A HUMBLE KING Like a tonal center in music, the note to which we keep returning in today's read-ings is humility. We wait in joyful ex-pectation for the coming of our Lord as King. But what we are told to expect and rejoice over is a meek and humble king, riding on an ass. Not horses or chariots of the great and mighty, but a humble beast carries the Ruler whose dominion stretches "from the River to the ends of the earth" (Zechariah 9:10). TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The premier poet of the English lan-guage, Geoffrey Chaucer, introduced one of his most beloved characters, the "Wife of Bath," by this telling remark: "Husbands at church door she had five." Four times widowed, she was setting off on a pilgrimage, notably without number five. The church door is a curious detail, pointing to the fourteenth-century wed-ding custom of marrying on the porch of the parish church. The goal was to give maximum publicity to the consent of the groom and bride, and so consent was moved from the bride's home to a public venue. The priest would stand in the doorway and begin by sprinkling the couple with holy water. He needed to make sure they weren't too closely relat-ed and give them some instruction. He would direct the groom to pay the bride's family a dowry, and then announce the monetary amounts to the interested pass-ersby. Only then would the guests enter the church for the wedding Mass, during which the bride and groom would hold lighted candles. The gradual move from home to church and the shift from the bride's father to the priest's authority helped to protect the freedom of brides who weren't quite as confident as the Wife of Bath. --Rev. UN REY HUMILDE Como el centro tonal en música, la nota que sigue retornando en las lecturas de hoy es la humildad. Esperamos con gozosa expectativa la venida de nuestro Señor como Rey. Pero se nos dice que esperemos y nos regocijemos en este manso y humilde rey, montado en un burrito. No en el caballo o el carruaje de los grandes y poderosos, sino en una humilde bestia que carga al Rey cuyo dominio se extiende "desde el gran río hasta los últimos rincones de la tier-ra" (Zacarías 9:10). TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE En el año 2001, Carlos Manuel Rodríguez Santiago se convirtió en el primer laico caribeño beatificado por la Iglesia. Su vida fue ejemplar en la cari-dad y en el amor a la liturgia, pues promovió la participación de los fieles de una manera activa, mucho antes de que el Concilio Vaticano II así lo pidi-era. En 1963 una colitis rectal muy sev-era lo llevó a los brazos de Cristo resu-citado, a la edad de 44 años. Carlitos, como muchos lo llaman, traba-jó en la Universidad de Puerto Rico y fundó un grupo apostólico laical en el Centro Católico de dicha universidad. Allí pudo obrar por el desarrollo del humanismo cristiano, la participación activa de los laicos en la liturgia de la Iglesia y por la renovación de la Vigilia Pascual. Solía decir que los cristianos "vivimos para esa noche" como cumbre y centro de nuestra fe. Carlitos es modelo para los laicos com-prometidos con su fe. Él insistía no sólo en una participación activa en la pastoral de la Iglesia, sino también en la liturgia de la Iglesia en una época donde la Misa todavía se consideraba obra exclusiva de los sacerdotes. --Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright (c) J. KINH CẦU CHO TỰ DO TÔN GIÁO
Lạy Thiên Chúa là Đấng Tạo Hoá, từ bàn tay quan phòng của Chúa, chúng con nhận được quyền sống, quyền tự do, và quyền theo đuổi hạnh phúc. Chúa đã quy tụ chúng con thành dân riêng của Chúa và ban cho chúng con quyền lợi và bổn phận để thờ phượng Chúa, là Thiên Chúa đích thật, và Con Chúa, là Đức Giêsu Kitô. Qua quyền năng và hoạt động của Chúa Thánh Thần, Chúa mời gọi chúng con hãy sống đức tin giữa lòng thế giới, hãy đem ánh sáng và chân lý cứu độ Phúc Âm đến mọi ngõ ngách của xã hội . Xin Chúa chúc lành cho chúng con trong cuộc chiến bảo vệ tự do tôn giáo. Xin ban cho chúng con sức mạnh trí tuệ và tâm hồn để sẵn sàng bảo vệ tự do khi nó bị đe dọa; Xin ban cho chúng con ơn can đảm dám lên tiếng nhân danh các quyền của Hội Thánh và tự do lương tâm của mọi người có đức tin. Ôi lạy Cha trên trời, xin ban cho tất cả con cái Cha đang quy tụ trong Hội Thánh có tiếng nói rõ ràng và hợp nhất trong giờ phút quyết định của lịch sử đất nước chúng con, có như thế, với mọi thử thách được vượt qua và mọi nguy hiểm được lướt thắng - vì con cháu chúng con và vì mọi người đến sau chúng con - mảnh đất vĩ đại này sẽ luôn luôn là "một Quốc gia, không phân chia, dưới ơn che chở của Thiên Chúa, với tự do và công bằng cho mọi người." Chúng con cầu xin nhờ Đức Kitô, Chúa chúng con. Amen.
Giáo hội sẽ ra sao trong thời trí tuệ nhân tạo? Nhân dịp kỷ niệm 500 năm Cải cách Tin lành, một mục sư người Đức đã lắp đặt một ro-bot-mục sư tại nhà thờ Wit-tenberg, vùng Saxony-Anhalt, nhằm khơi dậy tranh luận về tương lai của Giáo hội trong thời đại trí tuệ nhân tạo.
BlessU-2 trông giống như một máy ATM. Nhưng điều mà bộ máy này phân phối là lời chúc lành – tên gọi của robot BlessU-2 theo tiếng Anh có nghĩa là “Tôi cũng chúc lành cho bạn.”

BlessU-2 không được dùng để thay thế cho mục sư bằng xương bằng thịt và Giáo hội Đức không phải đã được “robot hoá.” Đây chỉ là một thử nghiệm được các Giáo hội Tin lành ở Đức tiến hành nhân dịp kỷ niệm 500 năm Cải cách Tin lành. Sáng chế này đã được công bố hồi tháng Năm trong khuôn khổ của một cuộc triển lãm tại thành phố Wittenberg ở Tây Nam Berlin. (…)
