11th Annual Operation Injured Soldiers Lyon Ride The 11th Annual Operation Injured Soldiers Lyon Ride and Picnic in the Park will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at James F. Atchison Memorial Park (58000 Grand River Avenue, New Hudson). The registration fee to participate in the motorcycle ride is $20 per rider or passenger. The registration fee includes entrance, the ride, lunch, and an event t-shirt (while supplies last). http://www.injuredsoldiers.org

Watering Restrictions

Due to summer water system demands, Lyon Township prohibits irrigation with automatic sprinklers during 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and again from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., which are the peak usage times.

The Township appreciates the residents’ help with this, which will lessen the amount of iron in the drinking water.

New Ichiban Sushi and Chinese Bistro

On June 22, 2017, The Lyon Township Downtown Development Authority (DDA), in cooperation with the Kensington Valley Chamber of Commerce, welcomed a new restaurant to Lyon Township in the New Hudson commercial district. The Ichiban Sushi and Chinese Bistro is located at 30763 Milford Road in the Lyon Oaks Plaza west of Milford Road and north of Lyon Center Drive West. The bistro is family owned and operated with a New York-trained sushi chef that serves dishes like a work of art. The menu offers a wide variety of Sushi, Japanese and Chinese cuisine in a modern styled dining space, or for carry-out or delivery. The website (which includes their menu) can be found at http://www.ichibansushichinese.com. “We are pleased that Lin and Rachel decided to invest in our community”, said Tina Archer, Lyon Township Downtown and Economic Development Coordinator. “People frequently state they would like to see more restaurants with a variety of food offerings as well as a nice place for a “date night” and Ichiban Sushi and Chinese Bistro offers that nice experience”. Owners Rachel and Lin received a “Welcome to Lyon Township” certificate as well as a historical framed photo of the old New Hudson Depot to put on display at their new restaurant. The photo embraces the Township’s motto of “Honoring Yesterday.Building Tomorrow.”

Big Adirondack Chair The Lyon Township Downtown Development Authority (DDA) commissioned the construction of a 7 ½ foot tall Adirondack-styled chair to be placed in James F. Atchison Memorial Park and for use at special events. The chair was constructed by local resident Craig Johnson, who has a talent with woodworking. The chair is designed to promote the township and serve as a “selfie” station. The chair was a big hit at the Kite Festival where it was placed on display. The chair is currently located in front of the Township Hall, but it will be relocated to a more permanent location by Pavilion #1 and the kid’s playscape area.

Road Commission Maintenance The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) maintenance crews were out in June to remove brush from the ditches along the roadside. Here they are seen working on the north side of Grand River Avenue, west of Lyon Center Drive.
