POWER STRUGGLE Power struggles occur on every level of society, from the world stage to relation-ships at work, to our own homes. We struggle for position in the hierarchy of power: Who has power over whom? How do they wield it? What is the source of that power? What is the healthy response? In this Sunday's Gospel reading the Pharisees engage Jesus in a power strug-gle over whether Jews should show trib-ute to Caesar by paying taxes. Jesus' response puts this and every struggle for power into perspective. In harmony with the words of Isaiah and Paul, Jesus teaches us that God is the ultimate source of all power--the power of earthly rulers, the Pharisees, Jesus, the Church, and the power within ourselves. The celebration of the Centennial of Our Lady of Fatima last Sunday at 5:00pm was prayerful and beautiful. It was possible thanks to the participation of many, especially the liturgical ministers and choirs from different Masses, the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth’s flower dance group, families who brought flowers, those who recited the Hail Mary in 12 different languages, the Knights of Columbus Color Corps, those who contributed to the reception, etc.

Both our Knights of Columbus Council 3436 and the Vietnamese Community at St. Martin are under the patronage of Our Lady of Fatima. Thank you all for being part of the celebration. Let us continue to pray for peace in response to Our Lady’s call at Fatima 100 years ago. The Fatima prayer for peace card was brought to you by the Knights of Columbus and the Vietnamese Community.

LUCHA POR EL PODER Las luchas por el poder ocurren en todos los ámbitos de la sociedad, desde el escenario mundial hasta en las relaciones en el trabajo, y hasta en nuestros ho-gares. Luchamos por un puesto en la jerarquía de poder. ¿Quién tiene poder sobre quién? ¿Cómo lo usamos? ¿Cuál es la fuente de ese poder? ¿Cuál es la respuesta sana ante el mismo? En la lectura del Evangelio de hoy los fariseos mezclan a Jesús en la lucha por el poder sobre si los judíos deben rendir tributo a César pagando los impuestos. La respuesta de Jesús da a esta lucha y a toda lucha por el poder otra perspectiva. En consonancia con las palabras de Isaías y de Pablo, Jesús nos enseña que Dios es la fuente final de todo poder -el poder de los que gobiernan en la tierra, los fariseos, Jesús, la Iglesia y el poder dentro de nosotros. La celebración del Centenario de Nuestra Señora de Fátima el domingo pasado a las 5:00 p.m. fue orante y hermosa. Fue posible gracias a la participación de muchos, especialmente a los ministros y coros litúrgicos de diferentes Misas, al grupo de danza floral de la Juventud Eucarística vietnamita, a las familias que trajeron flores, a los que recitaron el Ave María en 12 idiomas diferentes, el Cuerpo de Color de Caballeros de Colón , los que contribuyeron a la recepción, etc. Tanto el Consejo de Caballeros de Colón 3436 como la Comunidad Vietnamita en San Martín están bajo el patrocinio de Nuestra Señora de Fátima. Gracias a todos por ser

parte de la celebración. Continuemos orando por la paz en respuesta al llamado de Nuestra Señora en Fátima hace 100 años. Los Caballeros de Colón y la Comunidad vietnamita trajeron la carta de oración por la paz de Fátima.

Triển lãm Kitô giáo ở Đông phương

Nhân kỷ niệm 30 năm thành lập, Viện thế giới Ả Rập ở Paris hợp tác với Hiệp hội Kitô giáo L’Œuvre d'Orient, tổ chức cuộc triển lãm “Kitô hữu ở Đông phương: 2,000 năm lịch sử” từ cuối tháng Chín năm nay đến ngày 14 tháng Giêng 2018. Đây là triển lãm tổng quát đầu tiên về đề tài này ở châu Âu. Triển lãm diễn ra tại Viện thế giới Ả Rập, đã được tổng thống Liban và tổng thống Pháp cùng khai trương.

Từ Giêrusalem, Kitô giáo đã lan rộng khắp vùng Cận Đông. Trong suốt 2,000 năm nay, Kitô hữu đóng vai trò quan trọng đối với sự phát triển chính trị, văn hoá, xã hội và tôn giáo ở khu vực này. Các đề tài được trình bày trong triển lãm: việc thiết lập Kitô giáo là quốc giáo, những đóng góp của các Kitô hữu cho Nahda (cuộc Phục hưng Ả Rập), v.v.

Triển lãm cũng dành một phần giới thiệu các hoạt động và sức sống của các cộng đoàn Kitô giáo trong thế giới Ả Rập, vẫn luôn đứng vững trước nhiều cuộc xung đột đang diễn ra như xung đột giữa Israel và Palestine, xung đột ở Syria v.v.

Các Giáo hội ở vùng Cận Đông đã tham gia trực tiếp vào việc thực hiện triển lãm này, cung cấp các di vật khảo cổ, tranh icon, vật phẩm phụng vụ, đồ dùng thường nhật, tài liệu lưu trữ, bản thảo, hình ảnh, phim và tài liệu ghi âm. Đáng chú ý là các bản Phúc âm Rabula, một bản thảo nổi tiếng bằng tiếng Syriac có hình minh hoạ từ thế kỷ VI, và các bức tranh đầu tiên của Kitô giáo ở Dura-Europos thuộc Syria đã được thế giới biết đến, có niên đại từ thế kỷ III. Đây là một cuộc hành trình cho thấy rõ tính đa dạng của Kitô giáo với các Giáo hội Copt, Hy Lạp, Assyria-Chaldea, Syria, Arme-nia, Maronite, La-tinh và Tin Lành.

Cha Jean-Jacques Pérennès, dòng Đa Minh, giám đốc Trường Kinh thánh và Khảo cổ Jerusalem, cho biết: cuộc triển lãm này là niềm vui cho “các Kitô hữu Ả Rập – những người không muốn bị coi là thiểu số, là thừa thãi, nhưng muốn được là công dân của nước mình một cách trọn vẹn.”

Lễ kỷ niệm 100 năm Đức Mẹ hiện ra tại Fatima đã diễn ra tốt đẹp vào lúc 5 giờ chiều Chúa nhật tuần trước, với sự tham gia của cộng đoàn VN cũng như các sắc dân khác tại xứ St. Martin. Cha sở Roberto Gomez và cha Ed Samy cũng đến đồng tế. Phần dâng hoa, đọc kinh đa ngôn ngữ, các bài thánh ca của các sắc dân, và tiệc mừng đã gây ấn tượng tốt đẹp nơi nhiều người. Đó là nhờ sự đóng góp của nhiều cá nhân và đoàn thể: các tác viên phụng vụ và các ca đoàn từ nhiều lễ, trong đó là ca đoàn Fatima; các em dâng hoa của đoàn Thiếu nhi Thánh thể Martino; các gia đình với những bông hoa dâng Đức Mẹ; những người đọc kinh Kính mừng bằng 12 ngôn ngữ; hiệp hội Knights of Columbus 3436; các Bà mẹ Công giáo, đoàn Liên minh Thánh tâm và một số sắc dân khác lo đồ ăn và tiếp tân; ban trang hoàng kiệu, ban chụp hình và video projection, v.v. với sự phối hợp chu đáo của Ban thường vụ Cộng đoàn VN.
