UPDATED EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
AND CONFESSION SCHEDULE
Eucharistic Adoration will held on Mondays at
6:00 p.m. and Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 12:00
noon.
Confessions will be heard on Monday evenings at
6:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 4:00-5:00 p.m. and Sat-
urdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Priests will be located in
the Reconciliation Room.
Dear St. Amelia Parish Family,
Teaching – Learning – Understanding are all a part of each of our lives. Some of us are faster learn-
ers than others; some of us are better teachers than others; some of us are quicker students than oth-
ers. Knowledge and the experience of learning are valuable experiences for all of us. Each day of our
lives is a day of discovery and learning about ourselves; about our world and our God. It does not mat-
ter if we are quick or slow learners. What is important is that each of us needs to be open to this expe-
rience and the many teachers we will encounter in our lifetime.
The scriptures speak about this – the Risen Lord Jesus Christ is our teacher and has much to offer
us. In the gospel, Jesus’ lesson is about the reign of God. His students are the crowd of all those
around him, made up of all ages and varied people of race and creed. Jesus teaches them with three
examples that they could understand – seeds of grain, seeds of mustard seed and yeast. All are very
small objects. Jesus uses them to represent the very small beginnings of God’s kingdom. All three par-
ables end with full grown results: ripened grain, a mature mustard seed and the risen mass of dough.
What this says is that from small beginnings the kingdom of God will grow into large groups of believ-
ers.
Jesus is teaching all of us as we listen to his Word today. We can listen to the gospel – get the
point and hurry on to something else or we can be like the disciples – struggle, ask questions, be curi-
ous so as to learn more fully what Jesus is asking of us. The choice is up to each of us in the manner
in which we respond to our teacher - Jesus the Christ.
My invitation to all of us is simple: (1) Learn and discover the message Christ has for each of us in
our unique lives; (2) Grow in the light and love of Christ; (3) Be gardeners for each other: pulling the
weeds so each of us can grow in the beauty and love of Christ and (4) Remember, we are all made in
the image and likeness of God, and must reflect his goodness and love and grow more and more
beautiful each day.
In Christ’s Love and Peace,
MONDAY EVENING NOVENA BEGINS
We will resume Novena this Monday, July 20th
beginning at 6:00 p.m. Deacon Ken Monaco will
preside each Monday evening. This prayer will con-
sist of Eucharistic Adoration (an hour), Evening
Prayer and Benediction, as well as Confessions at
6:30 p.m.

GROWING TOWARDS GOD
What message do Jesus’ three gospel parables
send us today? What is common among wheat grow-
ing amidst weeds, a tiny mustard seed, and yeast?
Simply put, it might be growth - our personal spiritual
growth.
None of us is born a fully developed Christian. We
need to cooperate with God’s love and grace to be-
come the disciple Jesus wishes us to be. Look at the
first parable. Finding weeds in his field, the owner
cautions his servants not to try to uproot them for
fear of disturbing the good wheat. He tells them to
wait for the harvest where it will be easy to sort the
good from the bad. Jesus is cautioning here that the
temptations of our world will always be with us. We
need to overcome them by growing towards Him.
The mustard seed is the smallest of seeds. Yet it
produces a large bush. Our beginning point or even
our midpoint on our journey to Jesus, will always
seem small to us. We need to keep focused on our
finishing point, the Kingdom of God, and keep grow-
ing spiritually toward that goal.
The yeast that goes into baking is one of the small-
est ingredients, but look what it produces! God’s love
for us is the yeast of our lives. It should be the moti-
vating force for all that we do. We need to let God’s
love help us grow towards Him.
What can I learn from today’s parables to help in
my own growth to God? What areas of my life lend
themselves to walking towards God? Just something
to think about.
IS GOD CALLING YOU?
God is patient and merciful as we work to sift
through the good and evil in our lives. How can you
help people determine what is fit and unfit for God’s
kingdom?
If God is calling you to a Church vocation, please
call Father Andrew Lauricella at 847-5535.
“Give us the grace.. When the sacredness of life
before birth is attacked, to stand up and
proclaim that no one ever has the authority to
destroy unborn life.”
St John Paul II
God has carefully, tenderly created every person
in His own image and likeness, to be in a loving rela-
tionship with Himself. From each tiny child knit with-
in a mother’s womb, to every person approaching
death, all are loved perfectly and completely by God.
“It is therefore a service of love,” Pope Saint John Paul
II explains, “which we are all committed to ensure to
our neighbor, that his or her life may be always de-
fended and promoted, especially when it is weak or
threatened.”
(Evangelium vitae 77)
In a world in which the most vulnerable are so of-
ten overlooked and disregarded, Christ calls us to
embrace and uphold the unconditional dignity of eve-
ry human life. In answering this call, we help to build
“a new culture of life, the fruit of the culture of truth
and of love” (EV 77). May the Holy Spirit continually
renew us as we strive to faithfully defend God’s gift
of life.

St. Amelia Church is OPEN!!
It is with great joy that we let you know that our parish is open for daily and weekend Masses! It is truly a
blessing to be able to gather again around the Altar!
While Bishop Scharfenberger has stated that churches can now be open, the dispensation continues for
those who are not yet ready or able to attend in person, therefore, our livestream feed of all of our Masses will
continue.
We are welcoming parishioners back in accord with safe distancing protocols and New York State guidelines,
therefore, our committee has prepared the church by roping off every other pew for distancing measures; plac-
ing arrow markings on the carpet for social distancing and communion procedures; and installing hand sanitiz-
ers around the church. Staff and volunteers will be cleaning the church pews and wiping down the doorways and
restrooms between Masses.
It is fortunate that the size of our church should allow us to accommodate parishioners safely. The balcony
will be open for seating and the school gymnasium will be available for additional seating if needed.
How to prepare ahead of time:
Be sure you have a mask; and if possible a small size hand sanitizer for personal use.
(Diocesan guidelines indicate that any child over the age of two wear a mask.)
If you are sick or have any symptoms of the Coronavirus, please stay home. Thank you!
As you arrive for Mass:
1. Please wear your mask (as mandated by the governor’s executive order).
2. Practice social distancing as you enter or use the restrooms.
3. When you enter the church, our ushers will welcome you, guide you where to sit; and will assist you with our
new communion procedures.
During Mass:
1. There will be limited singing due to wearing masks.
2. During the Our Father, please do not hold hands with anyone outside of your household.
3. During the Sign of Peace, simply do a slight bow or nod to acknowledge/extend peace to others around you.
4. When it is time to receive Holy Communion, ushers will assist you to the communion line while maintain-
ing 6 feet of distancing. You are asked to keep your mask on, extend your ungloved hands, one on top of
the other to receive the host which will be “dropped” carefully without touch into your waiting hand. You will
then take a few steps to your right or left, lower your mask, place the host into your mouth and then return
the mask back over your nose and mouth, and go back to your pew.
While it will be wonderful to finally be back with our parish community, we ask that parishioners not congre-
gate in the narthex or indoors of the church out of concern for everyone’s personal safety.
In order to follow the CDC and Diocesan guidelines, churches have to implement the following temporary
changes: for the time being we are not able to offer holy water in the fonts; have full choirs; full processions, gift
bearers, greeters or altar servers. The crying room needs to be closed and the missalettes had to be removed
from the pews for sanitary reasons.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the table of the Lord, and ask for your patience and consideration
as we do our best to re-open as safely as possible. Please understand that each of these measures are in place as
per CDC and Diocesan Guidelines and are meant to protect each of you and allow us to gather safely as we
praise God together once again!
We have missed you and are so glad to see you again!

Elaine Volker, Director of Religious Education
This summer can be remembered as the summer
of the pandemic, masks, sickness, quarantine, and
many other negative things. It could also be an oppor-
tunity for teens to step up and make a difference!
Do you know someone who is in need? Is there a
way that you can make their life better? We have much
uncertainty in the future and depending on how
schools reopen, there may not be requirements for
service hours. This does not mean we stop caring for
those in need! Look at this summer as an opportunity
to do something that will help God’s people. If you
need ideas, please e-mail me at [email protected].
Together we can truly make life better for others.
