NEWS & EVENTS

I was born and raised in Wichita, and attended St. Francis and Bishop Carroll. After high school I went to Conception Seminary College and then to Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. After I was ordained a priest in 2018, I was assigned to be the chaplain at Trinity Catholic High School in Hutchinson and the parochial vicar at Our Lady of Guadalupe in South Hutchinson where I was blessed to serve the last three years. My first three years of priesthood have been such a blessing and I cannot wait to see what the Lord has in store as I serve the people of the Cathedral! Since the day I learned of my new assignment I have been praying for all of you. I am excited to get to know all of you and to help you follow the path of Jesus more closely as I strive to do the same!

Nací y crecí en Wichita y asistí a St. Francis y ala escuela Bishop Carroll. Después de la secundaria, fui al Conception Seminary College y luego al Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. Spend some time today with these lines from Ezekiel: “Hard of face and obstinate of heart are they to whom I am sending you. But you shall say to them: Thus says the LORD GOD! And whether they heed or resist — for they are a rebellious house — they shall know that a prophet has been among them.” Try placing yourself in this passage as the prophet who has been sent to con-vert hardened hearts. As missionary disciples, we should resemble this prophet. God has chosen and sent us; He intends to use us as instruments in His divine will and He warns that it won’t be an easy task. Like Jesus in today’s gospel, we won’t always be well-received, but we are called to persevere. It is easy to discuss our faith with like-minded people, but we are called to share it with those who are more resistant. And remember – you are cooperating with God’s plan, but you are not the Author of the plan! Plant the seed, and trust that wherever you go, regardless of how you were treated, “they shall know that a prophet has been among them.” Pray with this. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with the confidence to engage in the difficult work!

Siembra la semilla, y confía en que donde-quiera que vayas, independientemente de cómo te hayan tratado, “sabrán que hay un profeta en medio de ellos.” Reza con esto. ¡Pídele al Espíritu Santo que te llene de confianza para realizar este difícil trabajo!

LIFTING OF CURRENT RESTRICTIONS AS OF JULY 1ST Levantamiento de las restricciones vigentes a partir del 1 de julio

Bishop Kemme, after consultation with the Presbyter-al Council and Diocesan Pastoral Council has decided to lift the current guidelines and restrictions for the Diocese of Wichita, concerning the pandemic, with the sole exception of the distribution of Holy Com-munion under both forms, effective July 1, 2021. Bish-op Kemme has left to the discretion of individual pas-tors to determine reinstating the offering of the sign of peace, which is optional in the liturgy. For the time being, Cathedral will not reintroduce the sign of peace, and communion of the Precious Blood is still to be omitted. While these restrictions will no longer be in force across the diocese, we understand that some of you will be challenged by this decision. Let us con-tinue to pray for the complete end of this pandemic here and around the world. El Obispo Kemme, después de consultar con el Conse-jo Presbiteral y el Consejo Pastoral Diocesano, ha deci-dido levantar las pautas y restricciones actuales para la Diócesis de Wichita con respecto a la pandemia, con la única excepción de la distribución de la Sagra-da Comunión en ambas formas, a partir del 1 de julio de 2021. Baptism Parents: Must be parishioners of the Cathedral and be registered at least 1 month before baptism. They must present a copy of the child's birth certificate so that all names are spelled correctly on the baptismal certificate. Godparents: They must be married by the Catholic Church and they must present their marriage certificate (a photo is acceptable). They have to be confirmed and they must present their certificate of confirmation (a photo is acceptable). If they are not parishioners of the Cathedral, they must present a letter of permission from their parish priest where they attend Mass. Single sponsors: They must be over 16 years old. They must present a copy of their confirmation certificate. Parents who are not parishioners: If you want your child to be baptized in the Cathedral, parents must present a letter of permission from their parish priest where they are registered, and all the documents mentioned above. (For example, when the godparents are parishioners and the parents come to the Cathedral from another parish to baptize.) All must present a certificate or letter verifying that they took the baptism class. Baptism Classes in English: 1st Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Marian Room; located on second floor of the parish office. Registration is required. Baptisms: Monthly on 2nd Saturdays at 6:15 p.m. and monthly on 2nd Sundays at 11:15 a.m. Please call the parish receptionist to register for Baptism class and/or arrange the baptism date at 263-6574.
