All Poll Workers are required to attend one Training Class every two years.

Training is Mandatory for COVID-19 Primary Election Poll Workers!

When attending Training Class you must sign in to receive credit. Please send a note in the question section of the www.ucnj.org/pollworker website with your name and address so we know you attended. You may also email [email protected].

POLL WORKER DUTIES

Your duties as a Poll Worker include:

Opening & Successfully using the Voting Machine

Opening the polls on time

Determining who may vote

Keeping order

Closing the polls

Completing official documents & returning supplies

Be a productive team member!

THINGS TO REMEMBER

Report to polling place by 5:15am

Polls open promptly at 6:00am. Use a cell phone for most accuratetime

If you are late or the polls open late, your pay will be reduced

If you are sick or cannot report to your polling place, notify theElection Board right away by calling 908-527-4120

As an extension of the Board of Elections, you shall presentyourself in a professional manner, limit cell phone use toemergencies and break times and complete and sign all forms.

Break Times: 1 hour meal break staggered among the workers tobe taken before 5pm. No more than one worker on break at atime. Small breaks permitted throughout the day. Sign in and outat lunch time. A majority of the board is required to be present atall times.

No food or drinks shall be near voting machines or materials.

VOTE! Don’t forget to vote!

You are encouraged to vote at every election.

If you are assigned to a district where you do not

vote, you should use a Mail in Ballot. Ballots are

available at the County Clerk’s Offices in both

Elizabeth and Westfield up until 3pm the day

before the election.

If your polling place is nearby, you may vote on

your one hour meal break.

US DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE

ADA COMPLIANCE The US Department of Justice will be conducting site surveys on Election Day. They

have been provided letters from our office and badges. They will be making sure our

polling places are ADA compliant.

All poll workers and master poll worker must sign the Compliance Checklist.

US DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE

BILINGUAL AWARENESSThe US DOJ will be monitoring our polling places for bilingual awareness. They have been

provided letters and badges.

The poll workers may be asked questions about how to assist a Spanish-speaking voter.

When you visit your polling places, please make the poll workers aware that the DOJ will be

visiting for this purpose.

WITH OUR POLL WORKERS

• Everbridge is the system the County uses for First Alert.

We worked with Public Information to develop a group

specifically for Poll Workers.

• We can communicate using Text Messages, Email

Messages and Phone Messages.

• We will only use this for official communication from the

office and will not share contact information with an

outside office or company.

• Messages include mailing of assignments, posting of

training dates and reminder of paycheck pick up dates.

Post near the entrance of the polling place.

Write in the Town, Ward, if applicable, andDistrict in the top line.

Number of votes must be completed every 2hours: Machine Votes + Provisional Votes= Cumulative Total.

The machine vote or public count is foundon the bottom left hand side of the screen.

Do not handle the Provisional Ballotsthroughout the day. As a Provisional Ballotis voted and returned, keep a hash markcount and then transfer to the poster.

Instructions for Assisting a Disabled Voter

ONLY disabled voters may vote on the machine

Disabled voter to complete the “Certificate for Disabled Voters” certifying they

cannot vote on a provisional ballot.

Poll Worker calls the BOE at 908-389-5200 to see if a VBM was issued and

returned

IF NOT: Voter may vote on the machine

IF VBM Was Returned: Voter may NOT vote

Poll Worker Looks up Voter Name in Voter List to get the W/D and completes

the VA Slip

Machine attendant accepts the VA Slip, activates the machine, W/D and Party

Ballot for the disabled voter

If the poll worker needs assistance setting up the assistive hearing device for the

voter, call 908-389-5200.

THE POLL WORKER ACTIVATES THE MACHINE:

THE BALLOT CARD

The poll worker accepts the voting

authority slip from the voter. Hold

onto the slip until the voter has

completely voted. Then deposit the

slip into the clear Voting Authority Slip

Bag.

The poll worker inserts the Ballot Card

as indicated on the screen, with the

notch to the upper right.

In a primary election, the poll worker

will also activate the voter’s party.

This activates the machine for voting.

The poll worker closes the curtain and

steps away.

to the County Clerk.

Place 1 Result Tape in the White Envelope to the Municipal

Clerk.

The Result Tapes will be VERY, VERY LONG!!! Be patient
