Parent Response From Kelly Sinclair at the

Year 12 Formal

Good evening Parents, Family, Friends, Teachers and most importantly our Guests of

Honour, the year 12 students of Warren Central School, Class of 2019.

My name is Kelly Sinclair. I am pleased to be here with you to celebrate these amazing

students and might I say how gorgeous you all look. The young ladies look simply

stunning and as for the boys, well who knew that you could scrub up like that. Not a pair

of footy shorts in sight.

I am sure there were days where getting out of bed was unbearable. Can I do this today?

No I don’t want to, but I have to! I must be strong and tackle it head on. By the way I am

talking about the teachers, all your efforts and hard work really shows here tonight and

we are all grateful.

I would like to thank all the staff from Warren Central School. From the Principal Duncan Lovelock, Deputy Robyn

Taylor, Year 12 Advisor Georgia Maxwell, all the teachers, to the office staff, thank you. Along with their parents and

support networks, you have moulded these youths into fine young adults, and I am so excited to see what the future

holds for them.

Ok so now I am going to take you and your imagination to a virtual game of football. It’s the year 12 Warren Warriors

versing the Evil Educators!

We will start in the locker room where the teams coach Brittney Marks is giving them all a rev up about tonight’s game.

“This is it; it is the event you have all been waiting for, lets get out there and show them the Warren Warriors will rip

the pages from the textbooks.”

Out on the field the crowds are going wild. The Stadium is full of supporters for the Warren Warriors from parents to

family, teachers and fans, their support network is amazing. Zoie Rookledge has the crowd on the edge of their seats

with her cheerleading performance as the players enter the field, lead by their captain Zoe Taylor, she is ready to go

to war with the opposing teams captain, business studies.

With both teams on the field the whistle blows and the centre for Warren Warriors, Courtney Graham kicks off. She

aims high and long and the ball lands straight into the arms of Investigating Science, Science fumbles and drops the

ball but lucky enough winger Amber Gordon is there to pick up the ball. She runs straight down the sideline where

CAFS is headed straight for her, she dodges, only to be tackled by EEC but not before she passes to the five eighth

Bart Cosgrove. Bart’s long legs carry him with great speed but has he met his match as he gets tackled by Visual

Arts? No, of course not, this is the Warren Warriors, nothing can keep them down. Forward Jamie Sinclair tackles

Hospitality head on and things are really heating up in the kitchen. This is a once in a lifetime game and the Warren

Warriors are in control.

Fast forward with 2 minutes remaining in the game and what a tough one it has been. The scores are all tied and the

Evil Educators think they have succeeded in crushing the souls of the defending team. Primary Industries has control

of the ball when out of nowhere Prop Tom Tom Fuller lays down the law and tackles the offending player. Full back

Stephen Owens swoops in collecting the ball and even a tackle from Industrial can’t hold him back. 60 seconds to go

and SLR has the ball when Prop Mitchell George intercepts the pass between SLR and PE. He throws straight to

Winger Kolby Hancock. Kolby gains control of the ball with 10 metres to go. He sidesteps Maths and slides straight

past English, over the try line. This is it, it’s amazing, the Warren Warriors have tried and succeeded. They couldn’t

have achieved this without the help of their teachers but they have won the game against education and what an

amazing journey it has been. Their whole lives have led up to this moment and they have smashed it. The crowd is

going wild and the game is over, they are the champions.

Back to reality.

I wish you all the best of luck in your exams and for your future goals. Whether you will go on and study further at Uni,

take up an apprenticeship, or decide to stay here in our hometown where your heart belongs, I wish you great

success. And remember if times ever get hard, just think back to this moment where you have your team members,

supporters and fans cheering you on from the sideline saying “YOU HAVE GOT THIS!!!”

All Class! Fantastic Formal Night

On Monday 23 September, we celebrated the formal of our Year 12 students at the Warren Services Club. With

approximately 100 people in attendance, we all enjoyed a fantastic night and celebrated the achievements of a fine

group of students. The venue was all dressed up to the nines and done in a classy and stylish way. A great meal was

served and the cake was simply spectacular! I would like to thank Miss Martin, Mrs Robertson, Ms Mayger, Mrs Mayger,

Aimee Sheppard, the WCS students for serving and Ms Maxwell – their Year Adviser who has been looking after them

for the past 2 years. It was great to see about 25 staff from the school in attendance. The slideshow was a real opener

to see how each of our eleven graduates how changed in appearance over the years – and a few parents as well!

(which included our Deputy Principal!)

Rainbow Day

Tuesday 24 September, we had our rainbow acknowledgement day. The students who demonstrated exemplary

behaviour and a solid work ethic got to play laser tag – organised by Mr Armstrong. Our motto – Respectful,

Responsible Learners provides the opportunities for students to be rewarded for doing the right thing at school.

Congratulations to the students who qualified for this fun activity with their positive behaviour at school.

NESA Inspection

Last Thursday saw 2 inspectors from the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) visit our school to ensure we are

meeting syllabus and education standards. NESA were very pleased after their inspection in to how we deliver quality

public education to students at WCS. A big thank you and congratulations to Miss Martin, Mrs Hamilton and Mr Zayied

for their efforts here.

Year 7 Adviser 2020

Congratulations to Mr Armstrong who has been successful in his application for this position in 2020. Well done Mr

Armstrong!

Term 4

I would like to thank the students and staff for all their efforts this term. It has been a huge term with all our events and

opportunities for students. I hope everyone has a safe, relaxing and enjoyable break and I look forward to seeing

everyone refreshed and recharged next term.

Beemunnel Heritage Trail - Primary students enjoyed a visit to the Beemunnel over the NAIDOC Week

celebrations. The map shows the route of the trail which links the Beemunnel Reserve Aboriginal Place with the

Window on the Wetlands via the walking/cycling trail around the Tiger Bay Wetlands. Thanks to Mr Hawkes for driving

students to the Beemunnel on the bus and to Mr and Mrs Leman for supplying the bus at no cost..

NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in our

communities.

This year’s NAIDOC theme is ‘Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let’s work together for a shared future’, and Warren Central School

provided students with lessons and activities during the week to celebrate NAIDOC week.

TERM 3 ISSUE 15 2019

On Tuesday 24 September Warren Central held Rainbow Day which rewards students for displaying the school values

of being respectful, responsible learners. 76 students from primary and 26 from secondary participated in a range of

activities, including movies.

The main activity and highlight of the day was laser tag. The game worked by having two teams of up to 10 players

equipped with a phaser (laser gun). Each phaser had a head band connected to it, which had sensors on it. When the

phaser is fired it sends out an infrared beam. When one of the sensors is “tagged” the student is recorded as being hit.

Laser tag was played in the hall, which was filled with a variety of objects from around the school, such as gym mats

for students to hide behind. The two teams then proceed to fire at each other with their phasers, after being “hit” 5

times they were out and had to return to their own bases in the wings of the hall to heal, before returning to the game.

Each game lasted 10 minutes. Students played two 10 minutes games and learned a variety of essential skills includ-

ing teamwork, tactics and how keeping your eyes open when you shoot, improves your accuracy.

Overall it was a fantastic day that all students enjoyed, as this was the first time laser tag has been organised at the

school. I want to thank everyone involved: the primary staff who organised their students into teams, the primary

prefects who helped organise the younger children and set up the arena, the year seven students who also helped set

up and pack up the event.

R U OK DAY was held on Thursday 12 of September. Secondary students were invited to wear yellow at

WCS. In the morning K-12 viewed and discussed appropriate videos regarding the R U OK message. At

recess secondary SRC students handed out yellow cupcakes donated by the SRC. We would like to give a

special thanks to Mrs Robertson for icing the cupcakes along with a few students. Fourth period secondary

students had a guest speaker Paul Hausia from Breakthru who came and talked to us about mental health

and well-being. It was a very engaging presentation. Thank you very much Paul, all the students thoroughly

enjoyed it.

At lunch we had primary come up to secondary playground for a chat, treats and a game of touch footy.

Thank you to everyone who was involved and a huge thanks to Mrs Lovelock and the SRC students for a

successful day.

With Mrs Robertson

Year 9/10 have been busy designing their cupcakes for an assessment. Last week 9/10 Food Technology class made

their cupcakes and completed the assessment. They did a fantastic job with the cupcakes, I’m not sure if many made it

home. Well done to all of these students.
