DESCRIPTION
Truth on the Fly with Mike Fleischmann, July's article, "Changing Up the Rhythm." How we all need a change of pace. “Mayberry” by Rascal Flatts, sings about the tragedy of a world spinning so quickly that it gives us no time to sit, connect, rest, and regain perspective like we used to do. “Sometimes it feels like this world is spinning faster than it did in the old days …Sunday was a day of rest, now it’s one more day for progress. And we can’t slow down ‘cause more is best. It’s all an endless process.” Read Mike's article now.

Truth on the FlyChanging Up the Rhythm Last month I wrote about Changing up the Scenery – and in what can only be described as an utter lack of creativity, I have entitled this month’s article Changing up the Rhythm! I’ve just <inished reading through the book of Leviticus in my personal quiet time (Yes. You read that right…Leviticus!). One of the things that struck me in my reading was the importance God placed upon changing up the rhythm of our lives. In the Law that God gave, one day in seven was to be a break for rest – not just for the people, but for their families, workers, and even animals. One year in seven was to be a break for the land from planting and harvest. Every seventh-‐seven, or <iftieth year, was to be a break from debts and obligations. Throughout the course of the calendar there were times set aside to feast and to fast, to live in tents and to travel to the city. One of the important things God was teaching through this pattern was that we all need a change of pace. There is something incredibly important about varying the rhythm of life. The cycle of our calendar today is different from the ancient Hebrews, but the underlying principle is the same. Never has the need been great to pause from a pace of life that goes way too fast.
I like the song “Mayberry” by Rascal Flatts. They sing about the tragedy of a world spinning so quickly that it gives us no time to sit, connect, rest, and regain perspective like we used to do.“Sometimes it feels like this world is spinning faster than it did in the old days …Sunday was a day of rest, now it’s one more day for progress. And we can’t slow down ‘cause more is best. It’s all an endless process.” I think they’re absolutely right. I think that these days the world is spinning too fast. Every now and then we need to change up the rhythm – breathe, rest, recharge, and renew. I say all of that, because in a strategic way that’s what we are trying to do as a church in these weeks of summer ahead. It wouldn’t be accurate to say it’s going to be inactive around here! There will be lots of life and excitement, but we are purposely changing up the rhythm. We’re trying to focus on the life of our church family, to bind ourselves together, and to recharge for the days to come.
An absolute highlight of the year for our children and parents will happen with Hometown Nazareth – our family centered VBS starting on July 10th. Following that we are sending a record group of women to Tadmor Women’s Camp on July 15th. The following weekend our 55+ Ministry will be pulling out all the stops on July 23rd, for our Annual Hot Rod Roundup bene<iting Backpack Buddies – and a CD Release Concert by our own Scott Brockett on July 22nd bene<iting the same. Right around the corner from that on August 14th will be our annual Service in the Park built around an unforgettable baptism-‐worship service, barbeque lunch, games and activities for all ages. I’m even planning to change up the rhythm in my own teaching. In the coming weeks I plan to teach through three prophets from the Hebrew Bible that rarely get much airtime in the church. I think you are going to be surprised and encouraged by these incredible messages that are as up-‐to-‐date as the morning headlines. So like I said, the days ahead are going to be anything but inactive, but the pace is going to change. And this is on purpose. As we adjust the rhythm of our worship, learning, and life together, I pray that it will help us build relationships that are out of our norm, learn beyond the expected, and rest and laugh in ways that we rarely do. This is proving to be an unforgettable summer in the life of GracePointe Church. Embrace and enjoy the change of the rhythm. The fast pace of the usual will be back soon enough.

Ministry
Our final Last Thursday Party before the summer was very interesting. Jim Morud spoke on how to leave a blessing to children and grandchildren (as well as other loved ones), through writing life stories down. It is hoped that he can return to give further help.
Get ready for a great time at the Molalla Buckeroo! We will be leaving from the church at 4 pm on July 2nd .Tickets are $13. We will stop at a restaurant on the way home.
Jack Youmans is happy to testify of the Lord’s work. He was told and shown that he had a cancerous tumor that would require surgery. Many people prayed and on the day his surgery was to be planned, the MRI showed no tumor, but a healthy kidney. Praise God!
Goldie Wooden turned 100 in June. What a woman! She Is always ready to greet everyone with a smile and hug. We all give Goldie our love and wish her good health in the coming year.
Many servants make up the body of our church. Jan Lundgren is one of them. Jan has attended GracePointe for 40 years. Currently, she helps with Backpack Buddies, is on the Women’s Connection team, (women’s ministry), and attends the Monday evening Bible Study. She worked with Awana’s for 16 years and also was in choir.

If you are interested in the history of our Bible I’d like to suggest the following titles:
✤ A Visual History of the English Bible by Dr. Donald Brake, Professor Emeritus of Multnomah University. One of the passions of Dr. Brake’s life has been to collect and read Bibles through the ages. This beautifully illustrated book is a land mark work on the history of our Bible.
✤ William Tyndale: Bible translator and Martyr. Tyndale printed the Bible in the language of the people, and consequently was martyred for his commitment. An excellent biography of a Christian forefather.
