    East Otter Tail Open Dairy Show, July 22 A dairy show, open to all interested persons will be held on July 22 at the East Otter Tail County Fairgrounds, Perham, Minn. The is a one day, all breeds - including crossbreds - show for grade and registered cattle. Participants are welcome from Minnesota and surrounding states. Out of state par-ticipants must follow the MN Board of Animal Health requirements and obtain necessary paperwork. The show includes a little britches class for children Pre-K thru 2nd grade who would like to exhibit a calf born after March 1, 2012. Entry Fee per head is $5. No entry fee for the little britches class. This is a Jackpot type show with an Overall Breed Champion being selected and re-ceiving 40 percent of the pot.     U of M Dairy Field Days, July 23 - Sept. 20 The University of Minnesota Extension dairy team is offering 16 dairy eld days this summer. Each eld day will feature a farm that has made changes in their management or facilities that are proving to be successful and may be of interest to other dairy farmers. They kept cows on-site and rebuilt barn on same site. Old freestall barn remodeled to house close up cows in 50 sand stalls. Rubber belting in feed lanes. Sand setting lanes to reclaim over 90 percent of the sand for bedding. July 25: Lakeview Dairy (Otter Tail County); 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.; Andrew and Chelsa Golberg, 57448 Cty Rd 50, Deer Creek, Minn. Features: Cows were sold when Andrew was young but he wanted to dairy. While attending college at the U of M, Andrew and his father built a swing parlor in the old tie stall barn and Andrew bought a herd of cows. After graduating in 2006, Andrew returned home and took over the dairy. He built a compost barn that was expanded. In 2008, the compost barn was converted to sand freestalls. They now have about 125 cows. Recently installed Select Detect activity monitors and built a new feed center with used silos and commodity shed. Lunch will be provided. July 31: Wagner Dairy Farm (Scott County); 12 -2 p.m.; Randy and LouAnn Wagner, 26681 Texas Ave, Webster, Minn. Waste milk is pasteur-ized for calves, which greatly improved calf health. They also have a dairy beef enterprise and they nish all of their bull calves. Lunch will be provided. Features: New automatic DeLaval calf feeding system with 2 feeding stations that have been used since mid-January 2012. Ret-ro t into existing building with a new ventilation system. New heifer facility built in 2012 for animals 6 mo to 2 yr of age. They milk 110 cows with 22,700 RHA and SCC of 88,000. This position is responsible for working with media sources and within CROPP to message this work. This role also works with the cooperative to promote and source sustainable alternative fueling sources for farmers as well as our fl eet. Masters degree or at least two years experience with Bachelors degree in agricultural sciences, biology, sustainability or similar fi eld. Considerable, relevant experience will be considered in lieu of degree. Coursework in environmental science, management, accounting or similar fi elds. Working knowledge of agriculture and organic farming systems, including dairy, required. Working knowledge of renewable energy and energy effi ciency measures required.
