PADRE’S PONDERINGS MASS AT ST. MICHAEL CEMETERY CHAPEL – Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the Mass offered at St. Michael Cemetery Chapel last Tuesday. Next month we will be celebrating Mass at St. Michael’s on Tuesday, July 31. GACC ANNUAL ALUMNI APPEAL – As of June 26, the 2018 Alumni Appeal has reached $20,267! Thank you to all of the alumni who have already responded! Through your generosity we will be able to accomplish our first priority this year which is to carpet and replace carpet in several classrooms in both the grade school and the high school. Last week I listed a number of other projects that might benefit from your generosity and this week I realized that we also need to purchase a new display for our Senior Class composites which is located in the Activity Center. Our current display is full and we have several classes waiting to be displayed! It only seems fitting that a gift from the alumni would help us “show off” our second greatest asset! (I would like to say that you are our greatest asset, but I’m going to have to go with our faith as #1! J) We are so blessed to have such faithful and dedicated alumni who take such pride in their alma mater! ST. MARY’S SPRING COLLECTION –Thank you for your continued generosity and support of the Spring Collection. Our current total is now $8617.50! Thank you to everyone who has so generously responded to the Spring Collection. While we have surpassed our original goal, we are asking that all registered members/families participate in this Spring Collection with a $10 donation for individuals or a $20 donation for a family. The Spring Collection is used for operational expenses of St. Mary’s Parish and is replacing a source of income that is no longer available. Thanks again for your faithful support! SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING – A Safe Environment training session will be offered here in West Point on Monday, July 9, at 6:30 PM. This training is required for any volunteer or employee of the Archdiocese who works with our children and young adults in ANY capacity. Details regarding the training session may be found on page 3 of this week’s bulletin. If you have any questions about whether or not you need this training, please feel free to call the office. FIFTH SUNDAY LIVING ROSARY – Our next Fifth Sunday Living Rosary will be held on Sunday, July 29th at 2 PM at St. Boniface. This opportunity of prayer is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and all are welcome to join as we pray the rosary in the context of Eucharistic Adoration. The prayer service last approximately 30 minutes. ANNUAL PARISH MISSION CO-OP – This year our annual Mission Co-Op is scheduled for July 28/29. Fr. Ssonko John Baptist from the Lugazi Diocese in Uganda will be our guest. Details regarding the Mission Co-Op may be found in the bulletin on page 5. EMHC’s AND LECTORS NEEDED – All of our parishes are again inviting parishioners to consider the possibility of sharing their time and talent in the public liturgical ministries of Lector and Extra-Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion. Every year the Archdiocese offers an afternoon training session for these vital ministries and then invites candidates to the Mandation Mass with Archbishop Lucas as a public confirmation of their service. If you have any questions or are interested in the possibility please contact the parish office for details. LITURGICAL MINISTERS – I appreciate that the hectic nature of summer often leaves many of us feeling “unbalanced” and/or “off schedule” compared to the more routine schedule that often accompanies the school year. So here is my annual appeal to all liturgical ministers to re-check your liturgical ministry assignments at your parish throughout the summer months. I realize that there will be times when you are unable to fulfill your ministerial duties and cannot find a replacement, but when that happens would you please call the office and let us know. Thank you for your service and your consideration. ST. MARY’s FUNERAL DINNER … WOULD IT HELP IF WE CHANGED THE TITLE AND/OR DESCRIPTION? – Director? Coordinator? Facilitator? Committee? Council? The ministry can be titled in a variety of ways and need not be restricted to one individual. Would it help to know that you would NOT be responsible for doing the cooking? This does not necessarily need to be a strictly volunteer position either. The primary responsibility is making sure that we continue to offer support and hospitality to families who are mourning the loss of a loved one by providing a welcoming meal and environment. If you would be willing to consider this ministerial opportunity please contact Theresa or the parish office for details.

Missionary Fr. Ssonko John
Baptist here July 28-29 The mission coop is about requesting for help to put up a grade school in one of the areas of Lugazi Diocese called Busaabala with six mission churches, but with no Catholic Grade School. Some people helped us to put up a Nursery School but we have no grade school where these kids can continue with their educa-tion. We also wish to have a teachers’ quar-ters or houses. The area is so much affected by illiteracy that we cannot get teachers within that area, so we are to get them from other areas. The people wish to have a grade school and other facilities but they are really poor and struggling to make end meet. Any assistance extended to us will be highly appreciated. Thank you.
