Admission is $10 per adult and $5 perchild. e MSV also offers programs and workshops in theMakerspace. Look inside this calendar for details about upcomingprograms. A few spots remain in July’s Summer Art Studio for kids, aweekly Homeschool Art Studio for 5th through 8th graders begins inSeptember, and an adult pottery workshop focusing on hand-buildingand wheel-throwing techniques begins in October. An exhibition featuring some of the world’s best contemporary animal art is on viewin the MSV through September 3, 2017. A traveling exhibition, Art and the Animalpresents a selection of more than 60 paintings, drawings, and sculptures of animalsfrom around the globe created by members of the Society of Animal Artists. e MSV display of Art and the Animal offers the public the final opportunity to seethis impressive collection of fine art. e MSV is the final venue on the exhibition’s2016–17 tour which has also included museums in Texas, New Jersey, and Kansas.e tour of Art and the Animal is directed by noted wildlife art scholar and authorDavid J. Wagner, PhD, and the exhibition’s presentation at the MSV is sponsored by92.5 WINC FM.e exhibition includes works portraying both wild and domestic animals and dozensof species are featured in the exhibition, including zebras, elephants, tigers, Atlanticpuffins, river otters, a Friesian horse, koi, an Arctic fox, brown pelicans, an armadillo,a Pacific giant octopus, kangaroo rats, and frogs. ArtistBarry Vance’s ancestors settlednear the headwaters of FrederickCounty’s Opequon Creek in 1735.His family heritage and personalconnection to the land areunderlying themes in all of hisworks. Oen sketching andpainting from memory, thepaintings on view in Under theAppalachian Sky blend culturaland natural elements from variouscommunities throughout theShenandoah Valley. Vance worksfrom his studios in Winchester,Virginia, and Brandywine, WestVirginia, to create magnificentpaintings that combine hisadmiration of the landscape with the past and present of thebackcountry. e MSV display of Under the Appalachian Sky has beenpartially funded by the Woltz–Winchester Foundation.

Animals, Animals!You can see drawings, paintings, and sculpture of all kinds of animalsin the new MSV exhibition Art and the Animal. e works in theexhibition are made by some of the world’s best animal artists. Some ofthe animals featured in the exhibition are zebras, elephants, tigers,horses, cats, dogs, frogs, and birds. You’ll even see sculptures of anoctopus and a rhinoceros. If you could draw or paint any animal,which one would you choose?

Did You Know?e MSV is home to manyanimals. Look for ducks andgeese near the stream at theMuseum. Deer, rabbits,coyotes, wild turkeys, hawks,chipmunks, groundhogs,snakes, fish, and squirrels alsomake their homes here. Ask agrown up to bring you to theMSV at 11 a.m. on July 12 forTiny Tales Storytime in theGlen Burnie House. We willbe reading stories about lotsof animals.

Fish at the MSVFish have lived in the ponds at the MSVfor a long time. Last winter a pair of baldeagles living in Winchester found the fishand ate them all! We have just stockedthe ponds with 75 new golden trout andrainbow trout. Look for them when youvisit the Museum gardens!
