Frank was a member of the Linden Knights of Columbus, Loyal Order of the Moose and the American Legion Post 5, Rah way. He graduated from New York University Law School in 1952. Mr. Horowitz was a secretary of SCORE, a member of the Jewish Historical Society, governor of the Maplewood Country Club and for- mer president of the Middlesex County Bar Association. Mrs. Hutchison enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps in 1940, earning the rank of first lieutenant and was decorated with the American Cam- paign and World War II Victory medals. She was stationed at the troop hospital as assistant chief nurse at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., from June 22, 1941 until Dec. 1945, car- ing for the United States military. Mrs. Hutchison returned from the European Theater during World War II. After the war, she worked as night supervisor at Elizabeth Gen- eral Hospital, now Trinitas Region- al Medical Center, Elizabeth, as office nurse to Dr. Frederick Carra- cino and as a private duty nurse. She received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Jersey City State College in 1966 and worked as a school nurse in the Hillside school system. Mrs. Hutchison was active in the Third Presbyterian Church, Elizabeth, and the Hillside Presby- terian Church. She served as travel coordinator for the Hillside Seniors. After retiring to Toms River, Mrs. Hutchison participated in sen- ior activities, trips and events. She spent the last six years of her life at Care One in Jackson and was active in Care One's recreational activities and trips, arts and crafts, baking, canning, gardening and crocheting. Mrs. Hutchison served as resident council president from 2005 until October 2010. She would have celebrated 69 years of marriage with husband, James, on June 20. Anthony Maffie Anthony F. Maffie, 78, of Union died May 23 in Livingston. Born in Newark, Mr. Maffie was a longtime resident of Union. He graduated from Muhlenberg College. Mr. Maffie worked for Union Carbide as a plant manager before retiring after 32 years. He later worked for the Union school system as a custodian for nine years before his retirement in 1996.
